- Ice Cube sits down for an exclusive Off-Air interview with Big Boy and offers and inside look at his career, growing up in Los Angeles, and forming N.W.A with Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella. Ice Cube discusses the early years of gangster rap, leaving NWA to start a solo career, and the story behind iconic songs like “Straight Outta Compton”, “Express Yourself”, “Eazy Duz It”, “No Vaseline”, “Boyz in the Hood”, “Westside Slaughterhouse”, and more. He also speaks on his filmography, which includes Friday, The Players Club, First Sunday, Barbershop, Are We There Yet, and 21 Jump Street. The west-coast rapper recalls receiving a letter from the FBI, getting chased by police after a concert, and working with actors like Chris Tucker, Kat Williams and Bernie Mac. Plus, Ice Cube comments on the west coast vs east coast hip-hop beef and diss-tracks like “100 Miles and Runnin;”. Watch the full interview exclusively on BigBoyTV.

I’ve waited 35 years for an interview like this
Dude here he deserves a garden
This is the real shit right here.
Yes sirrr! Legendary LA brother..
Total respect for cube, love how big boy lets the artists talk without interrupting
Only smart ones respect cube
@@godloveszazaYes and got an old mindset I’m needing to be like that in the future than being a fool in the world💯
Unlike vladtv 😂
He asks questions because he actually wants to know the answer. Great interviewer.
He’s a professional he’s been around 30 years Vlad is not as seasoned
I bought Cube's Amerikkka's Most Wanted while on lunch break at work. I tried to zoom through it to see how many good songs was on it. I ended up listening to the whole damn CD in my car & I was getting pissed because there were no songs worth skipping & it made me late getting back to work.
One of my favorite albums EVER!!!
That one came out when I was 17… and I’m now 50!!!! 😮😳
That is the straight truth that album got me through a 4 prison bid....thank you Ice Cube!
@@DonDada-qq5wymaybe go back for another 4
Class eazy e will but up there missing all NWA straight out Compton
I had to pause this interview and go listen to “No Vaseline” AGAIN!!!
Yes
Cube is definitely underrated. He’s a great rapper, writer, actor, and businessman definitely a legend
You are talking nonsense yo.
How can you say that he is underrated?
Everyone in the rap game knows him and he gets his flowers props. He is a legend in the Game true OG. Heck, he is my Favorite Rapper and he is the one who made me love RAP since the age of 9, and I'm 31 now and I don't even live in the USA, I'm from Romania, Europe.
Trust me, everyone knows Cube
Saying that he is underrated, I just feel that is disrespectful
underrated? we all know how important he is. I am a white guy and when I think about black people who changed any and all stereotypes, who revolutionized black culture more than anyone and blended that cultrue with the world, I think about Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson, Ice Cube, Will Smith, the Rock, Kanye West, and maybe Jay Z. Thats it theres not many on it.
I’m a little country white boy from the fucking Appalachian mountains born in 83 and I used to jam the cube NWA I remember I had to get my gram to buy the cassette tape because it was explicit lyric label on it and you had to be able enough to buy it I still know those words to some of those songs or raps. Whatever it’s called cube is an OG any carries himself fucking well I don’t care what anybody says.
Throwing out Love to you all. Best I am a Chicana from Coachella, Ca and I love the fact that regardless of our nationality WE ALL HAVE SOME MAD LOVE FOR ICE CUBE. Also a big fan of Big Boy. 🩶🖤🩶🖤🩶🖤
By underrated I think what he means is in the lyricist scene ice cubes a beast
Cube is a fucking Icon, he is the culture
💯💯
Real talk.. without his pen Dre just would've had a shitload of beats
Absolutely!
1:03:46 😢
The best Ice Cube interview I ever saw, I love when a legendary superstar talks from a place of a common man
THIS WAS A LOW ASS HOLLYHOOD TALK U NEEDED TO HEAR AND KNOW HOW HE GOT HIS NAME AND HOW THE GROUP GOT THE NAME NWA FROM MJ'S OLDER BROTHER CAUSE HE'S THEY HALF BROTHER AND THE NAMES HE GOT FOR HIS SELF AND THE GROUP IS WHAT THEY USE TO CALL HIM HIS REAL MEANING OF HIS NAME MEANS JOE SON AND THE OLDER BROTHERS USE TO CALL HIM ICE CUBE CAUSE THEY SAID HE WAS COLD AS ICE CAUSE HIM LIVING IN THE HOOD AND GOING TO SEE THEM LIVING THE GOOD LIFE SO THE LOOKED DOWN ON HIM NOW THATS REAL TALK NOW THATS THE REAL ICE CUBE THAT NEEDS TO STAND UP
Crazy how them NWA songs still slap till this day 😮
Slap
Lol
Flowers and Appreciation to a legend who bought a lot to the culture 🐐💪🏿
A lot of violence.
