With the yoke, you won’t have your airbag on most aftermarkets. Tesla yokes aren’t even deemed safe by the NHTSA, that says a lot. You’ll be seeing in the near future that these will not be allowed.
Aftermarket yokes are a safety concern as the airbag doesn’t have the top portion of the steering wheel to assist when deploying, which may cause the airbag to fold over or not work as intended. The Model S/X have different airbags for the steering wheel and yoke. I have a Model 3 Performance myself which I put quite a few of mods into, however, I went with an aftermarket steering wheel to be sure that the airbag will deploy correctly.
So you went with an aftermarket steering wheel to make sure the airbags deployed correctly even though you said that is a concern for aftermarket steering wheels?
I don't know if you have heard of steer by wire. At low speeds, the steering is really sensitive. But at high speeds the steering becomes less sensitive
Yokes only really work for steer by wire cars because it is not meant to be rotated fully around, so you keep your hands in the same place the whole time.
What Elon fails to understand is that race cars have such sensitive steering ratios that the max you’d ever have to turn doesn’t force you to take your hands off the wheel. How did you disconnect the airbag? Is there a separate 12v lead acid battery to disconnect first in electric cars? Or does all the electronics work using one battery?
The main issue with this is that it doesn’t have the yoke steering system. In a Tesla it’s drive by wire, and the teslas that have a yoke you can’t turn it as far to either side. To compensate, they made it more sensitive.
@@saladman4779 and that’s what the yoke was designed for. That’s why it doesn’t work as well on Tesla’s that don’t have it, because you still need to turn it all the way around to get full range of motion, which is harder when you have sections of your wheel missing.

The yoke is designed for cars with 270 degrees of rotation meaning you can’t turn the wheel fully. Like f1 cars. Left means left right means right. Normal cars have 900 degrees of rotation. The difference being you have to move the wheel 3 times more on cars with 900 to get the same response as 270. That’s why to do a full U turn you need to rotate the wheel like twice vs a 270 degree you would only have to turn the wheel about 90 degrees to either direction.
Note how your hand started sliding on that wheel. Also you really need both hands to turn the wheel? Try reversing around a corner or one-hand steering with that yoke. You’ll change your mind
Yokes are commonly used in most racing cars because they are designed to easily control cars at high speeds and retain more precision, whereas circular wheels are designed for casual daily driving.
