Also, Tahdig *isn't even a Jewish food*, it's Persian! And Bourekas, while popular in Israel is from the Balkans and not a traditionally Jewish food, and at least serve it warm! And don't worry LJG, there is a TON of meat in kosher cooking. And the Maror?! It should just be shredded horseradish, what the hell did you do to it?! (Also "eaten" wouldn't be the word I'd use. It's eaten _sparingly_ during the seder, it's not a dish served.)

I have never been to Ireland, but the fact that this many people are unaware of "ethnic food" leads me to infer that the restaurants in Ireland don't have a great variety of choice. The trick is to add charoset, which (in the northern European tradition) is a mixture of chopped apples, nuts, and wine. (In the Mediterranean tradition, charoset is made with dried fruit and nuts.) In fact, the ritual consumption at Passover includes dipping the maror into the charoset before serving.

As an adult I don't identify with religion, but having grown up in a Jewish family, I have to say that every "Jewish food taste test" video I've seen on youtube (this, Buzzfeed, All Def Digital, etc...) have all been really really terrible representations of "Jewish food"-- which itself is such a broad phrase. They unanimously make "Jewish" food out to be nasty or totally tasteless, colorless, bland mush. And Maror is not Jewish "food." It is symbolically eaten in a tiny portion a few times during the seder before the real meal even begins. No one eats maror as food. And Bourekas are heavenly, so those must have been some awful supermarket-bought things. And I only know my mother's matzoh ball soup, so I don't know what awful stuff was put in front of you guys. And that brisket was definitely just stew... every culture makes some sort of variation of a stew... it's not a "Jewish" dish necessarily. Also, it should be noted that there are Ashkenazi Jews and Sephardic Jews and the foods associated with the two sects are vastly different from one another. Videos like these often feature the Ashkenazi foods because that's what seems to be most widely known by non-Jews; I suppose because of companies like Manishcewitz and Gefen, which do cater largely to Ashkenazi Jews. With as little Sephardic bias as possible, I must admit that Ashkenazi foods are kinda... uhhhh.... not that great (in my opinion). More on the bland side. But maybe what's bland for me is delicious for people who didn't grow up with as much spice in their food like I did with my Sephardic family. I just wish these videos were tackled in a better way, advised by a more involved source. Too late now though haha. Unless you want a part 2! (Hit me up, Facts! :P)

So they often shared and borrowed ideas from each other and thus many of these dishes were born. Also the area use to be German once called "little Germany" so you will also see their influence as well as a heavy Eastern European influence. :)

Just FYI the maror (aka horeradish) is almost never eaten plain; it's often eaten with matzo. Some substitute (or add) romaine lettuce instead of horseradish which is a lot more palatable. Also the bourekas are often served hot, so you got that right. Finally, Tahdig is Persian and usually the crispy rice on the bottom of the pot. It's not usually bland either, rather it's often spiced with saffron, herbs, or spices, making a crispy layer of rice people usually fight over. Nice vid overall!

seriously, I'm Maghrebi and my family lived in Morocco until the interwar period when we came to the US. I've somewhat distanced myself from the Jewish community here because I just don't get the Jewish-American Yiddish Ashkenazi thing. My family is very religious and aren't really that active in the Jewish "cultural scene".
tahdig is Persian... literally means bottom of the pot in Persian. it's the cooked rice at the bottom of the pot and can also be crispy bread or potatoes at the bottom. probably brought to Israel by Persian jews
I'd like to know where they got Tahdig.....because that's a Persian thing (Iran). It's the crispy crust at the bottom of a rice pot and it's DELICIOUS. I don't know who made what they were eating but the golden crispy goodness that is traditional Tahdig is worth saving for the end of your dinner meal so you can savor the crispy flavor. Nope, you cannot eat it with Bread - it's UNLEAVEN bread that must be eaten at that time (that's why Matzo is used, and why leavened bread is supposed to be taken out of the Jewish household during Passover time)!

Well its a Persian food, so I'm sure a lot of Persian Jews eat it. Although if they wanted a sephardi or Mizrachi food that is a little more universally eaten by all Jews, I would've suggested... Kibbeh or Falafel or shakshouka. But they did bourekas, which I think is pretty common.

Tadig is totally a persian thing, and its not a main dish. You'll typically eat some type of meat stew with the rice, and the tadig is the crispy rice treat at the bottom that everyone fights over haha

seriously, I'm Maghrebi and my family lived in Morocco until the interwar period when we came to the US. I've somewhat distanced myself from the Jewish community here because I just don't get the Jewish-American Yiddish Ashkenazi thing. My family is very religious and aren't really that active in the Jewish "cultural scene".

tahdig is Persian... literally means bottom of the pot in Persian. it's the cooked rice at the bottom of the pot and can also be crispy bread or potatoes at the bottom. probably brought to Israel by Persian jews

I'd like to know where they got Tahdig.....because that's a Persian thing (Iran). It's the crispy crust at the bottom of a rice pot and it's DELICIOUS. I don't know who made what they were eating but the golden crispy goodness that is traditional Tahdig is worth saving for the end of your dinner meal so you can savor the crispy flavor. I'll make some and you all can try it. ;-)

One of my best friends is Jewish, and I've joined her for Passover dinner. That "bitter herb" horseradish stuff is no joke. I did not have to eat it, but watching her go for it was hard. The food that came after was great tho, and by the end I was so stuffed I could barely walk.

Tahdig is an iranian dish. When made properly its crunchy and crispy part of rice made in a heavy bottom kettle or rice cooker. Its usually served with stews on top.
I was curious so I searched for tahdig recipes on TH-cam. I was confused when all the hits were about Persian rice.
Well its a Persian food, so I'm sure a lot of Persian Jews eat it. Although if they wanted a sephardi or Mizrachi food that is a little more universally eaten by all Jews, I would've suggested... Kibbeh or Falafel or shakshouka. But they did bourekas, which I think is pretty common.

Maror is only made and eaten during Passover in a Seder. It is bitter herbs usually made with horseradish. If you went to a Jewish person's home for dinner you wouldn't find it there.
Wtf tahdig isn't Jewish food; it's Persian. I should know, because my family is from Iran and we eat it all the time. You can also find it at any Persian restaurant you go to.
I'm not surprised that Jews would copy Persian food because in their history they praise the Persians so much about how they freed them from the Babylonians.

Jews lived in the Persian Empire for quite along time and adopted cuisines from different places all around the world but trying Jewish Tahdig and trying Iranian Tahdig is a very different experience.

To all the people confused about the inclusion of tahdig, it is an Iranian dish, which of course Iranian Jews also eat. I have no idea if it other Jewish people eat it, but all of my (non Iranian) Jewish friends had never heard of it before having at Iranian people's houses/ restaurants.

Tadig is totally a persian thing, and its not a main dish. You'll typically eat some type of meat stew with the rice, and the tadig is the crispy rice treat at the bottom that everyone fights over haha
