I can't thank you enough for driving-by 16 St Ives Way at the end. I showed my 83-yr old Father ur vid & he has mild cognitive impairment (mild Dementia) and he couldn't recognise the house and (the garage he built) at first. Then I explained to him and it sunk in and he told me they moved into that house in 1974 after watching it being built. I was born in 1978 and lived with my parents and Brother until 1985 when we moved down to east London due to Liverpool docks closing down and my Father being offered work in London.
We were the Aung Htut family, my late Mother was Angela, my Father Albert and my Brother called Mark & I am Melanie. THANK YOU so much Jeff.

Hi, I'm very pleased you liked the video and also that your Dad got to see his house again. Your comment is very much appreciated, thank you.

Marvellous video brings back so many memories. You even showed our old house on Mackets Lane and I could see the privet hedge that my Father planted in 1954. I had friends in Hale and Halewood and like you, used to bike around the area. Happy childhood memories. I was also impressed by your slim appearance, you seem to be on a similar journey to me or vice versa. Thanks for all your work, much appreciated.

I was worried it was a bit long, 54 minutes or so. I'll do a few shorter ones next. I actually still ride a bike almost every day for an hour or so, must be that that's keeping me slim in my old age 😅
If I'd have known you used to be on Mackets Lane I'd have given the hedge a shout out too.
      Take care, thanks for watching.

Omg this is fab! I grew up in Blackburn Drive, off Higher Road. I remember the Hunts Cross chippy, launderette and Lavels down Mackets Lane. Fab video. Thanks so much!

Hi Jeff, I really enjoy your videos of Liverpool. I lived in Halewood from the early 60’s until about 1972. We lived in the south part, just of Leathers Lane and backed onto Old Hutt Lane. I went to school at St Andrews, which is now no longer there. This was located just off Mackets Lane. I have good memories of Halewood. As you mention in your video on Halewood, the population increased dramatically during the 60’s. I remember reading that in the 60’s, Halewood had the greatest concentration of children of school years per square mile in the whole of Europe! This was due to communities in the inner city being cleared and moved out to Speke and later to Halewood. The communities were mainly of Irish/Catholic heritage and had very large families. In my family for example there were 8 children. In the small avenue we lived in Halewood, there wasn’t a family with less than 5 or 6 children. 6 to 11 children was fairly common. Perhaps you can therefore imagine on the Halewood estates during school holidays it was absolute bedlam for the parents. I think this is why for me those years from 1963 to 1972 were very good as I had so many friends and was in numerous street football teams, fishing clubs or similar. Life was never dull!
I know many of the places around Halewood, Hunts Cross and Woolton village that you show in your videos and it is a real delight to be ‘driven’ through them again. Almost like an armchair, chauffeured ride around the suburbs.
After leaving school at St Andrews, I worked with my father in a factory making high quality furniture based in Speke. It’s sad that that part of Speke which had a thriving manufacturing industry has almost completely gone. So keep up the good work and I’ll watch more. Best wishes, Kevin

Thank you very much Kevin for the kind comments.
My Mums brother and his family were shipped out to Speke in the early 60's. They had 10 kids, so I know what you mean about large families.
Must have been a very crowded house.

My dad was from Halewood and was from a family of 11 so i get what your saying when it comes to big families. I always like to go and visit my and uncles and aunties up there. I do sometimes wish I was brought up like my dad because of the communities. And also how much more life it seemed to have growing up there compared to now no matter how tough it were as me dad described. He got moved around to quite a few schools as some shut down but there is a strong feeling of togerthness when he talks about it. Just thought id share that

The farm in Finch Lane was purchased off Knowsley Borough Council to build the training ground, The tenant farmer was Ted Glen, he was from North Lancashire way. He knew the creator of Postman Pat. The farmers name in Postman Pat was no other that Ted Glen! I can just remember Old Hutte Lane before Fords. It was lovely, there was a stream which was full of trout down there.

Brilliant story 👏 There was a farm there too behind Higher Lane where the council estate was built. Lunts Farm was pretty big. Often wondered if Lunts Heath Road in Ditton had something to do with him.

@@Jeff1photo I used to work with someone called Ken Lunt, he lived in one of the semi detached houses on Lower Rd, before the railway arches. He used to tell us that his family owned most of Halewood in days gone by. So it ties in with what you are saying Jeff.

Halewood Leisure Centre was built many years after Bridgefield Forum closed. The Forum was the far side of town, behind St Nicholas Church.

I got that wrong, someone else said the same. I used to go to Bridgefield Forum with a cousin too back in the 70's / 80's.

I'm pleased you like the video, there's a lot of nice places and there's still plenty of greenery. Sad that the Horses Rest has gone though.

Both my Mum and Dad are buried in the church yard in Halewood. After Kingsthorne I went to the hell hole that was Halewood Grange.

Bridgefield forum was not on the site of Baileys Lane sports centre. Bridgefield forum was on Greensbridge Lane. And closed in 1982 , the year school there .

Halewood is outside Liverpool, in the borough of Knowsley!.

1974 I think when boundaries were changed. Halewood pubs were last orders at 11pm while Woolton was 10.30.
