I think what Hooks people is how satisfying every small achievement is, from taking over a camp to landing a really nice blow on a buzzard and hearing them shout a muffled cry of pain like a tf2 pyro, to harpooning the rear bumper of a convoy car and rear-ending it into next week, just has that OOMPH that I cannot describe.
One of my favourite scenarios in this game is when you are screaming down a road in the magnum opus (awesome name for a car btw) and you see a damaged roadkill car sitting on the side of the road with a couple of enemies standing next to it, probably trying to repair it, and then boosting into it at full speed, blasting it into thousands of little pieces
Hey all, i'll be taking a small break from the Underrated series - roughly one or two months. I want to improve my video editing skills and to do that I'm doing a small course and will be uploading videos for other series (smaller videos) to help improve my knowledge. This series isn't going away, but I really want to improve my editing, and doing smaller videos alongside a video editing course seems like a good plan :)
Started it today for the 3rd time since it’s been out, now I’m giving it a chance it is a brilliant game and very underrated shame phantom pain basically took over the title at the time because more people need this experience in their life 👌
You nailed this. I just started playing this on steam deck and I can't put it down. The combat is so simple yet engaging. Every location is different than the last. Nothing feels repetitive or overused. It really helps that this title plays so well on steam deck. Glad I found your review.
Haha - that's the Grapple Hook gun (I think it's called Grapple Hook?). You can aim it at enemy drivers or passengers, and then pull them out of the vehicle and they fly away. It's pretty fun! Thanks for watching and the kind words btw - much appreciated!
I just downloaded the game last night and for someone who almost nonstop played RDR2 all year, this was a fresh breath of fresh air. I absolutely love the gameplay and open world. I can't believe I never gave it a chance when it was first launched.
Though I’m a long time metal gear fan, Mad Max took game of the year for me, even over Phantom Pain (admittedly if it was fully realized it might not have taken 2nd place). Max Max was thoroughly fun, and really my first “car combat” heavy game. I really enjoyed building up my car, customizing it, smashing up other cars and faces alike. Overall it is still one of my favorite games, easily top 10. The only thing I could say I was disappointed with was the post-game. There isn’t much left to do once I finished the game. Most or all strongholds were done. Any unfinished loot locations felt unnecessary, especially if it was just scrap. And the desert where the Buzzards live felt a little small. I remember expecting there to be some giant, procedurally generated desert where you are just fighting to survive, scraping by looting to live, with potential dangers over every sandy crest. But the way it is now I am definitely satisfied with. Edit: Oh! Almost forgot, using the special vehicles (like his V8 Interceptor) I never found to be worth my time. The Magnum Opus is so powerful on its own, and the cost of using the others is just too much. I wanted to drive around and wreak havoc in his iconic jacket and car but the repair costs were just too much for me.
Gone back to this game recently as never finished it in 2015. The part underneath the Opera house is creepy AF, you dhow it in your video. Got to gas town but got to reduce hostiles in the area and upgrade my car too to progress Great game and review
Played it last year enjoyed on my ps4 last year. Enjoyed it a lot. I wish it had more sidequests with story to it. Everything wash pretty basic but fun. Have to replay it on my ps5.
ok......i type this frequently.....when you want.....Like driving off a cliff.....push R3-R4 and the Picture freezes.....then push the camera through this remotely.....its great fun.....also know this....the big nothing is NOT a rendered background......it exists.....and sometimes you can drive out into it when a storm hits...........this is the best 3rd person game ever made!
Unlike the Arkham games, in mad Max you pay for blocking too early. Plus the enemies don't do slotting (Assassin's Creed is notorious for this). No matter how good you are at combat if you're low enough level and you get into a huge brawl, you can be perfectly parrying, doing combo moves, etc. and still get slugged in the back of the head and beat to death in a sequence of pile on attacks.
Just started playing through this today for the first time and wow, I agree, this is a sleeper hit. I really like all the elements of this game, the setting, car combat, ground combat, exploration, the story such as it is. Highly recommended. A question, I see Avalanche Studios were also involved in Rage 2 which has a car, end of days, element to it. Any thoughts on Rage 2?
Glad you're enjoying it Eric! I... had never thought about Rage 2, in-truth I didn't put two and two together on that one, but you're right, it would hopefully (?) share a lot of the same DNA!
I bought it day one on PS4 back then but I couldn't take the 30fps gameplay so I stopped playing. I got recently a Xbox Series X and OMG this game runs up 120fps on boost mode with auto HDR looks fantastic!
Bought this today while I'm off work recovering from covid so will probably have a good week or 2 to spend on it , never played it before , fingers crossed
@@CrumpetsBasement a good few hours in and I'm loving this game , can't believe I missed it , also just discovered fast travel and I'm wondering why anyone would use it in this game , the drive between camps etc is just as fun as the fighting , great game
I mean, I have nothing to say about it. The game is great and the video too. Just a random comment for maybe help you in the fight VS the TH-cam algorithm.
I bought this game on sale in like 2017 and downloaded it played it for an hour and then just stopped playing it. I am not really sure why.. I don't think i gave it a fair chance, I am going to redownload it and try it again.
@@CrumpetsBasement At the time I just don't think I was in the mood for a game like Mad Max, so I couldn't really appreciate it. Definetly going to give it another shot though.

Ah nice, glad to hear it works so well on Stream Deck! Thanks for the positive feedback on the video also!
I play Mad Max every now and then and I do not regret the purchase back in 2015, since I am a Mad Max Fan since the first movie.
This game was awesome, fighting and driving doesn’t feel like this in any game
6:58🤣
What was that, I’m currently playing and never saw that. Great vid by the way. Good content

" post-game"
Yeah good point, I didn't mention it, but once I got into the 'post-game', I was done. I didn't feel a drive to play more at this point.
