multiple times in the game, a certain someone named MARIO keeps getting referenced. for example, 1:05:03 MARIO APPEARS FROM NOWHERE. and also, in the beginning, bowser jr(the one you talk to) says something like "Mario! I need your help!" I don't see mario anywhere.
