      @@ankita_156 You guys should learn how to deal with it though. I've learned to be confident in my skin socially. I'm almost a 75% social butterfly. I've learned to give to people, trained with their perspective. having used comedy for my social currency for awhile and then honing in on my empathetic/social skills I've come to realize the latter is much better in terms of how people value you in a social way.

    I just completed week 4 of a 13-week bootcamp and she isn’t kidding when she says “get ready to be uncomfortable.” Bootcamps challenge you in SO many ways and i think psychological challenges are rarely spoken about but; if you’ve ever dealt with issues around “not enoughness” , a bootcamp WILL force you to face that part of you. I had a tremendously hard time for the first 3 weeks because the old narrative from my school days of “not being good enough at logical stuff” surfaced EXTRA hard. I’m surprised how much I’ve retained in the last 4-weeks, but in comparison to my cohort of 7, I’m definitely not at the front of the pack and that can mess with you. Another thing ive noticed is that a bootcamp requires A LOT of time and dedication, BUT again with the psychological factor; if you just CANT eat, breathe and sleep coding...its ok. You cant do your best work if you’re sacrificing the rest of your life to such an extent that you start becoming depressed, anxious, etc. Don’t take a bootcamp lightly because the time really does fly by, but also allow yourself a weekend if that will help “recharge” you to better tackle the week to come.

      Yeah, u definitely can get tired when learning challenging things. I have to go slowly and absorb and rest between pages of a book. I am not doing Bootcamp before I self-teach it to myself first. Then I'd just learn it better second time around. I have a two-year CS degree and some used to joke I must like pain. For some reason, I am drawn to code even though I am not at all of the right kind of mind to master it. I just like coding. There is something about it.

      yoherson de leon Self-studying is a must before committing to a bootcamp. 1) If you find you’re not liking it, you’ll save yourself a lot of time/money. 2) You likely will not be able to keep up with the curriculum unless you bust your butt and work twice as hard as the average student.

    This video was really great and refreshing. Not only did you explain things really well but you were positive instead of tearing the whole idea of going to a boot camp right down. Many videos I see say that boot camps are a scam or that you don’t really get much out of them. In reality, you’re only going to get out what you put in and I think you relayed that pretty well. For example, there is a 5-week BrainStation python course that's $2,500 and the classes are only 3 hours. You'd have to put in some time outside of the program of course, but you can start off with programs like those.

      Dude there are some really good ones out there(meaning they have a high job placement after graduation rate) however, I think this statistic is relative to the amount of demand in your area. If there are many tech jobs in your area, it should be easy to get interviews on your own. If there aren't any jobs in the area then you might wanna consider moving to a large city. If you want the skills of a bootcamp without having to pay, just download their curriculum from their website and use it as a learning path.

    Hi! I have been very interested in starting a coding bootcamp, especially since I have been furloughed from my previous job. I have started learning basic html, css and javascript online the past couple months and I am definitely wanting to take the jump into the coding world and set myself up with a stable future!
    My only problem is trying to find a way to pay for rent, groceries and life expenses while attending a full time bootcamp? Did you take out loans, can you get financial aid? Did you work part time and that took care of expenses? Please help!

      Hey Maddie. I completed Thinkfuls Full Stack Software Engineering Immersion course and they had a "living stipend" option in the Income Share Agreement (ISA) I signed. Although I am now repaying it, it was definitely worth it. It is not much to live on these days, at $1500 a month for 6 months, but it certainly helped. I am paying 10% of my income for the next 3 years to them, in return. The repayment starts when you get a job earning $40k per year or greater. So, I will be repaying them somewhere between $14k - $16k back total, but about half of that was given to me in cold hard cash, when it was absolutely crucial to tearing down a barrier to my learning process. Very grateful for it and I had a good experience with Thinkful.

    I went initially for computer science degree and later decided to go back to go for pre-med to become MD. I will say in my opinion the software, business, finance, and, technology field are very predatory fields dominated by bad evil people that makes it impossible to thrive and grow. They constantly will lie, cheat, and, steal all your hard work and take most of the profits and credit for your hard work. My advise is to be self employed or create your own start up... Or you will be abused by management financially, mentally, and, physically.

      Hey sorry for the bad experience you had. I can totally relate to the hurt you went through. As you can be in companies were you are not valued. However I must say that it's not good to generalize as there are great companies out there looking for people who have the skills to do the job and are even willing to pay good salaries. Do not get me wrong. It's not easy to find but they are out there.

      I'm glad you brought this issue up. It's about how money and greed operate in an industry. Lots of people here are flocking to coding to get rich quick and get ahead of the next person. Tends to bring out the worst in humans. Usually what's hot brings out the status junkies. That said, companies themselves will have their own cultures and they can't all be focussed on short term wins.

