    Very helpful. Thanks for making it !!!!

      Well, most truckers don't know how to weld anyway, this is more of a tip for anyone who cuts and welds but hasn't had the opportunity to see or use one of these. I was a welder at one time.

    Your welder was built in Canada, great video, thanks for the demonstration.

    Just used this today on my work apprenticeship. Really cool stuff. I was gouging thick metal “doors” which hold the net of a fish dragger open. When they drag along the bottom of he ocean, they wear slowly and Need to be cut off every once in a while. The steel is about half an inch thick, so it take a decent amount to gouge. Really cool stuff I recommend any welder tries it at least once.

    That's pretty fascinating. I've not heard of this before. I knew little about the various things with welding. Sure does a good job! Well worth watching.

    That's a cool tool Gordon, thanks for sharing that! Also the idea of a Vise Grip grounding clamp is pretty ingenious.

    Used this in an old main Dept I used to be in. It definitely has it’s place but those sparks can be dangerous if you don’t keep an eye on them. Great video. Thanks for sharing🙏🏼.

      Yep, that's why I was picky about which way to blow the sparks.

    That’s a neat tool. I bet it works good in tight spaces you can’t get a grinder in. Thanks for the video

    Does the weld filler burn more easily than the plate itself? I'm vey impressed, sir!nn Many thanks for the edeucation.

    This commonly used to burn out the track pins on dozers and excavators.

    With zip disks being cheap its easy to cut welds with them, we have an air arc at work rarely gets used, never had one in the families welding shop, washing out old welds with a torch was a common practice. Looks like your old trailer has seen some heavy loads in its day with stress cracks. Your old Ideal arc Lincoln welder were good 220 volt welding machines in their day, fairly smooth, decent duty cycle on them.

    • @GordonRobertsonDIY
      @GordonRobertsonDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the trailer has done it's time but I will get a few more years out of it. I do like the old lincoln 250, I also did fix the old lincoln wire feed too, it had a loose wire inside and I put a new liner in it and found a bad o-ring while changing the liner.

      Normally only used in steel production shops, I also use it on heavy equipment to gouge out a crack before welding to assure 100% penetration. Thanks for commenting Chris.

      I think the rods are 1/4" and my welder goes up to 250 on the DC side and I have it pretty much all the way up.

    Hello Gordon, Very useful video. Thnx. Q: i have a little portable welding 200 amp. If i buy one of those arc air handle, can i use it with my machine? 2nd: can i remove welding from 1/16 th in metal plates? Thanks in advance

    • @GordonRobertsonDIY
      @GordonRobertsonDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. This tool works better with a D.C. machine and needs a lot of power to burn even the smallest diameter carbon rods. I would probably just use a grinder with a cut-off wheel for 1/16" metal.

      Check out Arc Air's website. I have their exothermic cutter which only requires an oxygen tank for fuel and their consumable rods for cutting, gouging, plunging and even underwater cutting. Also, you’ll need a small battery to start the rods. Overall, very compact and useful

      I hope you and your people around you are staying well. Yesterday I couldn't finish an electric job on the trailer because of the high wind and cooler temps, I needed to solder something in front at the pigtail plugin but couldn't get it hot enough and I know a propane torch would never stay lit in that wind. I never thought a high watt iron would not work in high wind. I ordered a 500 watt iron from Amazon Prime that should be here in 3 weeks, (so much for Prime these days) Let's see what happens today out there.

    That particular Galaxy is an air Arc gouge which is the best one profax make the gouges as well it is not so good the O-ring stick and cause the gouge to leak
    That particular welding machine is 17 1/2 amps per crank that's the exact same welding machine I learn how to weld on in 1991 and since then I'll burn more carbon Arc rods than I care to count very very handy tool to use get you a good set of earplugs
