Hi Gerry .... This car has been sold to a person in England who will be restoring it. No one was able to put an exact date on the car as it is an Australian assembled car. Vin number is 206E 12002 and same as the engine number. There are other numbers stamped into the front panel. 206E 73 then below that 632 and below that ^ 015 and below that what appears to be 012. If you can work that out I would love to hear back from you. I also have another Flat Back.
Thanks Arnold ... I have updated the info about this 1956 model commonly called the Flat Back because of the rear panel. This model was made only between February to October and is extreamly rare. Cheers ... Dan.
Great find.....whats the date of manufacture, and color? I have to date the oldest 'Flatback' Convertible 18 May 1956 numbering no:40 of the production line, currently being fully and totally restored and ready hopefully end of summer 2013. Also have a friend restoring the oldest flatback Zephyr saloon in England manu March 56.
I almost forgot to say that the grill is hand built and comes apart. I rebuilt the original grill and used stainless steel rivets to secure the horizontal bars.
i enjoyed seeing a lovely honeycombe grille zephyr running ! i put a 'like' on this one 4 sure!

I own a Ford Zephyr MK2 1957 here in Havana. Of course 80% modified to keep on the road.
My Dad had one from 59 to 69 all white oh!!! the memories!!!
I liked the egg-crate grill on this model. Great car for the time.
I had a Mark II in the early 1970s. Great car, apart from some hidden rust and a sloppy gear change linkage. Terrific exhaust note.
