Liane Rogers he’s doing well with the feeder we installed. He has a tendency to paw at buckets so using something that would collapse would get frustrating.
I love the rooster 🐓 😀 Manzer is becoming so awesome. His muscles are beautifully shaped on his body. As a mom, of course you are attentive to details to watch as he grows up. Maybe the vet can reassure you. His left hint leg seems correct now. Beautiful baby 😍
That hoof does look a little bit off but I don’t know enough about horse development to guess whether or not it’s something he’ll outgrow. Definitely keep an eye on it and maybe bring it up to the vet the next time he sees one but he seems to be getting around well so I wouldn’t worry about it yet. Overall he’s a beautiful little guy.
Really appreciate your love and consideration of all aspects of working an animal! This is a beautiful colt, but if unhappy will not grow and develop to best it can be. You are very special and your animals will respond to that care. This is one gorgeous foal.
I think his hoof is fine....I worked w/horses all through high school. My boss always said, the same, but the farrier said, they would grow into it! They're beautiful!❤
I think you are right in that his front feet are incorrect. In dogs at confirmation shows, we say the front is easty-westy. I think your boy has some genetic issues possibly. I think you should get him in university equine vet school for both the neck and his legs. He may have some spinal issues and pain issues due to a genetic disease. He just does not seem put together that well.
Paris Wolf thank you for your concern but he is put together perfectly for what I was looking for. I did a lot of research on his “genetics” and owner his mother for 18 years before I made the decision to breed and I got exactly what I wanted. Why would I take him to a university? I live in the middle of nowhere and that’s not even remotely a financial option, nor is it necessary. His hoof looks much better now but even if it were clubbed, that’s ok because it’s totally manageable. I’m not planning to show him and even if I did it wouldn’t be in classes that judge their conformation. Have you heard of Secretariat? He was born crooked and they never thought he’d become the superstar that he did. It’s just too early to know what he’ll turn into.
He is looking more like Mama every day! I love the look of your farm/ranch. So much green and trees! We don’t have as many trees in North Dakota until you get off the traveled roads. Then you find many secret hiding spots, and a way to escape the wind.
Kathy F. Thank you! I’ve been to a few secret hiding spots in North Dakota and its so beautiful! While driving to pick up my filly, My friend Katie and I were wondering how you’d ever hide in ND, definitely not a problem in upper michigan! We do have a lot of cover around here.
You have so much beautiful woodlands there! We have so much prairie. But when you get on the back roads there are all kinds of coulees and tree patches. If you go far enough west, you hit the Badlands and Teddy Roosevelt National Grasslands. You can hide there for years! I had a giggle while watching your video of your trip here. When you stopped in Bismarck at the grocery store and the western store, you were just down the road about 1-1/2 miles from my house! Small world! I am trying to remember. Did you name your filly Nakota? They are a beautiful breed!
A farrier cannot fix a club foot, only surgery can. This happened to a filly of mine, and I had the surgery done. It is minor when they are young, and it is the only time you can do it. My filly was not yet weaned when I had it done, and thankfully her feet were straight. I had my mare at the place where she was bred, and thankfully, these people knew what they were doing. They have two world champions, so I trusted them when they told me the filly was club footed. I saw it before and after, I would recommend it. This was some years ago, but at the time this surgery was done at a nearby university vet school it was only 500 dollars. I know it would be more today, but not prohibitive.
I rode a gelding with a front left club foot. With proper maintenance and staying on top of it he was fine. It is genetic. I would check into his bloodlines to see where it may have come from and not breed him. It looks the same as my fillies started. I had a filly the same way, found out her sire had a several foals with the same issue. I sold her with a do not breed clause. It shouldn't affect him too much tho for a nice riding gelding.
Hey Brandi, did you ever figure out his hooves? In the video his front feet definitely looked club-footed. The left more than the right, but definitely the left. Interested to see how they turned out, have they changed at all? My 3 year old was like this as a foal too. He was club footed and the farrier was able to correct it over a 6-9 month period.
