He was in a film made just after the war "This Happy Breed" _ It showed the life of a London family and friends between 1919 until 1939. He was great character actor..

One of the greats for sure. I am watching this directly after watching your video about John Gregson, I commented on that video saying I loved John in the film The Titfield Thunderbolt'. And of course, that was another film that Stanley Holloway starred in. Great Britain had some wonderful actors and made such fantastic films in that era. And what a wonderful, and very fitting place for such a great man to be laid to rest.

I love his monologues; he was a master of the under statement: "We hadn't a stomach pump handy," or in The Lavender Hill Mob: "it's a good job we're honest men, Holland...." My favourite monologue is Three Ha'pence a Foot; absolutel genius with Blackpool tower poking out of Noah's flood and northerners haggling. When we could still laugh at ourselves - when we could still have a laugh...? My wife likes the wonderful Yorkshire Pudding monologue. A gdeat man, Stanley Holloway was the kind of bloke it would be good to go for a pint with. Robin Witting

Just a sign nan..as we were leaving my GT aunt and a couple I'd known all my life appeared ..they look after the church"coming in they asked,we are turning nans page " it's the book of remembrance for those who served during ww2,the day they passed their name age and rank page is open.i hadn't realised...we just looked at each other ..that's a sign if ever I saw one ..The church is always locked ..My youngest was so pleased to see where her ancestors were christened, married, and buried, we took photos.. she still mentions what a sign that was ..With all your visits to churchyards do you have any moments you remember??❤️

That’s so lovely and what a clear sign! I think family history is fascinating - my mum is very into it so luckily I know quite a bit about my ancestors - and I visit them with flowers too! This letters sound so interesting - they are such a gift to have!
Oh! My heart breaks for little Bailey - two of my dogs are brothers and they absolutely adore each other - you just can’t part them - I dread the day when there is no choice! It is early days - but these furry loves capture our hearts and things are never the same when they leave us but our lives are so much better for having loved them! ❤️
Oh yes! Lots have things have happened on my visits - in fact I had a very strange experience on my last video - Carol White - at the end of the visit I had my camera on a small tripod which I placed on the roof of my car - so that I could thank everyone that watched the video - every time I spoke the camera started moving!!!! Nodding up and down - so I checked it and I couldn’t work out why it was happening - it was locked on to the tripod - in the end I got the video I wanted but it took ages!
Another time I went on a return visit to Putney Vale Cemetery - I took some flowers to someone and as I put the last rose in the put a fox jumped out of the tree next to the grave - I was stunned! It stood there and looked at me for a few moments and then went off dancing around the graves and then disappeared into some shrubbery! It was one of the most beautiful sights ever! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you Tracy for your lovely comment and Nooooo!!!! I didn’t know Noel Coward was the station announcer - I’m going to have to watch it again at the weekend for a special listen - as if I needed an excuse 🤭❤️ I just absolutely love that film! I’m so glad you have the lovely memory of watching the film with your mum - films bring us together - they are an experience for sharing! Stanley was versatile - my dad bought his monologues on record years and years ago! It was such a privilege to visit Stanley and Laney’s resting place and I can’t wait to share the next video with you! Thank you so much for your kind words and support - I really appreciate it! Xxxx

Another lovely video Shar. So respectful. "Lavender Hill Mob" & "The Titfield Thunderbolt" for me Shar. (Now, if that sounds like a 'round of drinks, my apologies...but, in hindsight, they sound great for cocktails. ) X

Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. “The Lavender Hill Mob” and “The Titfield Thunderbolt” are indeed classics-such great choices! And I love your idea of turning them into cocktail names; they’d make for some fun and memorable drinks. In fact, that's just reminded me of a drink that my friend enjoys at the Groucho Club, each time she's in London only the name of it is rather naughty but it does contain the word 'Violets' 😅 Cheers to that! X 🍾🍾🍾 xxxx

