Your tips are excellent, Michelle. Thank you! I have always stayed away from sheets because to me, it is overwhelming and thus I have always inserted tables into docs to get my "grids" and "arrays" for student documentation instead of using sheets. After watching your video today I feel like I might be more willing to try Google sheets out again. Thank you!

I could copy and past your comment @asky314. I have always just created tables in docs as well. Michelle, you are an amazing teacher!! I have learned so much from you since the world shut down and we had to go virtual. I am going to try to embrace google sheets now :)

Great video! Just curious, how did you format the cells with the check boxes to toggle the correct color format once you checked the box? Hope that makes sense. Love your videos!!

As I mentioned in the video, this is a little more complicated, ha. It took me a big to figure out but I'll consider sharing it in a future video! Thank you so much for watching and taking time to comment! I appreciate you! 🥰🖤

I figured it out after a lot of searching online. As the author stated, it's complicated. You basically have to construct a custom conditional formatting rule that uses the logical operator AND. The rule will change depending on what cell your checkbox is in and what cells you want highlighted but it would look something like this: =AND($K$2=TRUE,$F2="searchterm") ... Where cell K2 is the checkbox location and F2 in this case has a sample of the search term. The $ in front of the F2 means to highlight the entire row within the selected range of cells to conditionally format. You can replace searchterm inside the quotes with what text you're looking to highlight. Highlighting empty cells would be "". You can alter the selected text for a given conditional rule and/or alter the search term as desired. You can get fancier and add more conditions as needed with AND, NOT and OR functions.

Thanks for this fantastic list of Google Sheets hacks! I get more and more into GS every day. :) I teach high school math, and am often tracking over a hundred students over two different courses and five class period. I use data sorts based on columns a lot. One of the things that I use almost weekly is Google Forms to collect information from kids, make exit tickets, send forms home for parent input, etc. During the pandemic I was using Google forms for attendance and student feedback. Do you ever use Google Forms? I LOVE the connections between Forms and Sheets.

Excellent video, personally I find pretty useful to make use of the =sparkline() function. After you've selected a range of data it will display a minimalistic graph wich is basically a line plot, but designed to fit into a cell, pretty useful when wanting to have a simple visual aid to start seeing patterns on the data you're working with.

I LOVE these hacks!! I watched your video on Student Checklists and now I have my entire teaching team using checklists to record daily attendance for each class we teach! You are amazing!
I have a question about the student data sheet you created. Using your hacks I've been able to create a data sheet specific for my school and the data we collect. Is there a way to automatically create a sheet for each student? Or do I have to create 79 individual sheets in one document to have one on each student? I LOVE the drop down boxes but was wondering if there was an easy way to keep a digital sheet on each student. I hope this makes sense.
    Thanks for your videos!

Hello Michelle! I've followed your channel for several years and have been a big fan of your posts. Your videos helped me through all the ups and downs of teaching-thank you! Your content is relevant and helpful, and you are engaging. I especially enjoy your technology hacks and step-by-step tutorials. I recently left teaching and am currently working on my MA in Education. We've been asked to pose a question on any social media platform, and I chose yours. I was hoping you wouldn't mind briefly responding, especially since you are an educator, author, TH-camr, and speaker. For my class, we are examining the differences between research and evaluation, and I would love any thoughts you'd care to share on this topic, especially since you are working on a new book! Thank you for your time and opinions, and congratulations!

Great video! On your assignment tracking sheets you could also make the assignment title a link to the actual assignment so that it would be easy to reproduce for students completing catch-up work.
