Plus for those of us out here without as much gear/experience perhaps I could manage cabinet inserts, but no way I could manage a whole kitchen, so I'd whole videos on little projects, where/when it works for you. :)
I agree with this statement for the same reason, though it will probably be a year before I can start to redo my kitchen (going from closed in to open plan....can't wait to take a sledgehammer to my wall....after I disconnect all wires/pipes first lol).
I was in the custom stone business for 22 years. It was amazing how many contractors and homeowners would be difficult about installing supports for overhanging counters and islands. Good to see someone who takes it seriously and installed proper support. Great looking kitchen!
I just finished a new bathroom install which nearly killed me(adding a bathroom upstairs to 100yo house was not fun). Excited to start the kitchen though! Starting is much more fun than finishing. Multiple videos is better IMO.
@@derpdude32 mostly because bathrooms have so many small essential tedious things, but on top of that I had to redo a few issues the house had prior, like redoing insulation and working hunched over in a terrible crawlspace. There are just a million tiny decisions that stack on top of each other. Kitchen should be easier.
What's that saying? It takes 20% of the time to do 80% of the work, then 80% of the time to do the last 20%... ...and if you're like me another 20% of the time to fix the 20% you messed up...
I love how honest you're being about the frustrations and setbacks of a renovation. I decided to renovate my bedroom three months ago- new folding desk, new bookshelves, coat of paint on the walls etc. Three months later half my stuff is still in piles on the floor because it turns out it's very hard to renovate a small room while also living in it.
I really like how you do your promotional clips. Most of the time I skip through the promo sections of vids. With yours having a pop out of the ad with project progression behind is GREAT!
Totally agree, I skip those promo clips most of the time but with this one I didn't and found I actually listened to what you were saying even though I was watching what you were doing in the main video. Very clever way of doing it.
Leaving same comment here that I did on an earlier video on this series: I own a cabinetry and furniture business. Great videos! Mainly, I wanted to say THANK YOU for not trying to make the kitchen/cabinetry process out to be super-easy and quick, like so many other DIY videos out there. IMO, when folks that, it degrades/dilutes the value of our profession, and it potentially adds unnecessary confusion to consumer confidence within our industry. Keep up the great work!
Individual projects for sure! That way there could be more frequent uploads to the channel and we will still be informed with the big update-like videos.
My parents renovated their kitchen about 5 years ago. There is still trim that's not in place yet. And that's not even due to material delays, they have the stuff to do it, they just haven't yet. Diy projects always take 10 times longer than you expect.
I am looking forward to the ILTMS video on how to manufacture Quartz countertop panels. Bob bringing the industrial process to his home. Then you can send the panels to the countertop shop for them to make your actual countertops. I hope the supply chain gods line up in your favor soon. Good luck with the rest of the project.
We renovated our kitchen in 2018. Ordered cabinets and countertops in July, started demo in August. Finally "done" with a fully functional kitchen by the end of December. Trim we just finished this past Fall. We did everything ourselves except install the cabinets and countertops. Even when supply chains are working properly, it's still a long and arduous process to get done. I can fully sympathize with your frustration. Yours is looking beautiful and I'm sure you'll be even happier when the countertops finally arrive. I'm rooting for you. Thanks for sharing!
This makes me feel sooooo much better about my 2 month kitchen reno I'm wrapping up. My main delay was in getting the cabinets in. My cabinet company ordered my stone for me, delivered it and cut it on site the day after the cabinets went in.
Looks great! We're running into the same "time delay" issue finishing our basement, it's... a bummer. Individual project videos would be cool for the cabinet inserts! I think you already have done some videos on hanging light fixtures...
I can tell you as someone who's been in the cabinetmaking industry successfully for over a decade that it is far simpler for us to do your kitchen than for you to do it. We already have all the jigs you'd ever need, the pre-planned sizes, countertop template knowledge, appliance knowledge etc. Unless you really really want to do it, paying someone like my colleagues and I is fully worth it even when what we quote seems shocking at first. Cabinetmakers aren't rich, we just work for the rich!
It's also good to take into account what one would make with their job compared to the same time that they would spend to finish an entire renovation project as a beginner (minus the money spent to get the stuff!). My stepdad always says he's going to build this or that so we won't have to pay for a contractor, but he makes way more in an hour of working than he would save in an hour of woodworking.