Goofy 😛. Move on to your bullshit world 🌎..
Saw Cube and Mack 10 in Houston in late 90’s. Cube should be in more Goat convos IMO
💯💯
He is . He’s in all the top 5 conversations
F your opinion
I’m from the Midwest and I’ve noticed when people do their top 5 or top 10 they always leave the west coast out. They’ll put Tupac in there, but he lived most of his life on the east coast.
He's the best rap ever cuz!!!!!! Straight up
This was one of Cubes best interviews. Great job Big.
I totally agree. 🩶🖤🩶🖤🩶🖤
CUBE DESERVES ALL HIS 💐💐💐 🐐
Yes he does. One of the Icons of hip hop in LA. And Then took it word wide.
To those who have yet to see Cube live. If you get a chance you better go! Dude rocks the crowd. Pure hits from his solo career, some NwA stuff and Westside Connection stuff and of course WC is always rocking with him at the shows
Now That's Wassup. I Hope He Keeps Touring For A While, Eventually I'ma Catch Up With One Of Them Events. I Missed The Atlanta Shows But I Would Love To Catch A Performance In Tampa, Miami Or Even Or Ft Lauderdale Or Orlando
So I Could Enjoy The Performance The Entire Weekend
Salute

It’s to bad him and Mack 10 don’t make up. Cuz Mack 10 got them great bars. Wc is cool cube got bars. Mack 10 got bars.
Ice cube is a goat hands down he literally took down 4 dudes by himself with No Vaseline one of the realest and truest artist in the rap game
When I watch Ice Cube and listen to him speak, it brings back insurmountable joy and memories of my childhood. I remember when my cousin first introduced us to NWA, he got the tape off somebody selling tapes out the trunk ... I was heavy into rap as I had an older brother & sister that had their favs... this music helped shape us... not just gangster rap but hip hop period. Some hits still hitting ya feel me?! Ice Cube is a living legend...he is one of the greats that showed us how you can achieve so much more than sitting on your porch/car hanging out on the corner. So proud of ALL of his achievements. One Love Family ❤
1 LOVE

I love these self made docs from BigBoy, this is the definitive Ice Cube interview
Great interview, Cube deserves his flowers!

“Rappers make bucks and I can hear it, hard to fear it, cause I know you grew up on my lyrics”
BARS!!!
Rappers make threats & I can hear it...
Dope man is the song that brought me to Hip-hop. I was a skateboard kid, Punk music, Venice beach hanging with Suicidal Tendencies crew skateboarding and Rock & Roll. Early Rap from New York was cool and we liked to watch the older kids who were “Pop-Lockers” dance to it but I was too young to understand all the references and words I guess. Then dope man came out and we discovered N.W.A. Born & raised in Long Beach was living in Compton at the time and they talked like us about stuff that we were living. My crew traded in the skateboards for the cardboard lol. Then came the head & back spins, markers and rhyme books. To this day Cube is my Favorite MC. Even back then I knew he was doing a lot of the writing him and MC Ren. Had a 15 year music career now I'm a screen writer / Producer. Cube has always inspired me.
I have a script I want to know what u think about it
ST4L
I love your story. Much respect. 🩶🖤🩶🖤🩶🖤
Right on, Thank you @@RAIDERNINI1
I'm definitely from the era of Suicidal Tendencies!
It took me a while to truly realise how integral Cube was to the rap games evolution, I grew up mainly on Dre and Snoop and had barely heard any solo IceCube till a few years later, i kind of assumed he was "also there" but not massively relevant by comparison, Gangsta Rap did not get mainstream UK attention so not the easiest to keep up to date as a kid.
