If you change the water every vc 3 days at least they won't have any smell. Make sure you wash the container too

Won't alge grow in the transparent container

It does happen. Using transparent ones but in darker colors seems to solve it. I bought brown ones online and reused my glass medicine/ supplements bottles.
Dark colors around the roots also seem to promote root growth as they naturally grow in dark environments. The cuttings I propagate in the brown supplement bottles grew roots faster than those in clear glass ones despite being from the same plant.
