My gal pals despised all the love, attn,& $$$ I spent on her. Had some nice races, for $$$,but, I chose them very carefully. My dad as usual was correct in getting me the BUICK GS STAGE 1. ♥️👑
My late but great father had the challenger R/T, sold when I was very young. He wanted to keep it as he said to my mum “our boy will love this when he can drive it”...he intended to gift it to me on my 18th but keep it on storage till then. My mum said no, it’s too loud, too fast and waaaaay to heavy on fuel!!! You're out of your mind if you think this Challenger sounded remotely like this as it rolled off the showroom floor. Great list! I'm just surprised the Dodge Daytona, Buick GSX Stage 1, Ford Mustang Mach 1, or Ford Mustang Boss were not on the list for additional cars.
The 429 was really only fast after riding for a VERY long time, in a race it would get trounced by a lot of motors that are a lot smaller. The 427 was so limited in production that it was kept by collectors almost exclusively and never raced, the Hemi was so expensive that basically nobody had a car with one even then cars with smaller motors could be hot fodder to the extent that they were faster easily

The AAR Cuda came with a 340 six pack that was meant to be destroyed for Trans Am use. The AAR had a wider stance in the front and upgrades to its suspension for better handling on the road race circuit. It worked fairly well, but Mopars Trans Am efforts never met with as much success as their dominant Drag Racing and Circle Track cars. A good friend had a Chevelle 454, built up with big cam, headers, etc. It was fast in its day. Unfortunately, he not only liked to hot rod, but also liked to ride around and drink beer. One night he thought he could outrun the cop's, but their radio was too fast, and he went to jail. Lol
They displayed the 1970 Chevelle LS6 454 450 HP car but then showed a 1971 detuned low compression car drag racing. Unfortunately, the LS6 450 HP engine was only offered in the 1970 Chevelle SS, even the '70 Vette was equipped with lower 425 HP rating...go figure.
did you see how the Plymouth duster dusted that plum purple Challenger! In 1975 I had a 1970 Chevelle with a 396, automatic, I was 17 years old. I should of held on it
You can clearly see that silver Corvette stingray is a small block not a big block because if the two center exhaust ports that is a small block if is a big block they be equally spaced
Its crazy I watch all these cars they were the heroes of my childhood through much of my adult years. I look at that beautiful Cuda with the 340 and its incredible to see but then I think for a second and my wifes grocery getter had 60 more HP, its all wheel drive and would smoke this beautiful old Cuda in just about any type of race you wanted to throw at it. Thats a very sad thing to give much thought to, these old beauties had soul, and the new ones? Nothing!
Few looked stock. Back in the day few of these cars broke into the 13's unless you had slicks and low, rear gear ratios. They made a lot of noise but truthfully were not very fast in stock trim.
I see by the comments a lot of cars missed and they're a little bit pissed off, and rightly so. 426 Hemi CUDA, Pontiac GTO Judge 455, 427 Stingray, Cobra Jet Mustang and many others overlooked. I personally loved all of these muscle cars growing up in the 70's, didn't have a favorite. Just loved the sound and the looks and insane smoke shows at the car meets. Oh well, maybe next time they'll put together a proper list, Top 10, not 7. Who does a top 7 anyways?? Just sayin
Put modern suspension, wheels, tires and brakes on ANY of these “dinosaurs” and subtract an easy 2 seconds off any of their times and about 20 plus feet off their braking distance
The fastest car I have ever been in was a Corvair. Yep a '66 Corvair, in 1970. Well it was a little different. It had a 68 Z-28 motor behind the back seat. Not very good on a straight line. Launch was a problem. A lot more engine than the rear end could stand in 1st gear. It only would do 125 -130 in 1/4. At the end of the 1/4 it still was still accelerating and almost ready to shift to 4th. But on a twisty road,, needed something a bit better than a Challanger, Corvette or a Mustang to keep up with it. Like a Ferrari or a Pantera. Top speed around 190 Mph. At the time I had already driven a 440 six pack Charger 4 speed. Driving a Corvair was was different and you needed to relearn handling in curves. Just like the difference between RWD and FWD.

A good friend had a Chevelle 454, built up with big cam, headers, etc. It was fast in its day. Unfortunately, he not only liked to hot rod, but also liked to ride around and drink beer. One night he thought he could outrun the cop's, but their radio was too fast, and he went to jail. Lol
Should be titled "6 musclecars I obtained footage of".
