    Recently purchased a ThinkPad T495s and a USB C locking ThinkPad dock for it, very satisfied with it. Even when the machine's not in the dock I still get decent fast charging off the USB C port for my phone, helps me keep my whole desk space more organised.

    I have a thinkpad workstation USB-C dock that i use for my office thinkpad. I bought a cheap lenovo ideapad laptop for personal use and tried to use it with the same dock. Everything works except the ideapad doesnt recognize neither of my dual monitors thats connected to the dock via displayport. Could it be because my ideapad has a low end integrated GPU?

    Can you use this technique on a dell laptop? If so do you connect the USB c charger cable from the dock from the mains? And connect the laptop to the docking with another cable?

    Is there a docking that allows the Ideapad S540-14api to connect to 2 extra monitors while running on Ubuntu?

      Most USB-C docking stations will work with the Ideapad S540-14api - Make sure your graphics card can support it, most docking stations allow for two external monitors :) - Hope this helps!

    Question: I am using the USB C Dock. I place the dock sort of hidden hence it is a bit difficult for me to reach to ON button. Is there a way to turn on the dock instead of the dock's On button and instead of the Laptop's On button? Probably through my external keyboard?

    • @SkycompSolutionsInc
      @SkycompSolutionsInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a complicated question - You can learn a series of keystrokes that turn on a computer, but safest bet is to just used the buttons and deal with the odd placement. OR find a dock that isn't "Lenovo Brand" that has the power button in a good spot for you!

    Hi. I have a slim 7 Pro X laptop which comes with a 100W charger. I'm looking for a suitable dock or hub, mainly for a single monitor connection (laptop doesn't have a HDMI port) and some alternative ports for Hard Drives. Is the Dock Gen 2 a good option with the 135W power supply? I've read it's the only way to get 100W of PD. Thanks!

    • @SkycompSolutionsInc
      @SkycompSolutionsInc  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are looking for an inexpensive dock the Lenovo USB-C Universal Business Dock will do the trick! It comes with a 65W charger. but will support your 100W. For something a bit more expensive the ThinkPad Universal USB-C Dock v2 and will come with a 90W power adapter, and is designed to support multiple displays. Hope this helps!

    Great video!! I have a Lenovo Ideapad 700, which has no USB-C ports. Is there any chance that the Lenovo USB-C dock will work with my laptop maybe by using an USB-C to USB-A/3.0 adapter? Thank you!

    • @SkycompSolutionsInc
      @SkycompSolutionsInc  ปีที่แล้ว

      The docking station connects to USB-c while using power so unfortunately we don't think using a USB-a adaptor will work. We have not tested this out so therefore can't give you a definite yes or no answer.

      Depending on the laptop and docking station, you can support up to three displays yes, making them Duplicate VS. Extend is two different things This- skycomp.ca/learn/article/learning-windows-display-settings-multiple-monitors-when-working-from-home - Should help!

      @SkycompSolutionsInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ray, If you are only running 1 external display you can use the Lenovo USB-C Mini Dock (40AU0065US) or if you are looking for something inexpensive there are third party options such as the StarTech USB C Multiport Adaptor (pn:DKT30CHSDPD) However if you need to support more than 1 display you will have to go with a more high end product we like the Lenovo USB-C Dock (40B50090US). We hope this helps!

    • @SkycompSolutionsInc

      Since Dell uses proprietary ports you would have to find an adaptor that uses said Dell port, but to connect your Lenovo IdeaPad you could uses a USB-C cable. So for example if the Dell docking station uses a USB 3.0 port you would need to buy a USB-C to USB 3.0 adaptor. I hope this helps!

    7:49 I can't connect to the hdmi port on the laptop and have the display ports on the docking station work at the same time. Once the docking station display ports are set up in windows, the hdmi port on the laptop (T14) shuts off. Do you know if there is a software update so you can have the hdmi port active and the docking station (40AH) display ports active all at the same time?

    • @SkycompSolutionsInc
      @SkycompSolutionsInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a complicated question... There is no way for us to pin point exactly what the issue is without physically seeing it in person. However check you display settings as certain laptops can only support so many screens.I hope this helps!

    • @idocare6538
      @idocare6538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SkycompSolutionsInc You say you need to see the device to pinpoint the issue, is that to generate income? I think there is simply a limitations of 2 monitors to one doc station as the HDMI and Display port are shared and you can use either but not both. So they will most likely need a USB-C to HDMI adapter plugged into the side of the laptop. I am happy with your lightweight video as it does give me some basic concept of the docks. I think an advanced engineer would know if you can even achieve 3 monitors through the Dock so hopefully, this recommendation to provide a device in person is an innocent error. My recommendation is to begin creating rapport with the manufacturers and their field engineers so you have that deeper knowledge of nuances and SMEs to ask questions to when in doubt. I wish you the best.

    • @idocare6538
      @idocare6538 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SkycompSolutionsInc Some docks have 2 ports that are shared so you can only achieve 2 monitors from the docking station and then use a USB-C to HDMI adapter wherever that is available on the laptop or dock itself. I have setup laptops where the dock does have a USB-C adapter so I don't have to use the one on the laptop. I just don't mess with T14s but the pictures I have seen may not even have more than USB 3 and while I can't speak to the quality, I have done USB 2 to VDI in the past and it was decent. There are USB 3 to HDMI adapters for 1080p and I am going to guess that should suffice for work and maybe some games.

      When looking at docking stations for gaming computers we suggest looking at power and display options instead. An issue we have found, is the docking stations not allowing the full capacity of the GPU through, which is a big consideration when gaming. We would recommend the Workstation Dock, it's a bit pricier but wont bottle neck the laptop! Here is the link to the workstation we are referring to: www.lenovo.com/ca/en/p/accessories-and-software/docking/docking_thunderbolt-docks-(universal-cable-docks)/40b00300us

    What docking is compatible with the v15 model?

    • @SkycompSolutionsInc
      @SkycompSolutionsInc  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With our knowledge of V15's they don't have USB C or any mechanical docking mount. So It wouldn't work with any Lenovo Docking stations, but you do have a full size HDMI, and USB ports, you would need to get USB A to Ethernet or HDMI adapters for this to have expanded ports. :)
