Bhondala | A Celebration of Culture and Tradition
Bhondala is a vibrant and joyful traditional dance celebrated by women and young girls in Maharashtra, particularly during the month of Ashwin (around September-October). This dance is performed during the Bhondala festival (also known as Hadga), which marks the end of the monsoon season.
In the Bhondala tradition, women gather in a circle around an elephant-shaped figure drawn on the ground or a decorated idol, singing folk songs in praise of the changing seasons and nature’s bounty. The songs narrate tales from folklore, everyday life, and mythology, creating a sense of unity and festivity. The dance involves rhythmic clapping, graceful movements, and joyful singing, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Maharashtra.
Watch this video to experience the beauty and energy of the Bhondala celebration, a symbol of community, tradition, and gratitude.