No! He is not club foot! He's fine. Your reading into something that's only in your head. Things are going great with that boy. You should thank your Higher Power for such a wonderful gift.
His foot doesnt necessarily look clubbed to me but it definitely looks different. I've seen another goal with an abnormality similar to this and it was the ligaments in the pastern and knee being to tight that were the problem. That's what it looks like to me since it seems there isn't much forward flexion in that left hoof when he walks. Hopefully you guys get it figured out!
Here is an interesting article I found. If this is potentially what he has it's definitely not as severe as the foals in this article. This could potentially be a result from him throwing his back out although he didn't seem to appear lame from what you shared. Ultimately you know him best and I hope it's a simple fix! www.hoofbeats.com.au/Backcopies_archived/archieved_articles/on08_tendons.html
He's so gosh darn handsome! And his tantrum is pure gold.....🥰🥰🥰. He and Nika are just the best. Those poor chickens! He's like a sibling taking it out on the others. As a side note...the rooster calling made my dog howl! Lol thanks as always Brandi! Hope the editing wasn't too painful 😬. I am grateful!
Missy S haha that’s great about your dog, too funny. Just wait until you see Manzer and Bear playing, so funny! Nika was so happy when Manzer finally had some friends 😂
@@VersatileHorsemanship oh I can't wait! I love watching the horses play in the field. It never gets old! Nika is such a good mom but she's probably ready for a break and friends for Manzer is the way to that! He's a good boy and I'm sure he'll make lots of friends 😉😊
If that’s not an “I’m booored “ I don’t know what is rofl! It’s so amazing watching baby horses learn! It’s even better with other babies around. Looks like your having a blast rofl!!
I remember reading ages ago that you have to breed a sorrel to a dun or buckskin to get a palomino, but here both mother and son are Palomino. Explains why you see more of those than buckskin/duns.
Pia palomino and buckskin horses have one copy of the CR (cream gene). Palomino horses are chestnuts (genotype eeAa or eeAA) with one CR gene (heterozygous for CR), buckskins come from bays (EeAa or EeAA). You can’t get palomino from dun (gene is D), only CR. Nika has one CR gene from her sire, so Manzer has inherited the CR gene from Nika. Manzer had a 25% chance of getting palomino, unless his sire is also palomino, which would make it 50%. Im by no means an expert on horse color genetics, but it is something I’m really interesting in! www.jenniferhoffman.net/horse/extension.html this is a fun game to see how different genetic combos would work out.
What do mean by GRAIN. I let my foals mum wean him off herself. Then at a year i sent him away for a while, when he came back he went straight up to his mum. I never had a problem with him napping or anything. I know most of the times foals are taken away from their mothers to early, it's down to money and costs.
Barbara Dyson I feed Nutrena Safe Choice Mare and Foal Pellets along with a vitamin supplement so they can get the vitamins and minerals they need. Our soil is very deficient on many essential minerals so we need to supplement them.
@@VersatileHorsemanship i come across the word grain and to me it usually means oats. I fed my monster sugar beet with micromix, which contains, oats, maize, peas, carrots and various herbs and corns. I always feed wet feeds, cause it helps against colic. Plus i do have good grazing, which helps tremendously.
Dee TN gator thank you. I haven’t weaned him yet. Him and his mom are out with the herd and he has plenty of buddies so I think weaning should be relatively easy
Your like me!! Don't over think it.. Most likely if there's something going on with his foot he will grow out of it.. When you have a baby that looks as perfect as he is.. Don't over think it. 🌹
Manzer and his shenanigans absolutely saved this rotten day for me, I am now enamored with this beautiful, charismatic colt and his high jinks! Manzer is simply gorgeous, a clone of Nika! Why not save his hoof issues till after the holidays? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your entire furry/human family!! Thanks for such an inspiring video journey!
