Thank you for showing us these eruptions, both Kilauea and Iceland, with such calm commentary. Not alarmist or overdramatic. I'm learning more about volcanoes 🌋 than I would have thought possible back in school in the 70s! ❤
Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Someday I hope to join you on one of your trips. My daughter and son-in-law were near there on Monday. They could see the smoke clouding up over the rim as they walked the trail across the lake in the Kilauea Iki Crater. **They took this excursion for me since I can’t stop talking about volcanoes and your channel.😊
Thank you for another clear, concise report on the restarted eruption on Kilauea.👍 Thank you also for digging into your pocket to get TH-cam Premium to avoid ads that were sometimes disrupting things when you showed us other videos.
Great update. One of the most amazing things I have ever seen in my life was to watch Kilauea erupt 10 years back. We were fortunate enough to be able to walk right up to lava flows and also able to see it pour into the ocean.
Thanks for this excellent update, Shawn! Glad we can enjoy majestic lava fountaining again! I learn so much about Kīlauea, I think this volcano is slowly but surely becoming one of my favorites :) Hawaii is so far away though that I'll probably never go, so I'm very grateful for the videos you post. Oh, and I love your hoodie! Nice and comfy, isn't it? À bientôt ! :)
Really a bit of a"crazy" eruption. I've been following it each day, had a look at the live cam several times per day. So I saw the little spatters 1 or 2 days ago, the visitors of the NP had reported about as well. Then I was full of hope and happy today. Great! Tyvm for the video!
Thanks again. If you have time and inclination, would you cover the recent post from the Yellowstone observatory “An electromagnetic view of how magma is stored beneath Yellowstone”. I had been curious about the methods and instrumentation used in the recent discussions of the location of magma stores under the Reykjanes peninsula and came across this article. It’s fascinating stuff. But the USGS article doesn’t provide a ton of detail. Maybe you have access to the original publication….no doubt detailed discussions of magnetotelluric data and solar flares would go over my head. Would love your take.
As of 1100 UTC there have been two vents erupting together. One is hidden behind the other in the USGS live feed view, but you can see it plainly if you look closely.
How long would you speculated this on, & off again phase to last? Upon looking at the history of Kilauea is this something that happens every so often, or is this a rare eruptive cycling phase? When is the last time an eruption phase like this has happened at Kilauea?
Question: would the sporadic eruption be "local" in nature (down to Kilauea's own reservoir) or would it be affected by influx of magma from deeper below?
@@shawnwillsey It's got to be an impressive number that's why I'm curious about it. It's strange that something the plays a major roll in volcanism has not been mapped out at all. the only thought given the Gas is the rate of flow. as far as I can see, looking at what's available to me on the internet. can you suggest where I might look?
@@shawnwillseySunday River Maine is not a bad place to ski. It's one of the bigger & better area's out east. Whitefish Mountain Montana is one of my favorites! Used to be known as Big Mountain, & is generally less crowded, & cheaper than most area's.
That could happen in a few months or years. Last year Kilauea erupted twice along the rift zones, one eruption per rift. Plus both were in areas that hadn't seen eruptions in decades.
After extensive reaserch, I have found the reason why Pele spews out lava in phases. It happens whenever Pele gets to the centerfold of PlayVolcano magazine 🙂

I have been checking every morning and saw the little splash this AM. I was surprised when I checked back in a couple hours later. A proper fountain.
Pele showing her power! Love it! I have family in Pahoa… ❤

I appreciate that. Glad you enjoy these. Too much alarmism on YT.
Thanks, Shawn, for keeping us up-to-date - great stuff, as always! 🌋
Me too!
Kilauea....the gift that keeps on giving! Thanks for the update!
Excellent video again, Shawn. Love your work.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. I was getting really tired of the ads too.

Thanks for the update!!
Really appreciate your kind support to keep these updates coming.
Thanks to you I’ve been able to see things I would never otherwise have seen. Thank you so very much!
Thanks again Shawn! Spectacular to see this, and fun to see the fountain grow.

Thanks for all the hard work on these videos!
Thank you Shawn: the fountaining is beautiful.
Thanks for the update Shawn.
Wow! That's amazing! I'm surprised it has erupted that many times. Our Earth is amazing! ❤
Thank you Shawn for another great update!
Very interesting to see the before eruption open vent being just a glow to the beginning and continuing. Thank you. Learning so much.
Thanks, Shawn! I so look forward to your videos.
Thanks for this quick up date.
Thanks for the update. Kilauea is keeping its place on the list of most active volcanoes on Earth.
Thank Shawn! You're the best❤

Another but safer eruption that keeps on giving… fascinating.. thank you Shawn

Such a fascinating volcano!
70m it is so big large fountain, amazing! Like a my 16th floor house, even bigger

Aloha from Makaha.......
I’ll be there in February. Hang in there Pele’
Me too!
the 2nd vent is activating too
Just lava oozing through the vent until suddenly it squirts out!
Watch for ice this week... winter finally showed up.

Yahoo! Thanks!
I'm in luv , I'm in luv , I'm in luv with a Magma production of pumice islands in the the lava flow
Question: would the sporadic eruption be "local" in nature (down to Kilauea's own reservoir) or would it be affected by influx of magma from deeper below?
I think mainly the shallow reservoir under caldera. But ultimately the two systems are linked.
second vent is open now
Is there any research in how much gas pressure it takes to propel the liquid up to a given height. I am a refrigeration guy, pressures are my life
It’s liquid rock and very dense so quite a bit of pressure. Not sure of a number.

No. Nothing stops a volcano. They go where they want to.
😮 Renata Dominis
Four phases! I'm not going to be able to memorise its moveset at this rate.
Not gonna lie I thought the magma underneath the summit was starting to solidify but Pele proved me wrong lol
Land o' lakes,wi......here,!
And Kīlauea paused again: end of phase 4. Back to monitoring and waiting :)
🤔... Vermont Nordic Water Skiing ??? ... hope the Von Trapps got to enjoy some road cuts...
We did get one good ski day in before the rain and warm temps came. And we visited the Trapp Lodge.

It’s only a matter of time before lava erupts again in the rift zones eventually!
That could happen in a few months or years. Last year Kilauea erupted twice along the rift zones, one eruption per rift. Plus both were in areas that hadn't seen eruptions in decades.
Pele's hair ?
Likely being created and distributed downwind in small nooks and crannies within crater and perhaps along rim.
This aged well.

Barely a trickle 😅
Hiw many phases are there 5 6 100 bc a volcano from what i know can erupt for 100s of years
