The last time I spent with my grandmother before she passed we went and visited the Evergreen Air and Space museum and saw the Spruce Goose. It was her only time visiting it even though she lived relatively close by so it was a real treat for her. That thing is so massive that they have a DC3 sitting underneath it's wing comfortably. For me it was something I had wanted to see ever since I was a kid so combining that with the last precious time I spent with my gran it certainly holds a special place in my heart. The museum also has an SR-71 Blackbird which you can get up close to and look into the cockpit which was also something I always wanted to do.
Oh man this is exciting because I live very close to the museum that has this plane in it. I've been there and you can even go inside the plane. It's big and empty inside except for a bunch of colorful old beach balls. It's an absolutely gigantic plane for sure. And the fact that it's made of wood is just insane.
Its absolutely crazy to see the scale of it in real life 😮

I live on the other side of the state and have been there too, albeit I don’t remember much because it was a while ago, but I remember the beach balls inside of it… which was odd
I googled it and apparently it was so the pontoons didn’t get filled with water

Fun Fact: They had to build the Hangar around the Spruce Goose after it's only (1 mile) flight in Evergreen, Oregon in the Evergreen Space Museum.

Technically, the H-4 didn't fail. Howard Hughes built an aircraft based on military requirements and it flew. The aircraft was no longer needed by the U.S. military is all.
