      dickhead chemistry teacher of mine once was trying to cut a lump of sodium above the sink full of water he was going to drop a small pea sized piece into, instead he drops a massive chunk the size of a golf ball into it. Fortunately it was in the safety fume cupboard thing which meant there was glass on 3 sides. However he managed to blast open a metal sink and all the plumbing beneath it.

    It is quite simple to make from sodium azide (easy to buy though a bit expensive) and lead nitrate. The latter is fairly simple to make e.g. from metallic lead and nitric acid.
    Instead of lead nitrate, possibly lead acetate (pretty poisenous) can be used as well..

    How does this paintball packing scheme withstand the throwing/shooting acceleration, and only detonate on the striking deceleration? It looked like Joerg's last shot hit the slingshot arms itself causing it to detonate unexpectedly, but it still survived the release to get to that point.

    • @explosivescience9389
      @explosivescience9389  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s right, it hit the arm of the slingshot causing it to explode. These need a sharp shock to initiate the detonation. We have fired thousands from paintball guns, using lead and silver azides and never had a detonation on acceleration. The quantity of azide is so tiny, it’s almost unmeasurable. They’re very similar to kids throw down, fun snaps.
