    Very informative video, thank you! I have a Nikon AF-P 70-300mm (DX version) lens, do you think I need the same PH000 screwdriver to open it for cleaning dust?

    This video is exactly what I needed. I have a question though. The tool you used to open the front element, where does it touch the front element. Does it touch the glass and rotate it or does it go into the two notches of the frame holding the glass? Do you try to rotate the front glass itself or only the black frame around it? And where can I buy this tool? Appreciate your work.

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! The opening tool touches only the black cover ring around the lens. If you have smaller opening tool which would touch the glass, you have to be very careful, the opening tool should be perfectly clean to avoid scratching the lens. I used a rubber ring which has good grip, it just touches the black ring, and it does not goes into the two holes.
      Buying the tool: I bought it on ebay, follow the link in the description (thank you for using my affiliate link) or search for "rubber lens opening tool", I bought the "9 in 1" version. Alternatively, you can use a (drinking)glass, or some round item which is the same size as the black ring around the glass, and put two sided adhesive tape on the side for good grip.

      @@CamerasLensesEtc thanks, the idea with the drinking glass sounds great. I think I will try it like that. Thanks man, you are awesome.

      @@CamerasLensesEtc Ok but it shows the metal spanner first, you have to scroll a lot for the rubber one :D by the way I managed using a pair of scissors... I doubt the rubber one would have done the job, very tight grip.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. This is not the first time I've watched your video. Everything is very qualitative and clear.
    I recently started repairing lenses. I enjoy it. But, unfortunately, I have a lot of questions. Like any beginner. One concerns this Tamron. The plastic ring in the lens is cracked. And the lens is falling out of it. This element is in the video at 5.55 minutes.
    I want to glue the ring now. Can you please tell me how to glue such plastic elements of lenses? What is the best glue to use? And also, perhaps it is better to glue the lens to the ring? But with some kind of glue for smartphones. With which they glue the back covers (B-7000). Just in case it needs to be removed again.
    What do you recommend?
    By the way, I also have an old AF Nikon 35-105mm that has a cracked plastic aperture ring. So hopefully one tip will save 2 lenses at once.
    Sorry for the bad English. But I think you might not know Russian.

      I use superglue. I put some on a aluminium foil, and I use the tip of a spudger to apply it to the place where I need it. You have to be very careful with it, if it goes on the surface of the lens (and not only on the side) then it can damage the lens.

    Hi! I have the same lens and just replaced the usm motor. I found in some certain situations on the closest edge of focus it seems to spin but... WITHOUT ANY APPARENT MOVEMENT. So I clearly hear it does it's cycle but neither lens or focus scale move.
    Also sometimes, when it's already close to the limit and AF tries to move af even further there are loud "clacks" at stops. I moved the "brush" sliding contact both directions but it doesn't go.
    I'm afraid all that isn't nice for the longevity of the lens. Can you please kindly suggest how to manage it? Or maybe that's normal for the model?
    UPD - something went out and manual focusing is struggling now too. Gonna dig down :D

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the lens autofocusing correctly? If the brush is at the wrong place, the autofocus is not accurate, or the lens doesn't autofocus at all.

    • @CamerasLensesEtc
      @CamerasLensesEtc  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! If the dust or fungus is under the second lens element, then you have to disassemble the lens starting from the rear. I have videos about replacing the aperture cable, you can view the partial disassembly. My opinion is that it is just doesn't worth to repair that lens, because it worth around 50 EUR as used.

    Is it difficult to remove dust under the ring for the manual focus? It got very hard to rotate for maybe dust or sand beneath.

      Check out my video about replacing the USM motor... in that video I remove the rear sleeve, so you have access to one side of the manual focus ring. I don't remember if the ring slides out after that, but give it a try.

      It is there, just scroll down. The tool I used is part of a set, and that is more expensive than the metal lens opening tools, so it appears later in the search results. Alternatively you can search for "rubber lens opening tool".

      If you don't want to buy the lens opening tool, you can use a similar sized (drinking)glass with two sided adhesive tape on the side. Make sure that the tape is on the black plastic ring and not on the front glass.