But now years later so much he's been involved in is like a 5* moment in the genre that i fully understand how much of an icon he really is.
this man rep LA county and the n on the streets to the fulliest, as a compton og, i appreciate what he did and NWA
Ice Cube greatest business man in rap history 🤝🏿
Big Boy is the greatest interviewer who brings out clarity. Ice Cube is top 5. Great albums.
At times Big Boy talks too much. Let the artist speak and stop interrupting!
I 2nd that. Took words out my mouth...he be asking some dumb & irrelevant questions when u hear cube just getting started in saying something way more interesting then did he live close to u? After he already said dude was down the block. He also tells his stories almost like tit for tat to let ppl know he did that too....I got same opinions as you, I'm smart & was looking for that also😅 lol idk maybe I'm being too hard on homey but bottom line is if u have one of the greatest to ever do it......shut up & let him drop his many gems u gonna hear in his interview
@@killa4rila77 yes exactly, like dude we are not here to hear your history big boy, shut up and let cube talk and it’s unfortunate because cube was the most relaxed I’ve ever seen him in an interview and was okay talking but boy kept interrupting 🤦🏾♂️
Cube said "I thought the group name would be ONE word like Public Enemy" 😂😭
Cube said “name name like public enemy..” big boy said one word at the same time
My all time favorite Hip hop artist. Always had the fire lyrics. Wrote all his stuff. Cube is the G.O.A.T
Wrote all his own stuff is debatable
He phuking dissapointed me , I went to his phuking concert(in Europe) and he didn't performed the phukdapolis :( 1st time in my life to his concert and most probably last time I wont risk to fail me again fuk that siht I simply won't allow to be draged in that siht again
(he only got one acceptable excuse) did anyone went to his concert this year or last year in the U.S.? Let me know please, thank you in advance for your comprehension!
@@kvinche8120 😕
@@kvinche8120 no it isnt you fruitcake. 1 or 2 of cubes joints were wrote by somebody else that's all.
Saw him play last Saturday in Dublin, and he was fantastic. A true master!
Went to manchester show. I couldn’t believe how much early stuff he played! What a show 🔥
Dublin Ireland? They know about him over there?
Yes, he is massive and has been since the early 90's when I first saw him play in Dublin @@simonesmith3864
Fantastic interview. Salute to Cube & Big Boy ✊🏽✊🏽
I totally agree. 🩶🖤🩶🖤🩶🖤🩶🖤
Grew up on Ice Cube my fav rapper he is my 🐐🎙️
Thank you Big Boy for this amazing interview with a legend 🙏🙏. I could listen to Cube all day long man. Just absolutely incredible. Thank you guys for everything you have given us 🙏🙏
Can't wait! Cube is a legend, Big Boy is an excellent interviewer and I loved the off air he did with Snoop. 💪🏿💪🏿
Me too, Snoop and Cube can tell you a story and you feel like you were right there.
Always been a stand up guy and still is, love your energy, big brother
Proud to say I've been in 2 countries and caught Shows in both. Bless up Cube and Big, appreciate the in depth conversation. We hear these quite often, but each time they show an Easter egg or 2. Yay Yay 👏
🩶🖤🩶🖤🩶🖤
This is an excellent conversation. It is so much more than an interview.
Legendary Interview 💯
Thank you, Big Boy for sharing this interview. Madd love to Ice Cube, I'm a fan for life. He's the reason I started listening to NWA. I love the group, but Cube really did it for me. It was like a connection I felt once I heard his voice. Then down the line I found out our Birthdays were super close together. I was cutting Beats on the turntables for Gigolo Cool in Chicago during the yearly neighborhood Roots picnics live on stage. I felt like we were on our way into this thing called Hip Hop. I was Dr. Dre, Gigolo Cool was LL Cool J. N.W.A. and Boogie Down Productions changed the game for me.
That hoodie says it all much respect!!
I'm from Nova Scotia Canada. He's doing a Canada tour. Hands down the best concert I've ever seen. I'll probably never see him again in Canada but if I ever get the opportunity to see him again I'm going. The best imo!
Best Ice Cube interview to date…happy new year everyone 🎉
Happy New Year in April 12 2024.
Kept waiting early on for BigBoy to receive a congratulations on his 30years in radio. He said it a lot. We always think we mean more to people than we really do. Artists needed all the BigBoys to play their songs and that helped them get rich. But no congrats on 30years out the gate? CONGRATS ON 30 YEARS IN RADIO BIG
Cube really a legend
Shout out to Big Boy!!! And shout out to The Don Mega!!!! Ice Cube!!! All respect to Cube for holding it down forever!!!!
