1. A word of warning about eagle (and orbital) stratagems: consider the environment as well. Planets with heavy foliage, large rock outcroppings, or other such nuisances can partially or completely block your stratagems from landing. Depending on how cramped the location is, you may want to consider moving fights to more open areas or bringing alternate stratagems altogether. 2. If using multiple eagle stratagems in one loadout, they will all share the same call-in cooldown. The eagle will also not automatically leave until all ordnance from each applicable stratagem is expended. 3. On that note, remember that the eagle can be sent to rearm prematurely. Best done during downtime between engagements so that the eagle has a full payload the next time you need to call it in.
Some strafing tech is that for the fabricators you dont want the initial burst to hit the fabs since its a hit or miss for me to destroy it. You're better off going for the middle till the end of the run to consistently destroy them
Well made vid brother!! Definitely a different vibe to typical Helldivers 2 informative content, but short and sweet and quality graphics and voice over
I've played since the beginning of the game. Eagle Airstrike was my bread-and-butter for most of the game up till this point. I was always carrying it regardless of faction and mission. I also used a lot of 500kgs before, but I couldn't really use that many Eagles on Bots because of their Anti-Air Defenses. Now with all the updates, and the fact that I have unlocked all the stratagems in the game, I have switched up my loadouts. Eagle Strafing Run's buffs let it basically destroy most of the non-Hellbomb Bot bases. Amazing vs Bots! Against Bugs, and with the inclusion of Orbital Napalm Barrage and Gas Grenades, I have been running a Gas/Fire build against them with Eagle Napalm and Orbital Napalm. Very strong (including the Cookout, Grenade Pistol, and Acclimated Light Armor; I still keep Autocannon during Bile Spitter seeds and Recoiless Rifle against the heavy seeds). Right now Eagle Strafing Runs work pretty well against the Illuminates, but right now due to the city terrain, the Eagles aren't as useful. Similar to when you are on a jungle planet and have a bunch of blocking terrain.
The Strafing Run is the outlier when it comes to the jungle foliage concern, it tends to just shoot right thru the trees, but I guess the biggest ones may be an issue
Thing to note with Eagle 500 drops is that Eagle 1 comes in from behind, overhead and drops in the direction you threw the marker. This means if you throw the marker off a cliff and you don't throw it far enough, the bomb will hit the cliff instead of the marker, and you have just enough time to realise your mistake before it goes off. My bread and butter on the Bot Front was the Eagle Cluster and Eagle 500. The 500 was my go to for killing tanks until I got Thermite grenades. It's also very good at killing Factory Striders, one bomb is almost enough to kill it and it can be finished off with AC fire. On Illuminates I really like Eagle Napalm. The voteless are squishy and burn well. Nape if dropped right is both AOE and area denial, use it to stop the hordes rushing you. The city maps also make it difficult for the Voteless to go around, so it's a kill box for Nape runs.
These videos are great. Ive had the game for three weeks and at level 70. I play super helldive and i do well, but sometimes i get into bad spots and and up doing a lot especially recently with these invasion level 11&14 planets. Please keep it up.
Additional info I would add is the direction the eagle attacks from. The 500kg bomb comes from behind you, the air strike from the left and the cluster bomb from the right. The air strike and cluster bombs may sometimes come from the opposite sides on occasion. Perhaps there's some more nuance to that that others could elaborate on.
Great content mate! Let me add the gas orbital and precision orbital strikes need no shield disabling to destroy stationary ships. I would add also fire grenades to stop the run of voteless
500kg is great for bots, it kills detector towers, mortar emplacements, bio processors. Its a great all around secondary completing machine. With that plus strafing runs you can solo half the map by just throwing them and running away.
