Hi Gary. The tunisian knit stitch or the afghan stitch are basic stitches. Find a you tube video. Trust me, if you can crochet and knit all those gorgeous sweaters, jumpers and vests you can do tunisian crochet. And, if I can learn to do it anyone can!!! Good luck! Can't wait to see what you make! Hugs to you and Chad! 💙
Great to see the Tunisian hooks, I ordered those this week and I am waiting on them arriving. I love Tunisian crochet and can do one stitch, simple stitch, so far.
Hi there! I learned to do Tunisian crochet in lockdown by watching Tony’s channel TLYarn craft. I did the same as you have done, I bought some relatively cheap bamboo hooks like yours and went for it! Once I had several projects under my belt in simple stitch I learned more advanced ones and then thought about buying a more decent set but the bamboo ones are still just the ticket. Tunisian crochet makes some beautiful blankets and ponchos! I really hope you take to it!
I love Tunisian crochet. Just start with the simple stitch . I started with facecloths and soft Temu yarn. The small project allows you to practice and once you are done that you will be ready to try another stitch. Have fun!
I have seen those matching yarns, but from years ago (to sew your project). Glad someone is still doing it. Nice choices of yarns there. Sometimes you can see what they're made of if you click on the photos of the labels. Sometimes they don't show them.
Thanks so much Barbara for directing me to TL yarn crafts channel for Tunisian tutorials. You are learning to do it as well - we can give each other tips along the way!
Those socks are great. I make socks, as far as I can tell they are all just socks, have no gender or special shaping, you love them so they are your socks. I hike and I often buy "men's" walking shoes or boots, they are often cheaper for nearly the same thing. So, they aren't men's shoes, they are my shoes because I brought them and I wear them.
Hi Gary! I’m in Birmingham, AL currently for my husband to undergo a minor surgery. I was so anxious until I saw your video pop up. Your voice is so calming. Hello Ruthie - My thoughts are with you and your husband. Wishing him a speedy recovery after surgery. I can't wait to hear how you like Tunisian! I've been loving it since a coworker taught me in 2000, started with long strips for a blanket. Prepare for the curl lolol It makes a wonderful blanket fabric in regular tunisian and tunisian knit stitch

Once again I've been eyeing the first yarn you ordered. That yarn is also sold by Herrschners I believe under the name soho playful but they don't have as many colors as Temu. I've also wanted to order the tunisian hooks, both the bamboo and the long metal ones. I received a set of knitters pride dreamz hooks for Christmas that I have been using through my tunisian journey. Suggestions: 1) Learn the simple stitch first cause it is always going to be your starting row no matter which stitch you use and as its name says its the easiest. 2) Tension is key! The nature of the fabric tends to curl on its own and the tighter you are the worse it gets but you also don't want to be too loose or it kinda turns into a mess. 3) Goes with 2 and is hook size. You will always want to go up a full to 1 1/2 hook size from the recommended size for the yarn. You'll understand as you learn and get a feel for it. Basically tension and hook size are key. It really makes a nice dense fabric and some of the stitches are beautiful. The tunisian full stitch is also easy and looks very nice. I am a bit newer to it but found its pretty easy since I am an avid crocheter. I found most of the hooks out there are inline and pointy. I now understand why but it doesnt help if you have splitty yarn. The biggest game changer for me was finding the swivel cords if you're making a larger project. Knitters Pride has a line and they're interchangable with all their hooks and needles. Sorry so long winded, just trying to be helpful! 😊 Also check out Toni at TLYarns she has a you tube channel. Jess at Make and Do Crew also has tutorials on her page not sure if shes on you tube. Hugs for now! 🤗 Edit: Another you tube channel to check out is Exquisite Crochet UK
Hello Nancy - this message is fantastic! (Not long winded at all as it covered all the things that will help be along the way). I am so impressed with these informative tips. There's been so many in here with similar suggestions - hook sizes go up, tension is key and where to go to learn the simple stitch. I appreciate all your help. PS. After reading the comments in here - the Fairland yarn which was the one you liked not only looks like the SoHo Playful, but it's a proper branded label that other websites carry (and apparently it's a better value from Temu).
I think I'm getting used to temu, but.....I've already gotten 2 credits for orders being "late"!!! Ya think I'd get them sooner since I could get to the port of LA in about 5-6 hours! 🤷 I think you're the first person I've seen that actually got a nice looking yarn.
Hello Patti - After reading the comments in here - I did look up the Fairyland Yarn and it was a label that was being sold in other online yarn stores. My favourite for this order was definitely the Swan Lake yarn.
I love the cakes, can’t wait to see what you make w/them. Never tried Temu and can’t give you any ideas on Tunisian work. I did an extremely small amount back in the 1980’s when it was referred to as the afghan stitch but nothing since. All the best on trying it. Your best teacher would be Toni from TLYCRAFT.

Entrelac tunisian crochet is a great way to try tunisian with a regular hook. There is a Landscapes shawl out there from Martin Up North that is a beautiful tunisian crochet project I want to start next! I love tunisian crochet!