Love Cube telling his story
Great interview between two icons. And yes, Big, No Vaseline is the greatest dis track ever. No question.
I remember listening to NWA in the late 80’s on a small town in Mexico something very unusual because of the type on music and the region. Im happy ice cube music reaches many parts of the globe now and he had influenced many rapers in my country, Cartel de santa, Alemán , MC Dabo among many others 😎✊🏽
Where in Mexico?
@@snugzillal in Colima
Cube was the force of the beginning of NWA . People say they destroyed hip hop with the gangster stuff but if you always listen to ice cube lyrics it was raw but it was knowledge in it dope man was a perfect example. After he left it was just more rowdy but that militant energy was missing
I always get the impression from Ice Cube that his lyrics are a cautionary tale. Like, somebody in his raps exists and you should be worried about that.
Just saw Cube and Dub last week in Amsterdam. Fire performance. Just 2 man with a mic killing it 🔥 And then this interview drops, could not be better timing than this 👏🏽 And what an interview🔥❤💯 Following Cube since the NWA days and he is my all time favorite rapper. DOPE DOPE VERY DOPE AND REAL INTERVIEW BIGBOY! 💯🔥👏🏽
The crazy thing is the way I was introduced to hip hop was through my dad. My dad was born in Poland in 1951 and we came to the United States in March of 1983. My dad took me to downtown Phoenix because they were having a breakdancing contest there at the Phoenix Civic Plaza and this was in 1985 when I was 8 years old. I still have pictures from this day which is RAD!!!Actually I was 7 because my birthday is November 27,1977. My dad’s favorite band is the Beatles but he loved Rappers Delight and “Rapture “ by BLONDIE which was actually the first song to feature a rap to go to number one in 1980 if I remember correctly. At this breakdancing contest it was my first real introduction to hip hop. In 1988 just before I turned 11 years old my cousins who were 15 and 17 at the time introduced me to NWA and the first Eazy E album which came out 5 days before my birthday in November of 1988 and I was hooked. I showed my friends the tapes of these amazing albums, yes the tapes. Then when Cube left the group and when Dre left I copped The Chronic when it came out and The first DOC album which was amazing along with the Fila Fresh Crew. The DOC is one of my favorite writers and he contributed a great deal to the NWA and The Chronic and helped Snoop a lot with Doggystyle. I graduated high school in 1995 and during my high school years from 1991-1995 so many unbelievable albums from so many artists,West Coast and East Coast, came out. Biggie is my favorite rapper ever followed by Cube and then PAC. During my high school years the amount of unbelievably amazing albums that came out was insane. A Tribe Called Quest had “The Low End Theory “,”Breaking Atoms” by Main Source which featured a 17 year old Nas for the first time which brought us Illmatic shortly after. “Original Gangster” by Ice T, Death Certificate by Cube,” The Rulers Back” by Slick Rick,De La Soul is Dead ,Ghetto Boys “We can’t be stopped “with the famous album cover,”Scarface is Back”by Scarface,Comptons Most Wanted,”2Pacalypse Now “by PAC which has one of my favorite PAC tracks on it called “Violent”. It’s amazing and if you have never heard it I highly recommend you do since it’s PAC’s first albums. If you have a system in your car that track hits so hard!!!”Quick is the name” by DJ Quick,Leaders of the New School “A Future without a past “. For the younger generation who doesn’t know about Leaders of the New School it’s Busta Rhymes group. Cypress Hills first self titled album,Nice and Smooth “Not a damn thing has changed”,NWA “Niggaz4life”,3rd Bass “ Derelicts of dialect”, Naughty by nature self titled album,The first Master P album called “Get away clean”,Beastie Boys,Public Enemy,EPMD, The Chronic,Ready to Die. There are just way too many albums to list but this was the golden era of hip hop. I would also say that the 90’s was a golden era for music of every genre. From Rock/Grunge/Metal we had Nirvana,Soundgarden,Pearl Jam,Alice in Chains,STP,Tool,Korn,Metallica,Megadeth, Slayer,Slipknot, and so many other amazing bands. Pop music was on fire with Backstreet Boys,NSYNC,98 degrees, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Pink,Maya,Ricky Martin, Mariah Carey, Alanis Morissette, Celine Dion, Jennifer Lopez, Spice Girls, TLC, Destiny’s Child, Aaliyah, Faith Evans, no doubt, boys to men, en vogue, counting Crows, Shania Twain, New Kids on the Block, Shakira, leanne Rimes and that list goes on and on. The 90’s was such a amazing era. It was the beginning of the age of technology.