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre Thanks Shar. (My name is Chris, by the way Shar, "but you may call me darling" as Sir Roger Moore said to Imogen Hassall's character in the pilot episode of "The Persuaders" "Overture." 😆) Glad you like the idea of them becoming cocktails. Maybe we should come up with them, put copyright on 'em, then sit back, and make a fortune...or get totally plastered by drinking them all ! 😜 The only thing I can think of with "Violets" in it, is "Parma"...but I don't think it's that ! I'll have to look it up, (as the dwarf said to the six foot two contortionist ! 😉)

Hi Chris, my Darling! 😂 I love the reference to The Persuaders-Sir Roger Moore had such a charming way with words! and of course I have a special interest in him as he was close friends with Diana Dors particularly when she was married to Dennis Hamilton! 😄 Creating cocktails based on their names sounds like a fun idea, and who knows, we might just end up with some unique concoctions. It sounds like a delightful adventure, whether we end up making a fortune or just enjoying a few drinks! 😜 The violets name I really can't say but I don't think it's what you're thinking lol Thanks for the fun message and the chuckle! xxxx

@@BeautifulBadandBizarre LOL. My pleasure. I'm glad it gave you a chuckle ! I think Sir Roger Moore got on with near enough EVERYBODY. If you haven't done so already Shar, I strongly recommend reading his autobiography, "My Word Is My Bond." WOW, now that was one person I really wanted to meet, but sadly I never did. Fact here, I only found out about a few weeks ago. Where Sir Roger's grave is, a few feet away from him (literally, distance in feet) is where Lewis Gilbert is interred. Lewis Gilbert directed Sir Roger in two of his Bond films, "Moonraker" and most notably, his most famous (and personal favourite of Sir Roger; "The Spy Who Loved Me.") As for when DD was married to Dennis Hamilton? Well, have you read Bob Monkhouse's autobiography "Crying With Laughter"? Interesting, yet scary reading really. X CHRIS.

Thank you for another interesting & insightful video, how amazing he was the only one who sang in My Fair lady, I never would have known. Even now it happens that an actress will mime to a singer, The Greatest Showman is an example. My favourite film with him in has to be Brief Encounter, a wonderful film.

Thank you so much! I love Stanley’s songs in My Fair Lady but they end up on repeat play in my head 🤣 I think given some serious tuition I could possibly act a scene in a film - but I know for a fact no one could ever train me to be a singer 🤭 it’s never going to be my talent and I guess that was the same for Rex and Audrey x I’m 110% with you on Brief Encounter!

Oooh my favourite actor love Stanley Holloway, born in Manor Park not far from where I was born ( but much later ) also his son Julian was very good. Favourite actress has to be Margaret Rutherford. Love the Ealing comedies they certainly don’t make em like they used to ! 😊

They don’t mores the pity! Stanley Holloway was the A lister of his day! One thing that I always marvel at is how hard they all worked back then - Stanley did so much - not just film but stage appearances, events etc - always on the go! A true Star ⭐️ as was the delightful Margaret Rutherford! ❤️

Stanley said in the film The Lavender Hill Mob “Of all sad words of tongue or pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.” Not so for Stanley. He made it happen. 'With a little bit o' bloomin luck..' of course.

I do think she was definitely maybe on the left though 🤭 well Joan Collins was always a stunner - her husband Anthony Newley said there were only three people he ever met with an aura about them - that was Diana Dors, Sammy Davies Jnr and Joan!

A favourite of mine since childhood. I must have about 15 of his monologues near as dammit to word-perfect (including The Lion And Albert, although I've heard that so often now it's become kind of boring).
For me, the best ones are Magna Charta, Brahn Boots (not really a comedy number, although it has some humorous lines in it), and My Word You Do Look Queer. The last is truly timeless, universal humour - you could transfer it to just about any language or culture in any era, and it would still be hilarious. (And I've taken the liberty of sometimes adding an extra verse of my own composition.)

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! I can relate-I grew up listening to my grandad recite Stanley Holloway's monologues too. It wasn't until I was older that I realized he hadn't made them up and that they were actually Stanley's! You have a fantastic collection, and I agree that his humor is timeless. Thank you so much for watching the video! It's very appreciated! xxxx