I have a set of wooden Tunisian hooks that are long but without the extension of the cord. My suggestion is to start with the Simple stitch. It is something that gives you a great introduction to Tunsian crochet. I might also suggest Toni at TLYarn Crafts. She has several TH-cam tutorials on starting tunsian crochet
Hello Becki - Thank you so much for the tip on the Simple Stitch and Toni's channel - you know it's sent me off on a long tangent this morning looking at tutorials and I'm really impressed with how the fabric looks on the videos.
Like the look of the yarn. You'll have to let us know how you like the yarn once you get a chance to use it. I'm curious about that. Thanks for sharing Gary.
Absolutely Julieann - I'm just wrapping up a few items on the go right now. I'm hoping to Tunisian Crochet this summer and I may try out the yarn from this order (2 birds with 1 stone ....as they say).
Hi Gary, beautiful yarns, they're so colorful. I would start with the tunisian simple stitch but because the fabric has a tendency to curl up try using a bigger hook size than the label indicates. If it says use a 6mm I would use a 7mm. Take care and have fun learning tunisian crochet.
Hi Kathleen - that's a good tip to be aware of in Tunisian crochet. There was a great comment in the chats with another crafter who suggested for me to go up a size or two in crochet hook than the label suggests so the curling up is minimal.
Oooh - Are knit blockers those things put on the end of knitting needles to stop the work from slipping off? I need to look into getting some of those.
No those are needles stoppers blockers are for when you soak your item and lay it out to the size and pin it down with the blockers to achieve the correct shape
@@alicehenley1328 - Oh I see - I have some t-pins but I've seen the blockers in rows. I'm going to have to keep my eye out for those on my next order. Thank you for clarifying.
Hi Gary, I've been eagerly awaiting your video. I like your new yarns. I haven't tried Tunisian crochet. Your new socks look comfy. I also hope Pixel is still doing well with training. A small suggestion, take lots of pics when she's young before you know it, and she'll be grown up. I hope all is well with you and Chad.

Hello. I would suggest a basic Tunisian stitch to start. When I started I found I would get very tight stitches as I progressed to subsequent rows. So, just a caution there. Enjoy the process!
Hello Gay - that is a top tip for me to know upfront with Tunisian! Thank you. I know what you mean with tension changes - I have the some thing happening with knitting, but it gets looser as I progress in the piece... LOL!

I've ordered the Tunisian crochet hook, as I've got some patterns I'd like to try, but only have one hook and it's not the right size. Also ordered some different sizes of safety eyes as having a go at amagrumi( don't think I spelt that right, hey ho) and enjoying the process so far. Hope you have fun trying out your new yarns.❤ Yes I've brought yarn(silk/cashmere) from China before and it also came with cotton bobbin. Xxx
Yay - I'm glad to read that I'm not alone with getting an extra bobbin with my cashmere yarn. I'm thrilled that you're getting familiar with Tunisian crochet. I may have some questions as I start learning... LOL!
Hi Gary. Your shirt is really nice. I was thinking of getting the balls of yarn but I don't care for the way its spun. They sell for a few bucks less here in the USA. 😮 that Tunisian hook set is huge. I can't wait to see what you design. I'm A beginner with Tunisian.
Hi Danette - there are a few commenters that have said Fairyland Yarn and Herrschners SoHo playful are almost the same yarns. The chain spun constructed yarn isn't for everyone.
I live too close to Herrschners to do online ordering. I just stop on the way to or from somewhere. I am not a big online buying person. I like to see what I am ordering as well as receive it in a timely manner. That is why I do not order from Hobbii, and i loved their yarn. I love the coverlet on the daybed behind you. What pattern is it?
Interesting Tunisian hooks I got one and it's actually just a long crochet hook but doesn't have the cord like yours does I haven't used it yet though be interesting to see how that works up
Oh - I've seen what you are mentioning before, actually I was gifted one in a set of retro knitting needles. It's metal - and I'll have to give that a go too.
Hi Gary. This is my first time watching your vlog. I bought the swan yarn as well to pair with another. I'm curious to know if any of your viewers knows anything about the spool/yarn combo. I'm dieing to know how it's used. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.
Hello Tina - my curiosity is also peaked on the extra bobbin of yarn. So far reading the comments the suggestion is that they are meant to be worked up together.
Hi Beverly, I am always surprised at how quickly some of the product comes and goes on the site. Making it curious as to what might be on there from week to week.
Hello Pamela! Good to read your message. Thanks for stopping by. I hope you've been having fun - saw you on Crochet/Knit in public day over at Zee's channel. Looks like everyone had a great day!
FINALLY ! I've been hoping someone would review that swan lake yarn. I have 2 hanks each of the 2 lightest colors on order. I'm thinking I would hold it with another yarn since it's so thin. How are you going to use yours? Mine is on its way so I should have it next week I hope. Thank you for the great review. That fairyland yarn is sure pricey for the small amount you get but it is pretty.
Hello LotSopet - thank you for letting me know you'll be trying out the Swan Lake yarn. That was my favourite of the order. I'm like you with wanting to hold it with another yarn. I'm thinking of either two things - marling it with another solid/or/self striping fingering yarn - or marling it with a mohair.
@@urbanyarn I'm going to wait til I see mine before I order more colors. In the US its just over $5 so very affordable. I can hardly wait! I hope you'll do a video about it once you work with it. I'd love your opinion.
hiya gary! fab shirt. been thinking of ordering from temu. did you do the bed cover behind you? very nice haul. it will be interesting to see the projects made. you and chad have a great weekend! xoxo
Good to know - I'm wondering if there's a way to test that. I know the Swan Lake yarn is sold on other websites as well and it's more expensive than what Temu is selling it for. The label looks exactly the same. The other Cashmere (Good Cashmere) I've not seen anywhere else on the web.
I am always afraid of giving my information online to Companies based in China. I heard that temu and tic toc. I don't just jump onto sales sights from foreign countries. Just me.
I agree with you. I was always told if it seems too good to be true it is. I’ve seen people buy pet bowls etc. We all know China doesn’t use safe products. Lead in paint items etc. I’ll pass on Temu. I understand those with TH-cam channels are getting freebies and that’s fine
@@mh.1568 I understand that issue but you need to look at most products in stores.China,as challenging as it may be,produces most goods we buy inc dinnerwear
That's a fair conviction to standby - I would hate to support any organization that was cruel to animals, especially ones like you see in the food industry with live-stock. However, when it comes to woolen fibers (sheep or other sheared animals) - China probably imports that material raw from other parts of the world.
Thanks so much leopardontheprowl - I appreciate your comment and value your support just by watching. There's much more content ahead to look forward to.

