Mate just wanted to say having only recently discovered your channel my wife and i find your reviews and style very good indeed so well done! We are big whisky fans with a significant collection. We find ourselves drinking a lot of SMWS these days chasing big flavours etc. excellent blind tasting which we really enjoy doing ourselves. Regarding Pappy for $1500 we can buy a 30 plus year old SMWS bottle which tells us when it was distilled, bottled, what cask was used. Pappy on the label specifies “straight rye” which to us means or should mean 100% rye not 51%. I think its pretty disgraceful to be honest and id rather spend my money on a killer 30 year old SMWS distillery 53 ie Caol Ila than Pappy..keep up the honest great work! Greetings from Cairns Australia. Blind tasting the only way to taste!

Hah way to give the Van Winkle the D! If you haven't already, Whistlepig 12 New World rye is pretty sweet. Cheers for another entertaining video!

LOL, I agree, I have been wanting to like Bourbons , I have spent a good amount of money and , yes I know, I gave up already, I am back to my single malt scotches , they are up in price but hey bourbons are up there with the scotches prices, and I live in Arkansas the heart of USA.

Bourbons in America should not be pricey

I recently traded a Van Winkle rye and a couple Bourbons for a Brora 2009 release. So it was an excellent pickup at retail as it turned out :)

@@MaltActivist trust your taste buds! The real pappy can't be that bad.

Entirely possible it isn't genuine, but nothing he said was that far off from my own experience of BT lines.
Disclaimer: I started with bourbon and eventually moved over to Scotch. Totally changes the tolerance of bourbon.
I think it perceptually tastes that bad with the disappointment against the hype. I even mixed the bottle of Weller 12 (lower tier Pappy) I won on lottery with Antique 107 because it was so lackluster. Stagg, GTS, and honey barrel EH Taylor single barrels are more worth the hunt.

@@DileepBI have tried the entire van winkle age stated line through my state’s bourbon club and none I ranked higher than a B, and that was the 10 year. They are great whiskey, just well marketed, but very overhyped, and extremely overpriced for what they actually are in the glass. That’s my honest opinion.

Pikesville, Knob Creek Rye and MASTER'S KEEP CORNERSTONE RYE would of been great in this blind test.
There are loads of Australian and Canadian Ryes that will give these a run for their money.

@@MaltActivist it's not a rye, but try to get your hands on Cape Byron single malt. Spectacular and great value, imo

Dude, I’m pretty sure there is a problem when you taste 2 from the actual retail bottle and one from a 1oz sample bottle.
Yes everyone has a different palate but there are dozens of reviews of the Van Winkle by other reviewers and NO ONE says what you are saying. So unless you think you know better the 4 dozen others I’d refrain from saying all the negative shit about the Van Winkle. It just doesn’t jive with reality. You need to taste it from an actual full size bottle.

I agree. Also please don't take my videos too seriously. I am an idiot, at best.
