    Fantastic playing as usual Phil. Don't know why but I always play better after watching one of your videos :) I have Pianoteq 5 Pro at the moment...I feel a version 6 heading my way soon!

      Thanks so much! V6 does have more presence and realism, I'd say.

      Interesting Phil. I'd be interested in how much of a step forward it really represents over v5 in your mind. I'm taking from your fairly measured comment that it is not revolutionary vs v5. I still feel the vpiano which I recently (sadly) sold has the edge on the realism front. Whilst both the vpiano and the pianotech are equally and beautifully playable and expressive.

      I also adore my V-Piano. It was my first love with physical modelling. Until the V-Piano came along, I thought all digital pianos were horrible! I slightly prefer Pianoteq now to the V-Piano. I do struggle to articulate fine differences. I find v6 even more fun to play than v5. It has a detail and realism in the increased warmth and colour of the sound that is even more vivid and present. But I guess these leaps forward are inevitably going to get subtler as the sound is now just so good. I have released albums with v5 that I'm perfectly happy with but v6 will still provide a significant touch more quality. V6 can also produce a very rich, hyper-real, super-detailed sound that may well be very useful in production settings where previously sampled pianos might perhaps have been the preferred choice. I don't use sampled pianos myself though so this is outside my realm of direct experience.

      obviously you record with pianoteq, but how are you listening to the pianoteq, is it through your roland fp90 speakers or studio monitors?

    You should do a comparison with the Roland V-Piano that you have in the background. I have an RD-2000, and I find that the modeled pianos are very competitive with the Pianoteq sounds.
    PS Your playing is awesome. I always find Classical to be harder than any other style, technically.

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I also have the RD2000 - I love the way it plays. I prefer Pianoteq for the sounds though myself but my view is that it's all just a matter of personal taste.

    Thanks for your uploads, Phil ! Your playing is excellent. Though I don't prefer the physical modelling systems like pianoteq (I use Vienna Imperial, Ravenscroft ...) under your fingers everything sounds perfect! Thanks again ...

    Hello Phil, How do you compare pianoteq acoustic pianos to Roland V piano in terms of sound quality and modeling... is it worth investing on digital stage piano o pianoteq and a good midi controller? also whats your thoughts on electric pianos in pianoteq in comparison with Roland and Yamaha digital stage pianos..?

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer Pianoteq pianos to the V-Piano sounds personally. I've not found a midi controller that plays as well as my Roland stage pianos (RD2000 and FP90) but I haven't tried them all... As for the EPs in Pianoteq, I prefer them to the Roland sounds.

    Are there 3 Grands you would recommend for a guy just starting out with Pianoteq 6? I am leaning towards the 2 Steinways and Bechstein!

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2 Steinways and a Bechstein would be my choice too!

      Phil Best thank you so much for the response! I now feel even better about my choice of 2 Steinways and the Bechstein! Each of these piano models sound Fantastic!

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree - they're excellent! For me, the Steinway D is so believable and a complete joy to play! But the B and the Bechstein are great too!

    • @chrisraymondmusic
      @chrisraymondmusic 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Phil Best Yes! I don’t see how anyone can get Pianoteq and not get the Steinway D, especially since it was recently re-voiced!
      With the B and Bechstein as well, I feel I can cover so much ground musically/sonically. I’m very happy with this grouping.
      The Bechstein has a gorgeous warm/inviting tone. And the B is wonderful for when you don’t need a concert grand for a piece. Nice for intimate cinematic pieces or less classical pieces. :)

    Extraordinary presentation and gorgeous play! What Midi controller do you use? Wooden keys are perhaps important...

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! In that video, I'm playing the Roland FP90. I like their PHA50 action very much and there is some wood in the design of the keys. Honestly, I don't know for sure if that makes much difference but the feeling of playing on this keybed is very good.

  • @haydn4ever

    I'm new to the digital world. I've played on an acoustic Yamaha C2 for 12 years now. My addiction to music and various sounds and in improvisation have led me to explore the digital world. I just purchased a Kawai CS11 and I would like to use Pianoteq with it. Does it change the internal digital settings or am I just playing my piano and controlling the sound through my computer to speakers? I'm afraid of messing the piano up! Also, can you explain the difference between physical vs digital sampling? It's all digital, right?

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pianoteq is controlled via the computer. Samples are recordings whereas physical modelling synthesises the sound in real time. For me, sampled pianos feel dead to play, no matter how objectively good the sound is whereas physically modelled pianos feel expressive and alive.

    Very good playing, may I ask whether you play on a digital keyboard + Pianoteq all the time, or are you also using an acoustic piano on a regular basis?

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! My background is very much on acoustic pianos but now I play my digital setup all the time at home. Of course, I still perform on acoustic pianos sometimes; the other day I played a nice Bluethner grand and was perfectly comfortable on it.

    Sounds really good! Do you feel any latency when you play? Any ways to ensure minimum latency?

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You will have no latency problems with reasonably current equipment as long as you have installed a decent asio driver for your sound interface.

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. They're presets basically. I use an EQ preset (within Pianoteq) that reduces the overall bass to make the sound more natural and transparent.

    I don't think Modartt get anywhere near enough praise for their K2 piano! It's a fantastic sounding piano that they created themselves! everyone else is sampling existing instruments, but Modartt designed and developed their own piano sound, which i think sound incredible! But i feel like it get overlooked because it's not a real world instrument.

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's so beautiful I sometimes fear it lacks character. But you're so right. If someone made an acoustic piano with such a rich, sweet, expressively natural tone, we'd be in awe!

    For me still the old discusson: modeling vs sampling. While I mostly agree about all the pros for the modeling and possibilities regarding experession it still suffers from something hard to explain. And we did blind tests. I was always able to tell that it is a good modelled piano vs a good sampled one, vs a real one. There ia a kind of death in it, which even gets better articulated from low level sampled libraries. I will possibly never use a modelled one. I would rather decide between a good sampled one or a real one if I REALLY need realistic classical piano. Especially the higher tones and the high frequencies of lower tones. There is a certain synthetic "sizzle" in it, which drives my crazy when I try to believe this is a real piano.

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are entitled to your opinion, of course!

    • @Vanadain
      @Vanadain 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      In pianoteq there is something wrong, "synthetic" about attack. Sound is small, sounds more like upright. But not completely bad.

    The piano performance was exceptional but more homework was needed from the part of the pianist to find appropriate nouns and adjectives to promote the new piano software grands.

    • @PhilBestMusic
      @PhilBestMusic  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for the compliment on my playing. As for not doing my promotional-vocabulary-finding homework... well I was too busy enjoying playing the pianos. The sounds themselves are the best descriptions in my view. I do my best but It's not that easy thinking up appropriate words. Any suggestions?

    • @Jefferson-ly5qe
      @Jefferson-ly5qe 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why go to too much effort trying to describe it? A few notes are worth a thousand words.
