I don't want to give an opinion that changes people's mind but I tried a bunch of Collings and Santa Cruz in a shop and these ones sounded and played better for me. To me they looked and sounded more "handmade" than the Collings which I felt them more "generic" and not better than some Martins. Said that, I ended buying an inexpensive laminated back and sides model with a solid Engelmann spruce top that rings and plays like a bell and is on pair with some good examples mentioned before. I had luck because it was the serial Nº1 and it was brought to a shop during an exhibition and posterior selling so I probably it was the best sounding example of that model. It has a smaller scale and the shape similar to a Taylor GS Mini. I really love it and it costed me less than 600 with a nice pickup included. Years ago I thought that only a very expensive guitar is the best one you can buy but after years playing now I look for the guitar itself rather than which logo and price tag has on it. Just to mention, the guitar that sounded and played better for my ears in that shop it was a Lowden but it was very expensive. I hope my experience helps anyone out there.
one of my pipe dreams right now is to record some classical pieces from my old college repertoire on a phenomenal steel string guitar, much like you’ve done here. very lovely sound.
Wow, really dry tone for Brazilian, and not in a bad way! Sounds really tidy and focused while retaining subtle but lovely overtones.