Sorry to say that it appears to be somewhat clubbed/ contracted heel (?) Absolutely get the farrier out to consider gently trimming heel down. Better weight distribution through his heel will help spread his heel. Good news...He’s growing still so can work on it. ❤️
Manser is so darn cute but his left foot is clubbed. The farrier should have spotted that before now and I'm sure he will start correcting it. If you are going to breed his mom again, I would look for a stallion with shorter pasterns, longer neck and no foot issues in order to balance out your moms babies a little bit. Absolutely love their coloring. Its never too early to watch out for temper issues, especially in stallions. By now I would like to see you use your voice to start telling him "nope" when kicking the walls or kicking out when there are people around and a big one, NO PUSHING at people. Hope I'm not being too critical but just from experience with lots of stallions/colts
Irene George Messinger his hoof looks much better now. I do my own trimming. Not to worry, I do not allow my horses to push me around so that will not be an issue. He is a very respectful colt and has been taught to be that way from day one. I’ve dealt with plenty of horses who were pushy and dangerous. It’s not something that I would ever allow to happen.
It does seem like there's something going on with that left foot like you said. It looks like it is larger than the right and they don't both look to have the same range of flexibility?
Mary Ranch thank you, his mama has some awesome muscles and he looks like he’ll be then same. I’m not sure about the club foot either, looks pretty normal now. Happy holidays to you!
What book would you recommend for an adult interested in learning about horses, riding, care..Thanks. I really enjoy watching how competent you are with all kinds of horse issues.
Marypat Parker Personally I recommend anything by Buck Brannaman, Ray Hunt, and Tom Dorrance. I have several books that I really enjoy and should probably share them in a video.
I think a video on your favorite videos and books for learning about horses or training them would be a fabulous tool for those of us looking for additional self study. You are a very good communicator in your videos. You make it easy to understand for those of us who do not have horses but try to be near them as much as possible.
Mary Pat, besides reading books, one of the best things you can do is jump in and if able, start taking lessons. it’s one of the best things in the world, any troubles you may have will melt away.
@@gaelcrane8008 Thank you for your advice. I would like to volunteer at a local horse rescue enterprise as well as take lessons. I would like to have a fair understanding of horse basics before I do that. That would include anatomy, where exactly are those withers? Why do so many horses look different where the mane ends on the back and how does that affect getting the correct size saddle? Some horses look sway back, others don't have much curve to their backs and how does that affect them as they age, or does it affect their gait? Should some horses not be ridden due to back issues?
Versatile Horsemanship I’m sorry there seems to be some confusion... I have feed my guys from a ground feeder not feeding them on the ground... the foal should be able to eat off the ground with a ground feeder given that horses do eat grass off the ground
No that's why God made buckets. 😎 if the feeder is in the ground cool. I'd make sure they graze in wild alfalfa. So good to get fresh greens plus cut hay and grain. Imho.
Hmmm if you’ve been following my goals journey you’ll see that he was injured and can not reach the ground. I prefer to feed my horses in stalls because they always dump their buckets and it gets wasted on the ground. I have a few horses who will stand perfectly still and keep their mouth in the bucket, but 90% of them make a mess and the grain is wasted. I have too many horses to do it that way, feeding in stalls makes my life easier.
*Lovejoy Walker* yes, pasture grass would be great but not an option on our property. Alfalfa would not be good for my herd. I have some horses who can not have alfalfa or fresh grass due to the sugar content. I prefer to give my horses grain in their stalls because they make a mess on the ground even when fed in a bucket. When in a stall they clean it all up, on the ground it gets spilled and wasted.
I can understand your concern re club foot. My Arabian filly was reserve champion at the biggest Arab show here in Western Australia at 5 months then at 6 months she showed signs of club foot. All the kings horses and all the kings men could not fix that foot including 2 week farrier visits special shoes and surgery. So she ended up being a pet and we could not even breed her. Nowadays I’m sure there is lots they can do they didn’t do 40 years ago. But my advice to you is DO get a farrier to look at it they know feet better that vets. DONT give feed to promote growth. I think it made things worse for my filly EVERYTHING grew beautifully but that foot! I cried a thousand tears. I wondered IF I just get her basic horse food like have or paddock grazed her would her hoof grow normal... because it’s a tendon in the leg that is too tight that makes the heel grow or that’s what they said in those days. I don’t think it is clubby but if I were you it might be prudent to have your farrier manage his foot (feet) to ensure the angles of the hoof are optimal to be safe. If it’s gonna happen it will be in the next few months.
