Japanese viewers may be confused at times because the translation sometimes fails to grasp the subject matter, but it still makes the videos totally enjoyable! Personally speaking, I've had certain deaths/outcomes spoiled to me ahead of time when I was reading the manga so I would advise against checking out the history of the characters involved. The manga may be loosely based on history but follows quite closely to the tempo of what has happened in history.
Yorishige is a real person. He is not a time traveler. That will not change in this work. If you look a little further into the story, you will find out that he is not a time traveler, so please look forward to it.

Many historians have developed their own theories based on various sources, so if you want to learn more, you have no choice but to read a lot. While it actually was a bit tough for our gang, this was likely the easiest piece to remove from the board - and not because of difficulty progression in shows like this, but because the Uncle was such a selfish motherfucker that he wanted to capture Tokiyuki for himself, by himself.

This “unfinished” look was to epitomize the concept of wabisabi.

The real life history side of this series can get pretty vague, with only the major events really getting the full picture. While everything major does follow actual history (with some fantasy embellishing) a lot of the more vague parts give the mangaka more liberty.

Incidentally, from a Japanese point of view, The Elusive Samurai has had a number of depictions from episode one that differ from the facts of Japanese history, the death scene of Godaiin Muneshige being the best example.
In actual Japanese history, Godaiin Muneshige died tragically and ended his life without being avenged by Tokiyuki after his clan was destroyed.
In actual Japanese history, Muneshige was so heavily criticised and hated by enemies, allies and civilians alike for his terrible betrayal (an attitude and choice unbecoming of a Samurai who should regard loyalty as paramount) that he betrayed his nephew (his sister's son) and second young lord, who was also his lord's orphan, and sent him to his execution site. Muneshige's continued fear of dying gracefully and his continued treachery led to his disappointment and abandonment by all.
He was disappointed even by his old friends, refused to see him at every place he dropped in for help, was not even given a single bowl of white rice, which he would normally have been given out of pity and a little, wandered from town to town and village to village, always hungry, and finally starved to death on the roadside, looking like a tired, ragged, beggarly, dirty man.
The Tokiyuki clan was also a clan whose parents, siblings and relatives, unlike their portrayal in the anime, had been involved in bloodshed and violent power struggles throughout actual Japanese history, and Kamakura was a town where many historical events took place and various clans were repeatedly destroyed.

So I looked up stuff on the actual history of this, but there's very little in English. The main source that the author is drawing from is a poem from that time that does not have a full English translation that I know of.
The funniest part is ep 1-2 are based on the historical facts of what happened to the Hojo Chan 😉