Now THIS is an interview. Cube has ALWAYS been my #1 rapper/lyricist. People today don't get to enjoy growing up with their favorites artist and having to go to record stores and get that cassette or CD in their hands, look at the cover artwork, read the credits on the inside cover and all that that made you appreciate the music.
If There Is A Person That Should Be Honored And Notarized WHILE STILL ACTIVE It Is ICE CUBE
FOR ALL OF THE BARRIERS HE'S BROKEN ALONE IS ENOUGH Along With His Work, Creativity And Genius Is So Top Tier. I Believe Everyone Recognizes His Exceptional Body Of Work But Then Again I Don't Quite Think Everyone REALLY Does If We Just Sat Back Took A Deep Breath And Analyze What Cube Has Done Since The '80s It Puts Me In Awe And EVERYTHING Is A Hit Or A Classic THANK YOU CUBE!! 💯🖤🙏🏿👏🏿🖤
I find it funny that Dre met Snoop because Warren G was his step brother and Snoop was Warren G's friend, and met Cube because Sir Jinx was his cousin and Cube was Sir Jinx's friend. And Dre didn't wanna hear Cube or Snoop rap until something happened to make him change his mind. Dre didn't really have to look far up until Eminem came around
Plus He Met Eminem Cause Of Jimmy Iovine N Met D.O.C on The Road Met Suge Through D.O.C,And Met Ren From Eazy,And Eazy Was From His Neighborhood!1❤
I remember Ice Cube and the Lynch Mob came to Macon, Ga back in the day . I think i was in the 10th grade, my 1st concert. 😎😎😎😎
Don mega. Always been my favorite rapper. Lyrics, delivery, performance. Cube got the whole hip hop package. Kill at will my favorite album hands down. Album cover was even dope
Cube and scarface are two of the best lyricists
One of the best interviews I've seen
SALUTE this was a dope convo, Thank U..🙏🏾

No Vaseline is STILL my favorite diss record of all time. After that would have to be 2nd Round KO by Canibus, and 2 Da Break of Dawn by LL Cool J. 🔥🔥🔥

Dope Man was during the Crack Era, my era …One of the most influential songs in history even more than Fuck The Police-
Cube has 3 songs that RE SHAPED MUSIC -
Dope Man

Ice cube is truly a Rap Legend..My favorite male Rapper🎤👑🏌️⭐🔥🎧
This interview was Awesome to listen toooo⭐⭐❣️⭐⭐ GREATNESS!!!!!!
I'm still a huge fan of cube and always will be.
The first time I heard NWA in Vallejo California, 1989, home of E40 and Mac Dre …
A Mexican from L.A who was way older than me pulled my to the side, all black Chevy Camero, played Dope Man by Ice Cube-
I was in total shock. Who in the fuck said they can rap like that? Cussing and stuff. I was 9 years old.
Without Dr. Dre you have no Ice Cube. Without Ice Cube you have no NWA, Trap Music, Gangster Rap, Drill NOTHING …
Without Ice Cube you don’t have Hip Hop as it is today.
Cube is the greatest lyrical on any coast any era.
Ice T and Too Short are the Fathers …. Cube is the wicked Son
Dope Interview 🎙 Ice Cube Is a True Legend
The dopest interview I’ve watched in years! And I’m barely at cube talking about eazy doing boys in tha hood!
i feel privileged to have been able to witness the birth of an entire new genre of music that is Rap. i have loved it from the beginning and all my friends always talk sh*t about me never listening to new music but always listening to the vintage Rap. i am always listening to Eric B and Rakim, NWA, EPMD, Gangstar, Run DMC, Bone , Cube, Public Enemy, Whodini, LL, etc. , it never gets old and brings back so many awesome memories. THANK YOU CUBE FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION AND ALL RAPPERS !THANK YOU ALL FOR ENRICHING MY LIFE!