Kinzhorses Foals are really hard. Everything looks perfect one day and then the next week stuff is all out of line. They grow too much too fast. I need to do a video of his hooves right now to show the difference.
Patricia Staton thank you. it was built in 1993 and we bought it in 2010. We’ve done a lot of remodeling and there’s a lot more to come. My dad made all the stall doors and windows, they are my favorite part.
Sorry that foot looks definitely clubbed. I’d get a farrier in ASAP. It also looks he’s splayed in front. This can be corrected by a good farrier in consultation with a Vet
Hi Brandy. He does look a bit club footed in that one hoof but it is really hard to tell from the video. Is the heel taller and more contracted when you compare both front feet? He would look to be a mild Grade 1 *if* he is...maybe your farrier can intervene now before his boney structures change or at least assess the hoof for you. Does he seem a bit sickle hocked in back? I was noticing when he runs he looks like he is almost sitting down. It was in one of the baby videos when he was out with Nika and you were riding her, I think. You may want to watch that carefully too because too much strain on the hocks can cause lots of issues. He should be fine for trail riding and such but I probably would not barrel race or jump . He is a cute little guy for sure and what a fabulous temperament! There is no perfectly conformed horse so having one that is sweet and loving is more important. 🥰
Versatile Horsemanship oh dear me. He had a difficult birth too?? I missed that. This poor guy has been through so much!! Do you still continue chiropractic for his neck and back soreness? I need to get a Chiro for my baby. He flipped himself over in his stall before he was 4 months old and I think that is why he has trouble lifting up his left hind for hoof cleaning.
Get your top notch farrier to the rescue next time hes out! Lol its never too early. Manzer will appreciate a super supportive aunt or uncle or another foal to be with at weaning. They need a partner... Have a nice Holiday & New Year!
Monica Peterson he will be staying with his mom in the herd until spring. I trim all of my own horses so I will start working on him as soon as I have him going good in a halter.
Paris Wolf there are no “specialist” farriers or “specialist” vets or large animal hospitals where we live. I am capable and if I have questions or concerns I will make sure to get the help that I need to get the job done.
I was noticing that left front also; it does look suspicious, and his pastern and ankle look thickened to me. Cross your fingers..... Partial weaning, or gradual weaning? I like the idea.
Horses: naturally travel several miles a day, grazing little bits all day, finding comfort in their herd. Barn people: tiny isolated box with no exercise and occasional binging?
Anna Harward my horses are in a pasture with their herd 24/7. They are brought in for 15 minutes a day to get their grain and essential vitamins and minerals. Don’t judge what you don’t know.
Anna Harward so watching a 12 minute video and seeing two horses in stalls leads you to believe that they live in there all the time? Clearly you don’t follow my channel and are pretty quick to judge.. and probably a tad ignorant.

Manzer is our little Hero. Always a good job Brandy.
Mark Rumfola thank you!
His whiskers! 💗💗
I am so sorry I missed your live video. Manzer is so cute I just love his tail.
shez61 I will be sure to give everyone a heads up about the next one. The last one was not planned 😂
What a little Stinker! Ha Ha! Love your vids! Thank you!!
Winona Johnston thank you, I’m glad you enjoy my videos 😊
I love the rooster 🐓 😀 Manzer is becoming so awesome. His muscles are beautifully shaped on his body. As a mom, of course you are attentive to details to watch as he grows up. Maybe the vet can reassure you. His left hint leg seems correct now. Beautiful baby 😍
Martine in France thank you! He’s really straightening up nicely.
I will do that also. I agree with you ❤ love your videos
Patricia Staton thank you, I’m glad you enjoy them
Yayyyy! Manzer! I needed this today. Thank you.