    Great info. I've been taking basic courses on udemy and have officially caught the coding bug. I've been looking into bootcamps as well. But what have you noticed in the hiring process about having a degree? How much do hiring managers actually care about that?

    • @junehanabi1756
      @junehanabi1756 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Degrees are straight BS, college education for programming is straight BS. If an employer isn't honest about that with you then their lying. Even Blizzard, Google and many other big names as well as small business will tell you that. the problem is every freaking person in the world and their pet dog want to be a programmer. They want to study for a week and then line up and get a job. For every programming job out there there's a line a mile long or further. Networking is the key to getting in, because otherwise you're probably never going to get in. A college degree is something people use try try and get noticed ahead of the line but it didn't take long before everyone went out and also got a degree so degrees are mostly useless now even in that regard. I'd say the only way to get in is with Networking.
      The saddest part though is most people get into programming only for the money. They don't give a crap about programming. They're just using it as another 9-5 job that pays really well. You can spot these people a mile away too because they reek of no passion at all for the job, you can easily spot they're their just for the money. This is one reason it's so hard to get into programming because the 100 people in front of you don't care about programming at all and you do so how do you get recognized, you can't. That's the sad part, there's no way for you to stand out short of an epic project from the others who don't care about programming. I keep going back to networking, you have to have somebody in the company or who knows high-ups in the company to speak on your behalf to get you in the door because you're likely never going to get in standing at the front door and that's the sad reality programming has come to.

    all the bootcamp schools are ridiculously expensive. They are taking advantage of people who are not programmers and just because you went to a boot camp does not give you a job. This even applies to the public colleges because their prices are not regulated by the state. Employers are mostly looking for computer science degrees because they are a better bet. As an employer, I would not hire a boot camp grad unless they had either tons of experience or a degree in computer science.

    I’m nowhere near new at being a developer, but I’m curious how it is these days for noobs.
    There’s so much more available these days there’s no way you can be “experienced” before the end of a bootcamp: developing software has far more than just writing code to deal with.

    • @ethanhalf
      @ethanhalf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But if you were a hiring manager would you accept a new prospect that is a bootcamp grad?

    • @strictnonconformist7369
      @strictnonconformist7369 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ethan Halfhide I myself, when it comes to being a developer, am almost entirely self-taught.
      My experience is it takes longer than any bootcamp to become truly competent as a developer, and certainly to be a software engineer. These things take time to internalize. I’ve never gone to a bootcamp, those are long and intense enough they didn’t exist until the relatively recent past few years.
      I’d not rule in or rule out someone from a bootcamp: a combination of their work outside of that bootcamp combined with how they interview would be how I’d choose. Writing code is actually a small part of the whole process; a prime thing is being able to communicate via reading, writing and speaking about the problem and the solution, and correctly identifying the problem(s) that need to be solved, and usually also includes working with others effectively.

    • @ethanhalf
      @ethanhalf 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Strict NonConformist that’s awesome, how many years did it take you? And was it tough getting a job being that you are self taught? I have a tremendous amount of respect for that btw

    • @strictnonconformist7369
      @strictnonconformist7369 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ethan Halfhide It’s really hard to quantify that, as I first got introduced to computers at elementary around the age of 10 by the librarian asking if I’d like to change the data statements for the spelling test program around 1980 on a TRS-80.
      The most intense “training” I got was in 1986 for Apple UCSD Pascal in a 2 week intense summer program, but I’d already been messing with machine language by then. I also did a BASIC programming class in high school after that, again, not as advanced as I was already doing by then.
      In 11th/12th grade I spent half my school day in a robotics/automation class in my county, the first year of it, and did machine language on a 6808 Heathkit.
      Important to remember that until I was an adult, up-to-date books for hardware/software tools I had available to work with were not readily available, and were expensive, definitely compared to now: my parents got me a book covering PDP-11 BASIC for Christmas, because that’s what they could find.
      The first web browser didn’t exist until 1991, when I was in my last year at ITT Tech (Electronics Engineering Technology specializing in Automated Manufacturing Technology) where only quite basic programming was covered in C and Pascal, CNC, covering matrix transformations for translations/rotations. You’d never get a job with the amount of coding taught there, it had no meaningful amount of theory, and you were more or less fed the simple algorithm. I went way outside the box for the matrix transform program, and ended up also doing crude 3d graphics programming with animation on the 10 Mhz 8088 MS-DOS clones we had, though that didn’t work out nearly as well as hoped, and was more useful as a “ouch, that hurt” experience than accomplishing the intended goal. That was definitely a stretch goal for me at that time.