It destroyes most of the bots structures or bots with 1 hit. It can't destroy gunship facilities. Jammers need to be disabled before you're able to destroy it. 500kg isn't capable of reaching high flying gunships and factory striders need multiple 500kg bombs. My loadout for bots is 500kg, eagle air strike and orbital strike for bot structures, objectives and patrol clearing. For hulks, tanks, towers, turrets, gunships and dropships i bring the recoilless rifle. It's even possible to one shot factory striders when hitting the left red eye on its head or its lower belly. And it can destroy fabricators from every angle. Primary: Crossbow (can destroy fabricators too, but difficult against gunships) Secondary: Senator for low armored single targets or weakspot penetration for everything up to the hulk Thermite grenades as an extra anti tank weapon
Another thing to note is that in planets with dense trees the eagle strikes might hit the trees and take them out instead not hitting the enemies. The 500kg bomb it can even get lodged in a tree behind you and kill you. If you have the stratagems space and resources available a cluster bomb is really good at deforesting a large area for the rest of your airstrikes to go in
Strafe is the only eagle ill take into illuminate missions, take the shields down with it and hit the door with the grenade pistol if close,or the quasar cannon if at distance
I wish more divers would use Eagle Napalm Strike on bugs instead of defaulting to Orbital Napalm. 9 out of 10 matches I join on Bugs someone will call in Orbital Napalm on a heavy nest and everyone has to sit there waiting for eternity to actually close the holes
500kg is also great for bots, especially against super tanky enemies or certain buildings. Strafing run for illuminates is also really nice because the urban environments tend to funnel enemies into straight line, and you can clear a whole street when you're overwhelmed + shield breaks are useful as you get 4-5 uses compared to 500kg 1-2 uses, which can be followed up by a grenade pistol or crossbow from long range.
1:27 “which eagle” 500kg. The answer is 500kg. Use em as fab n heavy killers so u can save ur orbital lasers as panic buttons and titan / harvester group Enders.
This is a fantastic breakdown of these stratagems. Especially with the diagram showing the area the stratagems will strike/affect. Can you do one like this for the orbitals?
The strafe is my go-to for bots and bugs, it's basically just "I don't want to have this fight" when you roll up on a patrol or POI and five seconds later everything's dead. It's sadly very ineffective against the voteless in my experience, what would normally be a complete wipe with a comparable quantity and density of bugs might take out at most half of the voteless. It's still nice to one-two ships with a quick strafe as you're running up and immediately putting a grenade through the door, but I don't really see the utility over the others
Agreed. I feel like you just need something bigger than the strafing run for the illuminates. There are so many of them that the AoE of a strafe is too small. I still swear by cluster bombs, but I saw someone mentioning napalm strikes because of the burn effect so I’ll have to try it out.
It’s hard for me to go away from the 500 on bugs. Less for killing (though it does that very well), but more for utility. Drop it in small/medium bug nests, and just walk away movie style while you don’t have to waste any ammo closing the entire nest. Plus… it just looks so good. Strafing run has become my stealth specific bot eagle. But if I’m trying to go loud, it’s back to the 500. Pro tip: on the forest planets, strafing run still works. Do not bring 500 though since it seems like a 50/50 shot that it’ll get caught by a tree
Very nice! should add the distance of safety when throwing ex. Eagle airstrike should be thrown at least 25m away from yourself for safety, and its width is 30m radius. Don't want to much FF :)
Good breakdown and presentation. 500kg is useful always but your nuanced explanation is a better way to go. I don't use smoke on bots because I'm not sophisticated enough. lol
I actually like using Eagle Napalm against the Squids. The Voteless are very weak against fire. City maps are grid-based so if you actually line your eagle well you can burn the whole street without hitting buildings and the enemies will have to walk thru it. You can also throw the strat 90° at your feet to make the bomb run straight.
Some risky danger close options of note, lets say there is a line of enemies coming towards you from a bug breach or something. You can run close to their approach, turn 90 degrees to the side and drop your eagle strategem like airstrike or napalm, then run as fast as you can while trying to not lead the enemy off the strike pattern. If you can make it fast enough (light armor or jet pack) you can often get those wide strikes right along a narrow column of enemies. Very much a broken arrow kind of tech.
Here is my question: What determines, if anything, when the Eagle will drop a Napalm/airstrike from left-to-right/right-to-left? Is it completely random? Does it alternate? Does it depend on enemies around the beacon or obstacles?