I concur with the individual project videos! You're doing awesome work (per usual) and it's really cool to see it all come together. I've got plans for a kitchen reno of my own in the future and seeing what you've been going through and how you planned has me much better prepared (if such a thing is possible) for the calamity that will inevitably ensue! Thanks!!
Looks amazing! But you definitely helped bring several doses of reality…five months+ is not trivial. I really appreciate how (on earlier vid) you helped frame the “is it worth it” question. I know you must feel incredibly satisfied & I look forward to watching more as well as seeing the final look with countertops. Thank you!

Individual projects would be my choice, pretty please. Thank you for making this video. I hope it gets a ton of views. Totally agree with you! Most of the time, viewers are clueless what goes on behind the scenes and just expect content creators to birth videos in rapid successions. Little do they know that a lot of prerequisites take so much time. Even editing our videos take a ton of time. I love how your kitchen is coming along and very excited to see your light fixtures installation. 👍 Btw, to answer your question, i prefer seeing individual videos instead of a single big swoop. It will have more focus and you could elaborate more. Probably do a recap vid towards the end to show how everything comes together 👍
I’ve got to say, I discovered your channel way back in the early days before you wore glasses. The videos keep getting better and the content is phenomenal. I’ve watched your stuff on 3 deployments to the Middle East and I keep making notes about things I will build when we move to our forever house in southern TN. My daughter an I love watching your project vids so we would like to see each project separately and then a wrap up video when the kitchen is complete.
Big wrap up video so you guys can get a break and move on to other projects! Great stuff guys and big up for sticking with it. Must be really frustrating but you're almost there now
Man I love the way you show your sponsors and ads while having the video playing in the back. Edit: I want a closer look at those kick drawers I really like them
My fiance and I feel a lot of what you've gone through with your kitchen. We are building a house and have been delayed 3-ish weeks because our builder couldn't get interior doors and base+case. Crazy times. Your kitchen is looking amazing so far. That range looks like a dream. It's huge! I personally like multiple project videos, but whatever works for you guys is always great. Keep up the good work and good luck with the delays!
I believe individual videos are awesome for each project! Not only does it allow for a deeper dive on the steps but also demystifies the "impossibility" of doing something which is what I believe ILTMS is all about!
I like the individual project videos. It does more to give me ideas for what to do or how to do something rather than just following what Bob is doing. Thanks for the great content!
Super interesting. I really like that you don't make it look pain-free, unlike most reno shows. You might want to put a temporary countertop over that island until you get the real thing, so no one gets hurt on the brackets that are poking out. Also that would give you a bit of extra workspace, and it would stop the dirt and dust from getting inside the top drawers.
I personally like and appreciate the longer videos that cover multiple things at once but it make sense on a large project like this to cover them individually. That way everyone at home trying to learn can follow along easier and appreciate all the smaller details that may be skipped when covering multiple things at once. Been watching for years man. I really enjoy your content. Cheers !!
+1 for individual project videos. Bravo on the kitchen! The tips/tricks you called out are worth their weight in gold for anyone remodeling on a budget and/or schedule.
I'd like to see individual project videos, but it would be cool to have another wrap up like this when it's all done. It is super interesting to "see" the timeline of just how long this has all taken. It really bookends your first question of "is this worth it".
Like so many of your videos I also love this one. It's great that you actually show and discuss everything that is usually left out to get a refined and polished looking video. Thanks for being honest. This is how you help people who wanna do what you did.
looks awesome. individual videos, as it may be more appropriate for many who are not remodeling an entire kitchen, rather just making a few changes. Keep up the great work Bob and team!
I built your Arcade Cabinet over this last year, and it turned out.. pretty great TBH. First personal wood working project. So I'm amazed when I see how perfectly square and flush all those cabinets are. Perfect accuracy with woodworking is alot harder to achieve then people imagine.
Ugh... man I feel you. We had multiple contractors flake on us, so now we're doing the remodel ourselves. Just ordered cabinets this week. 6-7 weeks on those. I'm on the list for counters, but it will still be 2-3 weeks from our measurements to getting them cut and installed. I'm not looking forward to the chaos at all.