Connie Zapiain you’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Precious and beautiful!
Stephanie Johns thank you
He is getting so big and his legs even models would be proud of a beautiful little man love him loads xxx
Karen thank you
Really appreciate your love and consideration of all aspects of working an animal! This is a beautiful colt, but if unhappy will not grow and develop to best it can be. You are very special and your animals will respond to that care. This is one gorgeous foal.
Mary Brantley thank you for the kind words
I think his hoof is fine....I worked w/horses all through high school. My boss always said, the same, but the farrier said, they would grow into it! They're beautiful!❤
I think you are right in that his front feet are incorrect. In dogs at confirmation shows, we say the front is easty-westy.
I think your boy has some genetic issues possibly. I think you should get him in university equine vet school for both the neck and his legs. He may have some spinal issues and pain issues due to a genetic disease. He just does not seem put together that well.
This is a horse NOT A DOG!!!!! Why do people always have something to say when they don't know what their talking about???
There is something wrong with his gait and "favors" that left foot.
joliet60432 Lmao!! He's just a baby !! I don't think she's trying to breed the next Triple Crown winner.....
joliet60432 he was injured and still recovering. He’s doing fine now. Don’t be so quick to toss around the pessimist lingo. He’s just a baby
Kathy F. Oh wow, super small world, we could have met for lunch! I really liked that area, beautiful country. I named her Ohnah
V Wyldrose it looks better now
@@VersatileHorsemanship Good, I am glad. He really is a pretty colt.
Lol he is mad at you Brandi.
Carol Shortley I think so 😂
He’s just the cutest!! ♥️🐴♥️
Karen Kasberg thank you!
Jessica Gray I think he looks pretty normal now. I’m going to start lightly trimming him as soon as he’s halter broke
No! He is not club foot! He's fine. Your reading into something that's only in your head. Things are going great with that boy. You should thank your Higher Power for such a wonderful gift.
I think his foot was a little different because of how he was compensating when he was sore. He looks so much better now. Thank you
I love it he just has to stir up the grain it’s kinda cute. He sure wants to be with his mommy but at least he can get out and visit her.
Dorothy Merrell oh just wait, more grain stirring coming soon. It has turned into quite the game for him 😂
His foot doesnt necessarily look clubbed to me but it definitely looks different.
He looks pretty straight now.
@@VersatileHorsemanship awesome! Glad to hear!
Haaaa like his dance. Good video
I love watching them learn, such a great experience
I think his leg and hoof looks fine. No worries, he will be a healthy strong boy one day
Thank you, it looks pretty good now
I think the area above the hoof on Manzer the one you were concerned about it being clubed looks wider around than the left one. Does that make sense?
Such a cutie, and growing so fast....
Thank you!
Liking your Rooster
I remember reading ages ago that you have to breed a sorrel to a dun or buckskin to get a palomino, but here both mother and son are Palomino. Explains why you see more of those than buckskin/duns.
Pia equine that is very interesting. Nika’s sire was a palomino just like her and her Dam was a liver chestnut.
His feet look good. He is doing so well. What about a companion to play with as weaning is done
Thank you. Its so hard to not pick apart every detail.
Peggy Papczun thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas and happy new year to you!
@@VersatileHorsemanship Many thanks, Brandi!
He's so freakin cute, even mad!!
LeLe haha he sure is
Sorry to say that it appears to be somewhat clubbed/ contracted heel (?) Absolutely get the farrier out to consider gently trimming heel down. Better weight distribution through his heel will help spread his heel. Good news...He’s growing still so can work on it. ❤️
Nunu Noazsoca he seems to have straightened out. I think he just needed to be comfortable again to use it properly.
Very good to hear. If it ain’t somethin’, it’s somethin’ else, right??
His hoof does look higher than the other one
Beautiful looking colt
thank you!
It does seem like there's something going on with that left foot like you said. It looks like it is larger than the right and they don't both look to have the same range of flexibility?