Good question. Short answer - I'm not 100% sure. Long answer - I re-watched some the footage, and I sort of see a pattern. It looks like the side Eagle 1 airstrikes from is dependent on the direction you were facing when you tossed the eagle. When you're facing NE, the bombs drop from left to right. If you're facing SE, the bombs move right to left. If you're facing SW they moves right to left. And if you are facing NW they goes left to right. I just pulled a couple clips though, so it'd be cool to see what other people have seen and think.
Question: How does it work when you pick 2 eagles? Do I get less strikes for 1 type that split with the other, or can I keep calling in bombs vs strafing and there is no effect on how often it has to go back and rearm? And, if there is an effect, is it for this reason you would not choose more than one eagle per mission?
Hey - good question. Eagles share the same refresh cooldown and re-arm cooldown, but they do not share charges. Say you’re running a 500kg (1 charge) and a Strafing Run (4 charges). After you call in the 500kg, there will be a 15 second refresh cooldown before you can call in the strafing run. After you finish using all four of your strafing runs, Eagle 1 automatically re-arms, and you’ll have to wait for the 150 seconds before you get back one charge of the 500kg and four charges of the strafing run. After you use an Eagle, you do have the option to manually re-arm. But when you do so, all eagles - even if you have charges left - will go on a 150 second cooldown. So, say after your first 500kg, you manually re-arm, you then won’t be able to use your strafing runs even if you had 4 charges left. You’ll have to wait 150 seconds. Because of this effect, it might be easier to use eagles with similar number of charges. If you want to bring 2 Eagles, maybe bring a cluster bomb (4 charges) and a strafing run (4 charges). If you bring Eagles that have a different number of charges like 500kg + Strafe, you could be stuck in a bad situation where you want another 500kg, but don’t want to re-arm and wait 150s because you need to use the strafes in the next minute.
This is a really good question. I re-watched some footage, and I sort of see a pattern, but I'm not 100%. It looks like the side Eagle 1 airstrikes from is dependent on the direction you were facing when you tossed the eagle. When you're facing NE, the bombs drop from left to right. Do you bring MG-43, Stalwart, etc. and a supply pack to clear out the hordes? I’ve always had at least one eagle in my loadout against squids because there are just so many of them swarming you, especially during raise the flag missions.
My humble opinion is 500 kg sucks. A lot. If the blast radius was bigger it would be a different story but now i have feelings you must hit around 10-20m when your target is to do some damage. On the other side i love cluster bombs for clearing everything and strafing strike for crowd control. For bots i love rocket pods, it requires some practice but when you know how to use it, it's awesome for killing Hulks and fabricators.
the main pitfall most people have is using 500kg as a swarm clearer when it is way better as single target on the titan enemies (bile titans, factory striders, fabricators) as well as anything else you want really if you need multi-target chafe clearers, airstrikes, strafing run and cluster are the better eagle strategems for that job
@J.B.1982 i understand if it's used by someone who knows how to use it, then it's great. But most people see 500 kg go boom and throw it on everything. I got killed by that bomb more time then bugs eat my ass or angry toasters blast me to oblivion
For sure. 500kgs only have two usages per Eagle so you really need to know when and how to use them. They’re great when used correctly, but can be a team killing nightmare if someone just randomly tosses them.
Crazy right? Since I started recording, I've played around 30-40 games to get footage, and I've only seen one other person bring the strafing run. Everyone else brought either 500kgs / Airstrikes / Clusters if they chose to bring Eagles.
@BThreeGaming if it's against bugs I'm not surprised. But against bots I see it used ofter, not including myself bc I always bring it against bots. Also against illuminate I always being it but I'd say I see others bring it there less for them but they're what mainly made me start using it. Against the ships then pop door with explosive was amazing and clears hordes no problem.
@BThreeGaming You know, i suppose you are right. I have always used it. Very effectively which scares my team lol. I kind of get, surgical with it at times. But yeah..... I do rarely see others ising it. Heh, just never sunk in.
@littlenibba2388 i use a blitzer against Illuminate so the swarms were never something i think about... maybe i should tey the strafeagainst them afterall...

@@BThreeGaming Yeah, i've seen that used with napalm or regular air strikes to turn them linear. VERY danger close. Kinda suicidal if its cluster. xD
