    One of the best in a long time...looping figure 8 and oval with simple scenery..easy to watch..

    Those terrain models look really textured and detailed and I could stare at them all day!

    A deceptively clever layout that caters well to interesting scenery. Just great. Thanks.

    Great layout. I really like seeing trains running continuously instead of focusing on yard work and switching. Really nice, hope you get years of enjoyment out of this set up.

    Awesome layout for such a small space....like the double outer track and inner figure 8 which addds depth to the layout rather than being flat oval...

    A very nice video and layout. I have plans to expand my own HO scale layout, though as I'll be modeling a 1940s-50s steam-era mountain railroad town, I don't think it will look quite as modern as yours.

    Cool! Colorful scenery and good track plan. That looks like a Bachmann GP50 hi-nosed unit. Maybe add a track that goes off the layout. You never know when you might want to expand it - and what you have looks too good to ditch. An, "out track," leaves the door open to future expansion.

    • @dollin9515
      @dollin9515  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately i dont have the tools nor the time to expand it for a few years. Im in college away from home so i can only work on the layout over longer breaks (also why i havent made any update videos on it). The layout base was a gift from a friend's in-law who didnt want it anymore. i got the track, wiring, base board, and molding but i did all the scenery and ballasting myself. Maybe i will expand it someday but as of now its going to have to stay small and easy to store. Thanks though.

      @Petemonster62 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dollin9515 - Tommy Thomason's " out track " idea may be similar to an interchange track where a connection to another railroad is simulated - you could add & remove cars for a train to pick up or drop off. British modelers have also referred to it as a "fiddle spur".

    This is a great looking layout! It's inspiring me to think about what I might be able to build over time. 3ft x 5 ft is a probably all I've got room for too. Congratulations on building this! Just curious... how long did it take you?

    • @dollin9515
      @dollin9515  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I actually got the base of the layout from a friend's in-law who didnt want it. The only things done on it was the molding, paint, side boards and wiring. The scenery was the only thing i really had to do but i got most of it done in one night and took an extra week to get it exactly the way i wanted it. Thanks but honestly most of the credit shouldnt go to me haha.
      I DID build an ho scale layout on my own when i was younger, it took me a year and a half to get that one to where this n scale layout is but i was also new to the hobby and used a lot of scraps and weird materials i would avoid if i had to do it all over again. That layout was also 4 by 8 with two disconnected layers.

  • @randyproby215
    @randyproby215 ปีที่แล้ว

    that is a very nice layout. there is a lot of action for such a small layout. I made the mistake of putting in too much scenery and not enough track on mine.

    • @dollin9515
      @dollin9515  ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally i like more scenery than track but im still glad i got this thing.
      I got this layout for free as a board with the track laid and the terrain shaped and painted.

    Can a steam locomotive clear the turns ? New to the hobby im inspired by this layout , wanna try it out with a Different scenic theme but I heard steam locomotives can derail off too much curve on the track

    • @dollin9515
      @dollin9515  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea steam engines have issues with that. Theres a lot of factors that go into it including wheel diameter, speed, curve tightness, but mainly the number of axels/wheels that done move. I suggest you learn the naming convention for steam locomotives if you havent already. A 4-6-2 has 4 wheels in the front that turn, 6 wheels in the middle for power that do not turn (3 on each side), and 2 in the back to turn. Its hard to tell which locomotives of certain brands and models will make certain turns but generally the fewer axels in the middle the tighter turn it can make.
      Good luck

    • @dollin9515
      @dollin9515  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No it isnt (and dont worry about that )
      The visual difference between dc and dcc is that in dc the controller controls the track speed while dcc controllers control individual train speed
