Darryl6636 GM killed Pontiac for several reasons. Not enough people bought them, they had to downsize their brand count and it came down to Buick or Pontiac getting the axe. Buick sold a ton overseas so Pontiac was killed.

If GM went under, then 10s of thousands of other people who worked for GMs suppliers would of lost their jobs and that would affected the other car makers and dozens of other industries. @brewcitybroker An old geezer in my 40's, LOL, your post went in all direction so i'll try to explain. In 1979 you could get the 400 4speed 220 hp,the 301 non turbo and the olds 403 185 hp. In 1980 and 81 is when they had the 301 turbo which were WS6 cars which were probably the best handling T/A at the time. In '81 you could get the chevy 305 with a 4 speed. If you want to drive a pathetic T/A drive a 1982 with a 305 auto.

Call me picky but imo the 80 was the best looking inside and out. I mean they got really pretty in 79 but the 80 SE's were astonishing looking. I love the 80 turbo phoenix decal but I don't really care for the 81 hollow non shaded bird. Coming from an 80 & 81 pace car owner. I'd love to get a tenth anniversary, swap on an 80 turbo hood, and use the 80 pace car hood decal. I've never seen it done and it would look epic.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the 70 to 73 is the best looking style of all Firebirds, and i believe a majority of all people would agree with me. Still the 79 to 81 T/A's are beautiful cars except that long and ugly front bumper. Not sure what the Pontiac designer was thinking about when he added this bumper.

The front end of the 79 to 81 was designed to look good from a distance where you see the whole front end at more of an eye level. It really is awesome. Standing next to the car and looking down at the front end it can be thought of as ugly. I like to think it's so ugly it's cool.

This is not a 301 turbo car. After doing a little research, I would guess this commercial was made in California. The only engine that was available for California that year was the Chevrolet 305. The hood has a shaker which the turbo didn't have. The "turbo" wheels were an option that you could order even on non turbo cars.
I recently bought a 1980 "turbo" but it must not have lasted long. It was replaced in the early 90s with a 454 big block chevy.

What are you talkin about, shaker hood. It clearly has the power-bulge hood, which came on the turbo car. And it is a turbo 301 car. Values on these "original" none butchered ones are increasing daily.

@@joequillun7790 Yep, 100% this is NOT a Shaker car, it has the Turbo hood with the bulge for that Garrett or Air Research turbsky that sat on top. I live 5 mins where that car was born well a 90% chance being Norwood assembly plant from 67-87 in more less Cincinnati Ohio. the Norwood assembly plant also sold all nomad bodies to arlington assembly plant from the firewall back completed bodies were done and put on a truck and sent to tx 55-59 belairs were in Norwood as well 60% where built here it's funny almost all the cars are worth anything that GM put together back in the day were built at the Norwood assembly plant here in Cincinnati Ohio and also we also build here big block novas with 40% of them were 396 427 from 68 to 72 until the Wildcat strike all big block orders cars were built in Norwood hurt G.M. willow run was building more or less the small block models. that is why the 72 Wildcat strike hurt GM really bad because not only could u not get the Camaros and Firebirds not being built Norwood was the only F body plant from 70-75 but all big block production in the Nova ceased because Norwood was on strike!! the last nova built there was Sept,10,1972 G.m. moved production back to willow run the home of the nova
