    You could try it with acetylene and oxygen. The lecturer in a welder course did that to show us how dangerous that mixture is. Unfortunately some coworkers tried to do that wirhout some ear protection at work, when I was in an apprientice ship.

    This is also a great explanation of why gas leaks can be so dangerous. When gas leaks and collects in your house, if it reaches that mixture point, it would take the tiniest of sparks for a massive explosion to do a bit more than a "bang"

  • @lennutrajektoor

    Ask a better high speed camera from Destin or SloMoGuys and repeat the experiment. I think you need 100000FPS for this to capture - similar to SED Rupert's drop experiment. Resolution will suffer but people will appreciate your efforts :D :)

    I have a rather curious substance discovered from a Oncorhynchus nerka. This is the second time i've come across the substance.
    The substance looks transparent and is rather brittle, its appearance and surface is like a "crystalline quartz structure" or some kind of salt crystal.
    When heat is applied for 5 seconds from a cigarette lighter, it immediately changes colour from transparent to brilliant white.
    I have limited samples if you would like them. Now i intend to look for more.

    for occasional celebratory joviality at remote mining sites we would take the large and thick commercial garbage bags and expand them with the cutting mixture from oxy/acetylene tank, then seal them with electrical tape.
    we would then take the bag, hang it off a stake pounded into the ground, back waaay up and shoot the bag with a flaming arrow. Warning .. this could kill or maim you . hearing and eye protection highly recommended.

    Acetylene and oxygen in a garbage bag equals a few windows blown out at school and a few teachers needing new underwear, along with quite a few pupils........ Was not me, I saw them placing the bag out and ducked behind a concrete pillar just before the window shattered out into the quadrangle, followed by a bellowed "You B_____rs" from the slightly excitable teacher upstairs who had just about had a heart attack.

      Green Silver Depending on your definition, it can be labeled as either a detonation or an explosion.

    • @backfromthedead7925
      @backfromthedead7925 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is both an explosion and a detonation a detonation is a
      Detonation (from Latin detonare, meaning "to expend thunder") is a type of combustion involving a supersonic exothermic front accelerating through a medium that eventually drives a shock front propagating directly in front of it. Detonations occur in both conventional solid and liquid explosives,[1] as well as in reactive gases. The velocity of detonation in solid and liquid explosives is much higher than that in gaseous ones, which allows the wave system to be observed with greater detail (higher resolution).
      An extraordinary variety of fuels may occur as gases, droplet fogs, or dust suspensions. Oxidants include halogens, ozone, hydrogen peroxide and oxides of nitrogen. Gaseous detonations are often associated with a mixture of fuel and oxidant in a composition somewhat below conventional flammability ratios. They happen most often in confined systems, but they sometimes occur in large vapor clouds. Other materials, such as acetylene, ozone and hydrogen peroxide are detonable in the absence of oxygen; a more complete list is given by both Stull[2] and Bretherick.[3]
      Processes involved in the transition between deflagration and detonation are covered thoroughly for gasses by Nettleton.[4] If the explosion went supersonic then it propagated a shock front , the torch was the deflagration and the rapid explosion was the detonation ..
