You see the same posturing and aggression in rap, especially late 90's gangsta rap. Most hc people tend to appreciate DMX, wu Tang etc on some level. It's an urban thing. As far as whether it's a genuine expression of their individual lives and emotions, that comes down to the individual, so it's not for me to say who lived it to say it and who didn't, beyond regurgitating decades old scene "knowledge" which is probably 60% false.