At 56 seconds that .. I believe that Plymouth Duster or Dodge Dart ... smoked that Dodge Challenger whoaa!!
70-72 Duster
sounds nice
I love this car. I don't think I will ever own one before I turn 60. Damn!
442 i had, that was before long time. Awesome cars
Yea it wasnt even an SS. Lol js a plain malibu
Where's the 1970 Plymouth 426 HEMI !
fordpickup40 Exactly. FASTEST CAR OF 1970 WAS THE 426 HEMI CUDA.HANDS DOWN
fordpickup40 70 Buick GS Stage 1 was a Hemi killer and they didn’t have that one either. :-(
Many mistakes in this video not to mention poor condition of some cars. Many greats left out. AAR shoulda been hemi cuda.
@@DrBIeed uh no it wasn't. Where are you getting your bad info from?
@@tomwolak3362 Exactly right. They dishonored it by not mentioning it. The old 426 is still competitive to this day also.
I dig those Mopars
I'm surprised there's no 73 Trans Am with the 455 Super Duty.
1970 Cyclone Spoiler with the 429 Cobra jet engine!!!!
Couldn't get into the 13s or exceed 101 MPH in the quarter mile as it left the factory and regardless of tire choice.
0 - 60 times are impressive even now when you consider its nearly two tons of steel and chrome being boosted and not a few pounds of carbon fibre..😀
did you see how the Plymouth duster dusted that plum purple Challenger! In 1975 I had a 1970 Chevelle with a 396, automatic, I was 17 years old. I should of held on it
"Should have" is the correct term. By today's standards, that old Chevelle would be a pretty slow car.
Those the type of cars i love.
This is your wishlist
You can clearly see that silver Corvette stingray is a small block not a big block because if the two center exhaust ports that is a small block if is a big block they be equally spaced
Raw American Muscle! Yessur. 👍🏽
Now thats a nice economy car suited for comute.
I had my Challenger R/T 440 Six-Pak dyno'd at over 650 hp.
The Chevelle SS 454 LS6 is the Baddest of the Bad when it comes to old Muscle Cars !
The chevelle ss is the king of the muscle cars! That 454 is one bad to the bone engine!
My kind of cars🚗🇺🇸🖤😎.
Nothing!
mopar was the best my dad was a car dealer of all types but the 68 corvette was good 427
Few looked stock. Back in the day few of these cars broke into the 13's unless you had slicks and low, rear gear ratios. They made a lot of noise but truthfully were not very fast in stock trim.
1970 buick gsx. Voted fastest stock car by hot rod magazine. Same A body platform as the chevelle but with more factory options.
I would be happy owning any one of those examples, it's funny how time has changed quick. My 16 maxima SR could stay with anyone of those cars 0-60
owned - 70 Challenger, 70 Chevelle, 72 Duster 340, oh yeah and a 71 Datsun 240z
good times.
Which was your favorite?
I see by the comments a lot of cars missed and they're a little bit pissed off, and rightly so. 426 Hemi CUDA, Pontiac GTO Judge 455, 427 Stingray, Cobra Jet Mustang and many others overlooked. I personally loved all of these muscle cars growing up in the 70's, didn't have a favorite. Just loved the sound and the looks and insane smoke shows at the car meets. Oh well, maybe next time they'll put together a proper list, Top 10, not 7. Who does a top 7 anyways?? Just sayin
Probably a personal favorite list rather than facts. Like you said tho, all muscle cars were amazing and some goodies were overlooked.
Wheres the Boss 429. It would have eaten every car on that list.
Damn straight!
Have you evet ridden in a 429 boss.Thought so.
1:59: My favourite car of all times
love the purple challenger.
The Challengers😍😍😍😍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Put modern suspension, wheels, tires and brakes on ANY of these “dinosaurs” and subtract an easy 2 seconds off any of their times and about 20 plus feet off their braking distance
Boss 429?
As much as i love the Boss 429 it did 0-60 in 7.1 seconds. I believe the 302 was quicker going from 0-60.
That Dodge is CAM ed to bejesus.
AAR Cudas and Challenger T/As were great cars...never won in Trans Am racing though.
The first race. What was the car on the left that left the purple car in the dust?
