    I have this guitar but tired of the 7.25 radius neck and strings choking with a low action that I like to use. Also the truss rod was hassle to set as you have to remove the neck. I tried all kinds of ideas including shimming the neck with a credit card. I eventually stoned the frets and she plays so well with a nice low action now. I've had her around 8 or 9 years now and has the cream single neck pick up.

    Thanks for that man. Thorough as always. Take care. I'm a tele guy and if I could play like you I would buy that guitar.

      Thanks Frank! Yeah, it's an outstanding guitar. But it's in no way a typical tele sound. It's more a jazz guitar. Which fits me also. I have no country licks 😅

    I really like your Kent Armstrong Blades video (with this guitar). How does the KA blade compare to the Chopper and SD Hotrails? Thanks

    • @steffenbrix
      @steffenbrix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Sto. Actually the other video with Kent Armstrong pickups was with another one of these guitars! I used to have two of them 😊
      Chopper - cleanest and "brightest"
      Hotrails - by far the darkest sounding
      The KAs - in between.
      None of those pickups are bright, really...

    Hi Steffen what a great review!! Is your Mike Stern signature relatively heavy or light weight? And what is your opinion on how the weight of the body affects tone in general? Is Mike’s guitar a light or heavy one? Best wishes and keep posting please :)

    • @steffenbrix
      @steffenbrix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funny you mention it.... yes, Mike's guitar is actually a little heavier than the ones they put in production. He told me this. He prefer it a little heavy for a nice and fat tone and sustain. I do too. With this style of guitar at least.
      I would say the body on my model is a small fraction heavier than a typical modern Fender Tele. That's a little vague. I've never weighed a guitar 😁

    • @steffenbrix
      @steffenbrix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aand actually... weight is actually one of the reasons he didn't go with Sadowsky back in the day...

      Thank you Steffen!

    • @joostpaauw
      @joostpaauw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn’t aware that sadowsky was an option back in the years. These guitars are particulairly ligther and more comfortable to play I assume then? I love Chuck Loebs tone!

    Excellent in depth demo and discussion of this model, thanks! Steffen, in your opinion, what is the best modern alternative to the SPX 90 for this type of tone?

    • @steffenbrix
      @steffenbrix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Any quality stereo detune effect and maybe a good compressor pedal.... none of the new gear have the samme warmth - but you can get in the ballpark. Neunaber Chroma Chorus is pretty good as a standalone-pedsl

    • @kennethgumbs2788
      @kennethgumbs2788 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steffen Brix thanks so much for sharing your insight and for the Neunaber recommendation. I get pretty close using the “Pitch Shift” setting of the Yamaha MagicStomp, but it’s not quite the same...

      @@kennethgumbs2788 Kenneth, are you referring to the factory default PitchShift, No 73? Yes, that is not quite the same. But you can use the Sound Editor software to create your own dual pitch shifter patch which directly replicates Mike's SPX90 settings. I just posted the details on the Yamaha Magicstomp collective group on Facebook: facebook.com/groups/311501855552823/permalink/3535991906437119/ Also need to have a delay pedal in front of the MagicStomp that replicates Mike's Boss DD-3 settings. You can find those settings in John Bohlinger's Premier Guitar Rig Rundown with Mike Stern: th-cam.com/video/9gZRrjOA5I8/w-d-xo.html. MagicStomp feeding a stereo amp setup, no reverb on the amps. Pretty much nails Mike's sound to my ears.

      @@Edomsharp9 This is very exciting! I’ve been trying to find a way to replicate Mike’s sound without the spx90 for some time. Thanks for the info, I’ll check it out!

      @@kennethgumbs2788 Let me know if you have questions. You could post them in the Comments section in my post on the Yamaha Magicstomp collective group on Facebook. That group is really helpful for general questions on the MagicStomp and the Sound Editor software.

    Hi there, beautiful guitar, great playing. I’m considering getting one of these 1511ms. Is it a blues guitar? I’ve seen you bluesing with a golden Squier on your channel, would your 1511ms perform as sweet as the Squier? Thanks.

    Great playing, and great sound. Which stings gauges are you using on this gitar - 10-46?

  • @joostpaauw
    @joostpaauw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey there Steffen! Maybe it is nice to show us your Twin Reverb tone settings in combination with your Pacifica 1511? Do you use the normal channel or the vibrato?

    • @steffenbrix
      @steffenbrix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joost
      Would love to, but I actually don't have the Twin Reverbs anymore....

    • @joostpaauw
      @joostpaauw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steffen Brix ok :) what new amps do you use for your Mike Stern sound? Or did you leave that concept behind?

  • @stravaign
    @stravaign 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A question for you Steffen. How have you learned to play the guitar in an academy or are you largely self taught?

    • @steffenbrix
      @steffenbrix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Everything is self taught. I went one year to the fancy Conservatory of Music in Denmark. But didn't really learn anything there I didn't know beforehand. So I stopped after one year.. I just copied from music. No tutorials, no TH-cam and so on 😊

    That's impressive.But apart from having a talent for the instrument I'm sure you must have put in the hours. More power to you.
