About the python story: That's a Burmese python, which are invasive in Florida. They ARE going to kill it. I'm a snake lover, but I see the necessity.

I was about to mention the same thing. They even have rewards for hunting them because of the damage they do to the local fauna. It isn't the snakes fault they were introduced here but I understand why it needs to be done. So those guys were actually performing a pretty big service to the local ecosystem.

I completely love this word and use it all the time. The sentence "du hast ein backpfeifengesicht" just rolls of the tongue so nicely. It's one of my favorite German insults right up there with schweinhund (literally "pig-dog").

Florida Man here... the pythons are invasive and the climate here in South FL is very hospitable, so they're breeding in the wild. It's become quite a problem & every now & again a giant one will be found or one will terrorize a neighborhood by consuming small dogs, etc. So, YES, they were probably going to kill it.

3:53 Surprisingly enough, you can actually own a fighter jet. Under FAA they classify as Experimental type, you just have to de-militarize them. A lot of people don't because of the sheer cost to fly and maintain them. There are several supersonic fighters in civilian ownership, many flown in airshows. that "one dude" is a civilian contractor, he owns 46 F/A-18 and they're leased to fly adversary roles, playing the enemy in military exercises. Florida Man in question is actually Florida Company, JetLease. They have a couple retired Jordanian F-16C. You can actually buy them, however they are marketed more for Contractors.

So when it says "Villager" they're probably talking about The Villages, a HUGE retirement community that is legendary for being full of swingers, STDs, and generally wild. Until around 9 or 10pm when everything closes. There are a lot of golf carts driven there instead of cars which is probably why DUI lady managed to rack up so many. Public defender guy's picture was also taken at The Villages.
Catching the python is impressive. They kill them. They are invasive and cause lots of damage. A snake that big is probably a breeding female that can produce tons of babies. It's a good catch

The Python story actually makes sense, as they're an invasive species so the state has been offering bounties on them. They're a constrictor, & not venomous, so if you can manage to catch them from behind, they're relatively easy to dispatch. Apparently they got into the wild after people who had gotten them as "exotic pets" decided they were too much trouble & just let them into the wild, where they proceeded to make endangered species MORE endangered. The "In Training" probably meant they were going along with more seasoned hunters.
The main incident that caused them to be such a problem was a hurricane destroying a Burmese python breeding facility. Though there definitely are irresponsible owners who release their pets instead of doing everything they can to find a new owner.
There really aren't enough illegal releases to make the Python a self-replicating problem. It was hurricane Andrew--it destroyed a breeding facility & released 100's of snakes all at once, many already pregnant. Pythons can have a 100 eggs just in one clutch. Now *THAT* is a problem.

Fighter jet enthusiast here. A lot of people own fighter jets here in the states including some modern ones like Harriers Hornets and stuff from all over the eastern bloc. The F-16s are getting sold out of a company in central Florida for about 8 mil per jet and they’re all older blocks

Yes! Exactly! In most states, the media have to at least file some paperwork to get access to these records, but Florida law is very clear that it's all public record and publically available, so the weird-news hunters rely very heavily on this easy source.

FYI: There are unfortunately a lot of folks who drive cars without a license, and thus with out insurance as you cannot proper register a car and thus can't get insurance on said car with out a valid driver's license.

3:45 - Define 'fighter jet'. Because there's *lots* of older warbirds registered and flying (you may have heard about the MiG-23 that went down at an airshow a few weeks ago for instance). MODERN jets are hard to come by because they're, y'know, still in service instead of retired and on the market.
To answer the other part of the question - when they go out of service they're "de-milled" - classified instruments removed and the armament wiring pulled, etc. At that point they're like any other civilian aircraft when it comes to ownership, but there are pretty strict restrictions on *how* they're flown (no carrying paying passengers like an airline, etc.).

There’s actually quite a few companies that sell privately owned jets in the US, mostly F-16s but they require demilitarisation and the pilot needs to be licensed and experienced with jets or there’s legal problems