It’s so cool when hosts ask us viewers what we want to see. I’d like to see your kitchen be finished. Lol, bless y’all. One last wrap up vid would be cool.
Individual projects with a lot of detail are always good to see, but a final wrap-up with before-and-after and some "if I had to do it again" commentary is also good to have.
I really appreciate that you are showing us all the delays and roadblocks in your kitchen renos and I would like to see individual project videos more than a big wrap-up for sure. Also how have you guys been going about without a functional kitchen for five months?
Individual project videos wrapped into one nice big timeline playlist like Modustrial Designer has been doing with his big abandoned building renovation vids. He got started right as COVID was ramping up and it's been one delay after another for him so sometimes it's a video unrelated to the last one as filler, or just no video at all as schedule had to go right out the window sometimes. Also individual projects are just easier to search.
Smeg, great choice, their thermoseal tech is awesome with its ability to not circulate smells within the oven thereby making it possible to cook and bake in the same oven at the same time without transferring any flavor. 95% of Dishwashers and washing machines and 70% of most ovens are 600mm wide, larger ovens are generally 900mm wide (usually have rotisserie capabilities). These sizes are pretty much industry standards to make kitchen design easier and for ease of replacement without drastic remodel. The only difficult items to size are fridges or bespoke appliances and sinks.
Individual project videos. I'd love to see an entire playlist of 'just' your kitchen remodel when it's finished so by the time yours is finished, I'll be finished with mine and I can go over and take a look at "What it would have been like if I decided to make my own cabinets instead of buying premade". Since I have to wait...4 months for Home Depot cabinets, I'd assume this is basically the same concept lmao. Kitchen looks fantastic!
That's one colourful kitchen. Good job with making all the cabinets. Not to spoil something but it can be difficult to replace a defective dish washer in a couple of years when it's so neatly integrated (speaking from own experiences)
Great details about how to do this, especially putting wood behind when you drill the holes for the handle & making the door frames. I like that you included the counter support detail. I would love to see how you measure & drill/router for your concealed hinges. We're thinking of using our existing cabinets (framed) and replacing the doors, rather than replacing all the cabinets. The cabinets are well made, just an older style door that we don't care for.
individual videos. Also a trick I do when hanging stuff on walls is I use craft paper taped to the wall for some basic protection. Usually works ok, might of helped with the marks from the hood. Also can help for layout.
What a beautiful kitchen - you did an amazing job! I would love to see a video on how you designed this is Fusion 360 since the design process is an integral part of the Making process.
Patching, painting, general finishing could be an overly dramatic montage. But the cabinet inserts sound like the main attraction! 1 video in my honest opinion. Looks awesome and I’m digging the colors! Good work as always!!
Individual projects would be awesome. The cabinets video was great and I enjoy learning about single projects at a time. I’m going to be building my own cabinets after I finish building out a workshop. I realized it’s going to be a lot of work but I did find the video inspiring. Keep up the great videos. Thanks
First I love the color contrast, white, blue, the wood floor, and the yellow range. Great work. Second as for me I'd like individual projects. Thank you for doing this, now I k ow for sure to act sick if we ever remodel our kitchen.
Individual videos would be great. All the projects you mentioned are things I would like to see start to finish by themselves. Thanks for the hours of entertainment, and keep on keepin’ on.
This wrap up video, while kind of incomplete (?), was probably one of the better ones for this kitchen build. That said, more like this for the other projects would be best in my opinion. Thanks for the content!
I don't care if you upload smaller projects or longer multi-project videos.. but those details they don't show on TV have gotta be in there. This one was a lot of genuinely useful info packed into a short video and that has always been something this channel does so well. Loved seeing this update, building an entire kitchen is something even seasoned capenters/woodworkers often choose to outsource because there's a lot of repetition, sourcing, and yes - small details and unexpected challenges. My dad has been working as a carpenter/woodworker for well over 30 years and after doing one small kitchen build he's decided to never ever do that again. Yours is such an undertaking it would make any of his colleagues weak at the knees... so bravo for soldiering through this and teaching us along the way!
I vote for individual videos for each project and then a wrap-up to tie it all together! LOVE the series and your insights (and transparency!)!!!! Thanks for sharing the struggle!
