Awesome video, thank you. I’ve fly fished for carp with 5wt the last 20 years and absolutely love the initial run that sometimes takes you into the backing. Poor man’s bonefish? Nah, everyman’s fresh water neighborhood bonefish!
I’ve been reading a lot about carp and specifically fly fishing for carp the past couple of weeks. Caught my first one on a fly today. Your video was the most concise version of what I learned that I’ve encountered so far! Great job; and like others said, the combination of explaining and then showing fishing footage demonstrating was enjoyable. Two suggestions: lavalier mic would make a huge difference in sound quality as you are talking; and there were a few times I couldn’t tell where the focus was on fishing footage-unlike when you had the clips with the circle annotation (those were great).
Thanks! If I ever get more serious about making videos I will probably get a mic and a nicer Camera and tripod. For now I just do it for fun, and myself. Not really pushing for subscribers.
Def the best carp fly fishing video I’ve watched. Your tip for masking scent is an excellent one, never thought of that! Like the way you spliced in the real fishing with your tips - that’s a lot of great effort, Aaron. You da Carp Masta!
Nice video with good tips. I just started chasing Carp on the fly this year. After landing my first one on a Brood X Cicada. 48" grasser on a 4wt (was not out fishing for carp with a 4wt)
That is awesome! No periodical cicadas in Colorado unfortunately, but I heard Brood X was insane! I may have to head out east for the next major brood. Geez 48" on a 4wt, how long did that take you?
@@OpportunityFishing it took a little over 20 minutes to bring it in. I kept the rod tip down to turn its head and when it would run I let the drag do its job.
Mad River outfitters is a good place to order Carp Flies online if you are in the US. www.madriveroutfitters.com/c-219-carp-flies.aspx . If you are by chance in Colorado Trouts fly shop in Denver, and anglers all, also carry many good carp patterns. Happy New Year!
@@OpportunityFishing awesome! Thank you so much I’ll check them out, I’m new to fly fishing just got my first rod for Christmas, I been watching mad rivers outfits tutorials on fly fishing so I’m checking them out for flies now! Happy nee year snd thanks for your video! From Pennsylvania
I will try that secret tip of using mud to erase any trace of human scent on the fly. Do you use head cement, zap-a-gap, or UV resin on the flies you make?
I caught my first carp on a fly today; about 23” on my 5 weight. Sight casted, and she chased my rust-colored bead-head wooly bugger on 3X fluoro. I had spooked some carp earlier walking on the back side of a small rise-so noise only. I also got dragged that fly through a decent amount of vegetation (unintentionally 🤣) before I hooked her. I’ll be adding that to my repertoire.

Hey thanks Matt! Was trying to make a helpful video with this one.
one of the best carp fly fishing videos i've seen - thanks for taking the time to share!
Thanks for the feedback! Just wanted to share what little I know with this one!

Thanks for sharing these excellent tips and techniques! Looking forward to getting on the water and trying them out.
Good luck! Hope you have a blast!
Huge carp. They seem to like a fly. Good to see you posting again.
Hey thanks for watching! I plan to post as much as I can. Busy with work and three little kids at home, so won't be that often.
Excellent video! I agree with everything!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the tips man and great video!! I'll be rewatching this several times. Remy will enjoy this as well.
Thanks Tyler!
Woooo.... Good video. Congratulations.
Great job with this video! I can't believe you got that carp in the net, what a trip.
Thank you! I couldn't believe we got that carp in the net either. Was a 45 minute battle!
@@OpportunityFishing That's a long time wrangling a fish on a fly rod. EPIC!
Very well done. Thanks!
Thanks!
What’s your go to fly rod size, brand, and model? Thanks!
Thank you so much for sharing. Could it be possible to list the flies?, like where to grab them,

I will occasionally use UV resin sparingly. I do think that really strong smelling stuff, Sally Hansen's hard as nails for example, can turn fish off.
