"The only reason you're still alive. Is that I find your stupidity.. mildly amusing." Gary Oldman did a phonemonenal job voicing, Lord Shen. And btw, the director said that he was the hardest character Dreamworks ever had to animate.
Anyhow Shen technically defeated himself, Po didn't defeat Shen, rather Shen could've survived, but yeah he didn't allow destiny to decide his fate to have the Panda kill him or whatever. Shen's denial also played a part that he didn't believe in destiny and fate.
Shen's fate in this film reminds us of Oogway's phrase at the beginning of the first film: "One often finds his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it". When Shen hearded that he would be defeated by a panda, he destroys the pandas' village and exterminates them (at least he think he did it), thinking that this will avoid the prophecy, but that is precisely what leads Po to the box of radishes, which leads him to the village to find and be adopted by Mr. Ping, and to live there makes him become a fan of the Furious Five and fall in love with Kung Fu, which leads him to Oogway who names him Dragon Warrior, and everything that leads him in the end to bring about Shen's downfall.
Not only that, but Shen himself is a (black and) white peacock, meaning he himself assumed that the prophecy spoke of a panda, which still resulted in fate guiding Po to end up defeating him, yes, but Shen cut all the ropes on the cannon at the very end, and let it fall on him at the very end Thus, he was defeated by a warrior of black and white

Definitely one of the best sequels of all time. Since I was adopted when I was just days old, and since learning who my Korean birth parents seems completely unattainable (another country, and the likely anonymity of adoption process to begin with), I don't honestly think much about being adopted, but this movie definitely affected me with that plotline, especially given how good James Hong is in the movie. I also agree that the movie really feels like a completely developed idea that connects to and builds on the first one rather than something that people had to come up with after completing Po's journey with the first movie.
I don't know just felt clichéd and forced melodrama that wasn't needed. Pos journey from the pandas was never a point in the previous movie it was a throwaway joke so I don't agree that it builds upon anything. I can understand how this movie affected you due to your experience but that doesn't make it special considering that trope is vastly present. There are hundreds of better sequels.
All 3 Kung Fu Panda movies make up a whole beautiful story. Every movie has it's own key message and they work so well together. Can't wait for you to see the third one!
When you said the final fight with Shen cutting the ropes for the cannon to fall on him was poetic, there's actually another layer to this. The soothsayer's prophecy came true; just differently. Because, it was not Po who killed Shen, it was Shen himself (A warrior of black and white), which is another nod to Oogway's self-fulfilling destiny teaching.
The casting in this entire movie is phenomenal, and while you could have never gone wrong with Gary Oldman as the villain, casting Michelle Yeoh as the soothsayer is by far my favorite. Her range of delivery with voice acting is incredible, and only she could switch from compassionate and wise sage to total dry sarcasm at the drop of a hat, and make it hilarious.
The whole thing with Po and Mr. Ping not talking about Po being adopted is funny but also really wholesome because they never questioned it for a moment. As far as they're concerned they ARE father and son and there's nothing else to it.
Michelle Yeoh may be the goat in this movie, but Gary Oldman is the GOAT in this movie! I love how the themes of the last movie play into this one. Po needing to find inner peace, Shen refusing to let go of the past, etc.
It's kind of amazing how locked in 1 and 2 are. Po's first fight scene in this one is a recreation from the fight scene in his dream. Theme's of Po's sense of identity and the theme Oogway dictated: "One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it." A lot of the first movie can be seen as stand-alone film, but it really does a lot to build up the sequels.
One of the funniest moments I’ll always love in this film was the part where Po’s hand was on fire after redirecting the cannon ball, and despite literally being surrounded by water… he stuffs his hand inside his mouth to put out the flame. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

A verrrry good animated trilogy! I’m intrigued about the coming 4th one but I felt the first 3 had a complete arc already
I heard somewhere years ago.....long before the 4th was even announced, that they originally planned 6 films.
@@darkaoshi27 well that would be a good sign! They have yet to disappoint me so I’m hopeful!
@@darkaoshi27 exactly and that it's gonna be a new trilogy. 1-3 was the Student trilogy and 4-6 will be the Master trilogy
Your silence through the most emotional scenes are reaction enough!
Fun fact...the crocodile is voiced by jean claude van damme!
Hey guys, is the full reaction to kingsman on your patreon? I can only find the TH-cam version on patreon? Thank you
Still waiting for Kung Fu Panda 3 and 4 guys!!!!!
This whole trilogy is peak animation along with the how to train your dragon series!
Oldman probably used a lot of the character he played in Leon The Professional.
Fun fact if you watch this movie from Shen’s pov it’s actually a Shakespearean tragedy
i relate so much to the dynamic of a step or adoptive father, my dad was in my life but once i hit adulthood i saw he was a toxic man for me and when i was 6 i meet the man that would later replace my dad... he was with my mom since i was 8 but once i was an adult i chose to make him my father... i know who i am, im his daughter
One of the things I love about this movie is that you can tell that Po has learned actual martial arts. He has actual skill. This movie has just shown that his skill level, mixed with his inexperience, isn't a direct match for Shen, until he learns how to properly use it
5:56 no... I like my pants. I never go pantsless. Ever
"The only reason you are still alive is that I find your stupidity mildly amusing." Coldest line in the movie that perfectly represents Shen.
24:02 that little tune is basically the theme for the trilogy, glad you picked up on how damn good it is
3 is also amazing! Adding in Brian Cranston and Jk Simmons!!!
Huh, turns out i hadn't seen this one. AMAZING design of the peacock character.
A series that gives life lessons far above an average movie could ever make. Truly legendary
Finally I can sit at home watching this movie and crying my eyes out while not being the only one
“Shen will be defeat by a warrior of black and white”. Shen was wearing black and white in his final scene. He was defeated by himself.
Saw it on internet.
Watching movies with you 2 have been very fun lately. Thanks for the uploads~
When Simone cries.... We ALL cry!!! and conversely, When Simone laughs, we all laugh.
Of course, when George is confused... we ALL are confused. and conversely,
When George understands... we ALL.... understood so long ago... LoL
BEST BAD ASS LINE!!! "I AM PO AND I NEED A HAT"