LJ yeah I just can’t place my finger on it but something was odd. It looks a lot better now
@@VersatileHorsemanship Glad to hear! :D
I am not sure about a club foot, but he has some good muscles and so beautiful. Have a great holiday season 👍☃️🎉
Mary Ranch thank you, his mama has some awesome muscles and he looks like he’ll be then same. I’m not sure about the club foot either, looks pretty normal now. Happy holidays to you!
He is still so beautiful 😍
Guardian Angel thank you. Looks just like his mama
That he Does and ur very welcome love watching your channel
@@marypatparker481 you’re very welcome Marypat, sounds like you’re on the right path!
I’ve fed my guys from ground feeders based on the idea that horses eat grasses on the ground... why not their feed as well?
Hmmm I’m not really a fan of putting their grain on the ground and making them pick it out of the mud and dirt. That would be very wasteful.
If it’s gonna happen it will be in the next few months.
ksanurse oh man that’s quite the story, thanks for sharing
So handsome!
Tari Blevins he is starting to look like a young man and losing his baby face ♥️
One thing i noticed when u showed the hooves was they looked turned out. Im not sure if its a baby thing or not but yes his feet look pretty straght
Kinzhorses Foals are really hard. Everything looks perfect one day and then the next week stuff is all out of line. They grow too much too fast. I need to do a video of his hooves right now to show the difference.
Versatile Horsemanship hmm that weird wonder y that happens 🤔
Tell me who built your barn..I like it and enjoy 🙏💙💙
Patricia Staton thank you. it was built in 1993 and we bought it in 2010. We’ve done a lot of remodeling and there’s a lot more to come. My dad made all the stall doors and windows, they are my favorite part.
So much cuteness and sweetness on four legs.
Melisa Raines isn’t that the truth ♥️
Good God this love affair I have with horses goes on since I first saw one. Lafs... my first artistic inspiration was a horse. 🐎🐴
He looks great
A slight differance in the left pastern too.
I know horses are built for running but MAN I’m so surprised how much muscle he has already. He’s so stinkin cute
Zoe Dreeszen he really is a muscled up little dude. Just like his mama!
Manzer is Such a beautiful boy. The one foot on the front left looks off..
I hit this video so hard and fast 💨 I think I broke my finger! Lol 👉🚨🚑🩹
+Edie King haha!! Thanks for tuning in!
Sorry that foot looks definitely clubbed. I’d get a farrier in ASAP. It also looks he’s splayed in front. This can be corrected by a good farrier in consultation with a Vet
Pip R his hoof looks better now. Hard to tell when they grow so quickly
He’s so cute
How old is he in
This video?
Very funny!!!
HappyLandFarms thank you. He looks straighter every day. Considering how crooked he came out, I’m pretty happy with how he’s turning out.
HappyLandFarms yes if you watch his playlist from the beginning you’ll see all the troubles he had.
How old are colts when/if you decide to neuter them?
Kally Kat they can be gelded at 6 months.
Versatile Horsemanship thanks! Do you think you will held him?
I’m not sure yet. I will wait until spring to make my decision
@@VersatileHorsemanship imo but this might need a specialist farrier. It might need more than just trimming.
John Amidon thank you. His hoof does look better now
@@VersatileHorsemanship good! :)
It looks like they're all stalled to me...
Versatile Horsemanship 👊🏽 thank you!! I'm 4th generation of ranchers, I have to just shake my head in disbelief sometimes at the things people say..
Anna Harward so watching a 12 minute video and seeing two horses in stalls leads you to believe that they live in there all the time? Clearly you don’t follow my channel and are pretty quick to judge.. and probably a tad ignorant.
But they are aren't they.

Versatile Horsemanship No problem. He did address a hoof that looked like this and explained how to fix it. The other front hoof looks good at least to me lol
I've watched alot of your channel since Manzers birth and that mare is very cold towards him.
Not sure why you would think that. She is an awesome mom and absolutely adores him. She’s not a lovie dovie kind of horse.