Love this approach to renovation reality and the clear picture of the true scope of projects. Appreciated the large background video demonstration of assembling cabinet faces during the commercial. Vermont maker subscribed!
Having gone through remodeling many, many times, definitely make what ever format of videos is easiest for you. Remodeling already takes so much of your time and effort. Awesome update!
Smart with the picture in picture ad. Made me watch it because I wanted to see the other stuff in the background. I usually just fast forward over ads with the right arrow key. Why don't you build your panels oversized and then cut them to size so all the joinery looks perfectly blended together? I used to build my panels to exact size like you did then watched a few carpenters build them slightly oversize so they can cut them to size after glue up. I also found it was a lot quicker to build panels like this rather than have to get everything exactly right on the first try.
Totally feel your pain.. I have been remodeling my kitchen as well and everything is so backed up it's not even funny. A lot of places won't even answer or call back.
Kitchen is looking great so far! Agree with most other people on separate videos for the other projects. And for the missing countertops, hopefully those come in soon, but for the meantime you guys could get a few sheets of wood to use as temporary countertops! That's what my parents ended up doing during their kitchen reno as they ran into the same issue
You should mention the way you have been using your sink with the temporary faucet application. Im a countertop measure tech. So I understand your inconvenience. I’m measuring jobs that are possibly 2 months from installation. Farm sinks are definitely beneficial to have a somewhat functional kitchen. Another tip for someone not doing a farm sink is to keep the old sink and countertop if you’re replacing the cabinets. You can put them on temporarily. Just set the old counters on the new cabinet and hook the plumbing back up. No real need to even secure the old counters back.
I work in a custom cabinet shop. Granted it's commercial, not residential, but if we took 2 months to finish a kitchen, I'd be having to find a new job lol. Just seems crazy to me that it can take that long when we can fill an entire office building with cabinetry in 2 months from design to install. Different worlds, man. Keep up the great work!
Individual projects for sure! Easier to search and a better dive into multiple focus areas.

Y'all's patience is admirable. The whole world seems on back order lately. Get 'er all done then show the finished product. Good luck.
As someone who just recently finished a kitchen remodel from last year (2020), I totally feel your pain with the delays.
Your videos are like a visit o a close friend, so making an individual projects makes you feel like a friend is visiting more often. Cheers Bob.
Honestly, whichever way is easier for you guys to make.
I'll watch them either way so anything to save you guys unnecessary work is only a plus!
Individual project video definitely. That way we can see your techniques to tactically the projects.
Individual project vidoes and a separate walk-through video after everything is finished. Great work so far
This kitchen, even if is all white, with the pops of colour on the stove and hood is original but timeless. Amazing job!
Individual projects with a lot of detail are always good to see, but a final wrap-up with before-and-after and some "if I had to do it again" commentary is also good to have.
Individual projects. It means more videos and more information about each project.
Absolutely love the kitchen. It's amazing.
I really appreciate that you are showing us all the delays and roadblocks in your kitchen renos and I would like to see individual project videos more than a big wrap-up for sure. Also how have you guys been going about without a functional kitchen for five months?
Definitely smaller project videos. I love seeing how in depth you get on your thought processes.
Not to spoil something but it can be difficult to replace a defective dish washer in a couple of years when it's so neatly integrated (speaking from own experiences)
individual project for sure - you could make multiple videos about the custom inserts, what you've made/picked and why!
Individual videos would be my preference. Also loved the custom front for the dishwasher. That's amazing!!
Individual projects, the detail you provide in them will help me envision my own impending kitchen build….. thanks for the content!
Individual projects would be great. Kitchen looks great! I did not know how the yellow oven was going to look but turned out awesome.
In the planning stages for a new kitchen myself so have watched a lot of videos lately. Your series on this is by far the best I've seen. Great work!
Individual project videos for sure because that actually helps people who are at the same stage in their remodel
I love both individual projects or a big video. I hope you get your counter tops soon. So frustrating when things don't go to plan
I love watching the large Kitchen videos way more than indicidual projects
I love that drill jig for the cabinet handles. I bought one earlier this year when I did my kitchen renovation. Well worth it.