Hi Alice - thanks so much for the supportive comment.
Thanks for the info. May try this company. Waving from across the straits WFATS
Hi Toni - I'm so jealous that you live so close to Herrschners. They have that incredible sale on right now - Arghhh!
Huh! That makes me wonder if the yarn isn't as strong as others and needs extra strength with the thread.
Hey, Gary! I have not gotten anything from Temu yet. It looks very tempting.
Hi Beverly, I am always surprised at how quickly some of the product comes and goes on the site. Making it curious as to what might be on there from week to week.
Hey Gary
Hello Pamela! Good to read your message. Thanks for stopping by.
I hope you've been having fun - saw you on Crochet/Knit in public day over at Zee's channel. Looks like everyone had a great day!
TL Yarn Craft on TH-cam does Tunisian work, that's how I learn. She is very good.
Yay! Thank you so much. Toni rates highly for Tunisian Crochet!
I have not ordered anything from Temu. Please follow up after using and washing the yarn. I am leary of ordering from China.
I'd love your opinion.
hiya gary! fab shirt. been thinking of ordering from temu. did you do the bed cover behind you? very nice haul. it will be interesting to see the projects made. you and chad have a great weekend! xoxo
Hello Romaynecarlin - Thank you for the compliment on the shirt and for noticing the bed cover. I did crochet that one - completed a year ago.
Hi
Hello!
I would start with the Tunisian Simple Stitich. I can do Tunisian crochet, but I prefer not to. Just wasn't my thing
Thanks Laura for the tip on where to go first in my new journey.
How many yards is that?
I'm not sure which yarn.
I have great experiences from Temu although, if your ordering mink or cashmere, it’s not the real stuff. Sometimes, it’s too good to be true
Good to know - I'm wondering if there's a way to test that. I know the Swan Lake yarn is sold on other websites as well and it's more expensive than what Temu is selling it for. The label looks exactly the same. The other Cashmere (Good Cashmere) I've not seen anywhere else on the web.
@@urbanyarn so I know people who speak the language on the balls from china and they said it was not real
I am always afraid of giving my information online to Companies based in China. I heard that temu and tic toc. I don't just jump onto sales sights from foreign countries. Just me.
I agree with you. Also, I heard they use child slave labor.
I have an online account with just enough for online purchases
I agree with you. I was always told if it seems too good to be true it is. I’ve seen people buy pet bowls etc. We all know China doesn’t use safe products. Lead in paint items etc. I’ll pass on Temu. I understand those with TH-cam channels are getting freebies and that’s fine
@@mh.1568 I understand that issue but you need to look at most products in stores.China,as challenging as it may be,produces most goods we buy inc dinnerwear
Hi Valoackerman - I agree with this type of payment account set-up too.
I wold not by yarn from China, the animal husbandry is not the best there.
That's a fair conviction to standby - I would hate to support any organization that was cruel to animals, especially ones like you see in the food industry with live-stock. However, when it comes to woolen fibers (sheep or other sheared animals) - China probably imports that material raw from other parts of the world.
I'm watching this to support you. But I won't ever be buying from Temu. But get those sponsorships, anything to help the channel.
Thanks so much leopardontheprowl - I appreciate your comment and value your support just by watching. There's much more content ahead to look forward to.
Sorry I truly object to Temu. Thanks anyway, but I am not interested in these type of video hence I part.
Understandable.
Why watch or say anything? Clearly stated in title!
