  • If your upgrade to Kodi 20 Nexus or Kodi 21 Omega didn't go well follow these simple steps to change a permissions issue with Android. This will also fix the library update not seeing new media. Make sure to reboot after applying this change.

    Great quick to the point video. You are correct most things I read didn't explain you had to go to files and media to allow permissions. It's a bit strange with this build why we needed to allow permissions in this way. I had to factory reset my box and completely forgot how I did it originally. Your vid was great and got me back up and running instantly. Thankyou

    Thank you!! This fixed my problem with exploring files in Kodi, it's still an issue on the Shield with Android 11 and Kodi 20.2 Nexus. Before changing the setting to Allow All The Time, navigating any folder within Kodi would take 10-20 seconds, regardless of whether the folder was local or network storage. While other Android file managers were as fast as expected.

    I'm having issues can you advise please
    Kodi updated to 20.3 NEXUS , woking on android 10.1, the USB port stopped working the external HDD, looked at your video and the menu allow app permissions file and media section is missing from the menu, I checked all the settings to see if i can find (file and media ) and nothing listed, I checked the USB port with an old HDD and it finds the HDD ( old one is 1TB ) got a new one 5TB both are Seagate, Kodi won't see the new 5TB HDD can't figure out what the issues are, can you advise please
    In the app permissions, everything is listed expect file and media section !

      The Shield version 9.x is Android 11. Android 11 is where they changed how the permissions work. That's why you can't find it. I don't have anything running Android 10 so I don't know where to look.

      @@davidosborne6853I fully know what you are going through, it's the exact same problem I had when my Shield took the Kodi 20 update and no longer worked with my media. I spent days on the forums with no answers that worked. That's why when I finally figured out the issue I made this video to help. The root problem is the Kodi developers. If they would bother to document how to setup Android permissions we would not have to go through this non-sense.
      About a month ago I got so fed up with Kodi I tried Plex. I'm liking it a lot. There are zero permission issues to deal with. It just works. It also support Dolby Vision which Kodi is 3+ years behind. Plex does require a server which is it's only downfall. Other than that it's much easier to setup and way more flexible.

    Hey, i just found your video. Kodi 20.1 was working great until i got an update from the Smart Tv to Android 11 (it was on 10 before). After the update, Kodi (and also Nova) stopped working, they could access my SMB server on Windows 10.
    I made Nova work again, but couldn't with Kodi yet, still getting "operation not permitted" everytime i try to access the SMB server. Any ideas? thanks

    • @GaryQuiring
      @GaryQuiring  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the permissions with Android 11. You need to find the settings shown in this video for your build of Android.
