Very cool. I've done the running up and down the stairs thing before, only the piece was a 5 feet long laminated panel, 16 inches wide. That was a pain. Great video!
Jay2525Jay Thanks Man! Have used it several times now and it't super handy. Have another idea that connects to a tape measure....coming soon to a YT channel near you!
Great job *****. Story sticks have long been an important tool for many wood working projects, and your design is a simple parcticle one that even the most novice woodworker can follow..
Michael Olsen It is really handy to have around. Next I would like to make something that attaches to a tape measure to give a perfect measurement for longer measurements. Lots of measurements there! Thanks for the support Mike.
Kewl build. I see this more as an adjustable story stick, than a measure, so to, um, "measure" longer than 20 inches, there's no need to make a bigger one (I guess unless it's something really big). Just gang two or more of these smaller ones together.
Liking your videos. I will make one of these but I will make one 45 degree cut on the ends instead of two. I think I could get a more accurate measurement on a square end rather than the points. Just my thoughts.
Tyler, I need to make a version like yours as mine is too bulky. Watching it" my phone it's hard to see the hardware you used, did you do an article for this?
I was thinking that too. While on the subject of gluing, I'm going to add pads to the ends so that the tool lies flat, and can be measured more easily with a tape measure.
i met a joiner from jamaica who told me to make one because you can feel small differences that cannot be seen and also his eyes were failing. plus you can measure inaccessible place like dark corners where your tape is no good
Oh man, great tool Tyler! I need to make one right away. Also, great job on the video!
Got to make one of those I could sure use it, THANKS Tyler!
How come I never think of great ideas like that?
Jeff Brunot When there is a need you get some crazy ideas! Thanks for watching.

jerry benoit Thanks for the compliment Jerry. The single 45° should work great!

simpler to just glue up two straight sides with a spacer block at each end rather than cutting a slot using a router.
I was thinking that too. While on the subject of gluing, I'm going to add pads to the ends so that the tool lies flat, and can be measured more easily with a tape measure.
I'm having trouble visualizing what you're describing, esp where the tighteners go. Care to expand?
