Just a question about the access hole to the top of the fuel tank, if that is plastic and heaven forbid if there is ever a fire (behind the 'fire wall') that plastic cap is not ideal. If you can find a metal solution down the raod that would be a better idea. Search stainless "Inspection Port" or "Deck Plate" and you will see exactly what you need, they are used in marine applications.

So excited for this series. This channel is fantastic. It represents one of my favorite things about the internet. I mean, they're going to drive around the PLANET and we get to come with them... In a sense. Inspiring and awesome, makes me want to travel and go on adventures.
Can I just say that buying a volkswagen bus and roadtripping has been a dream of mine since I was a child, it really is just and incredible thought and this channel really inspires me to go after that dream and makes me realize that its attainable, thank you
Leah's words about the holidays brought me to tears, I binged watched you and your family. I had to help by joining, you guys (and Alaska) are fantastic. I want to be there with you in spirit every step of the way. Thank you for doing this, you're living my dream.
No matter hard the work maybe, how far the end goal seems, you can be rest assured that all this preperation work, and the foundation building of your epic adventure, will pay out later on. Wishing you both the best of luck :-) Paul
Continuous driving from the UK you're looking at under / over a year but stopping & experiencing places I would say anywhere between 3 or 6 years but what's the rush anyway just sit back & enjoy the culture & experience 👍🏻
It is so amazing how tenacious this dude is--- I've seen almost all of his terrible break down stories, and engine rebuild stories.. and now-- it looks like he found somebody just as tenacious as he is! This is going to be a great story... not to mention the editing, and pacing has always been amazing, and it just keep on getting better!
Working on old cars/kombis in less than desirable places can be a drag but I've created some of the best memories of great people who stepped up and helped me too.
Hey you three! Brand new Patron here, I'm so excited to finally be able to contribute a tiny part to the Kombi project. And as soon as I can book some videography clients I'd love to support even more. Thank you Ben and Leah for your dedication to not only your journey but to this content that keeps getting better with every creation. You've been a huge inspiration for my own series and this particular episode felt like it was over in the snap of a finger. So incredibly engaging. If you'd ever like some help working on the Kombi, or filming and editing, I'd be thrilled for a stint of that wherever in the world you are. Leah - great thing on the new engine is the cooling fan - on the end of the crank so the fan belt just drives the alternator (or generator) so no more fiddly shims adjusting fanbelt and if it breaks your engine will NOT cook!

So A couple things I want to point out. 1 body filler is not made to plug holes It's for filling wrinkles/dents ect... the holes need to be plated and or fill welded. 2: the sound mat at 30% coverage will keep the panels from resonating but will not keep engine and road noise out. for sound proofing you need to completely cover the panels.
Good luck wit your daunting project. I just converted a new cargo van into a travel van. Even without an refurbishing it was a task. I can only imagine what you are going through. One it will be over and another journey begins. Enjoy.
Guys, they're not cheap but please fit an automatic extinguisher in the roof of your engine bay. It will turn any potential trip-ending nightmare into something way more manageable. Took me ten minutes to fit to my bay window.

Good luck!!! I owned a couple VW’s in the 60’s and 70’s and I never had vehicles that I got so tired driving than the VW. Some times I thought I could jump out and push to get it to go faster. It maybe nostalgic to have a VW but I really hope you two know how to work on the engine because they really don’t go very far on an engine. Such a cool episode. That's a nice type IV engine you guys have there. In my opinion I'd get that thing working and you'll be considerably happier in the long run. It's a bit more reliable than what you had in kapito and you'll find that you're oil temps, power band, fuel consumption, etc are more consistent and reliable. I'm in the process of rebuilding my 69' 912. Similar engine with a number of differences, but when you get those things running, they never want to stop. Good luck on your travels and if you ever need a work space or some tools by NYC, let me know.
When i read "Skinner Classics" at the beggining of every episode i always hear superintendent Chalmers in my head :p, great episode as always..part of the fun of traveling is getting prepared :D
A recaution for everybody. If you got a old ride, make sure the brake shop or check the fuel line with a hand light. Midas over price me I when to another shop .and Midas miss a rusted area of my back brake line underneath and behind the drum , water drip down right. Was really bad and in the next 4-5 yr would have left me with the petal to the floor when I needed to stop hard. Old ride will rust and need a close spot light good check .
Hey Guys! I just signed up and joined the crew on the $25 dollar tier. I tried looking for a way to send you a DM but didn't see one. So I'll do it here. First of all thank you so much for all the hard work you both put into this content. I absolutely love it. I can't tell you how many times I've watched your videos and been completely inspired to do my own (smaller) adventures. I cannot thank you enough for everything you do for us. I know my membership includes you sending me stuff but I know you guys get crazy busy. Don't worry about that part for me. I'm happy to just contribute. Second, I live in Vegas. If you find yourself around here you have a free place to stay. I'm also a former mechanic and would be glad to help you with your Bus if you should need it. There are lots of amazing places to see in this area if you should feel so inclined. My profession now is Fire Protection. I would very much like to give you a couple of Fire extinguishers for the Kombi as a way to further support you both. I have regular dry chemical but I was thinking I could also do Halotron. This extinguisher leaves zero residue if you should need it. Lemme know where I can ship and they are yours. Thanks again for your content. I can't wait for the next video update.
Hey Ben, Wow, thanks so much for joining the Kombi Crew, we're stoked to have you on the team. We'll send you a direct message on Patreon as a reply. Cheers, Leah
I'm remodeling a house. Electric, plumbing, roof, kitchen, walls, garage, everything is 50 years old, floor was rotten and sagging 6 inches in one spot. One board, one wire, one pipe at a time. Have fun. I'm getting rid of the house when done though.
There has been so much shit you guys went through, jeez. It is fascinating! Thank you so much for producing this content, your adventures are better that any netflix series. Hope one day I will also be able to just leave everything behind and go meet the real challenge outside the comfort zone. Keep it up!!
the hole he's referring to is for the sink & propane heater that would have originally been on the bus and they aren't using any more. There are no drain holes on the floor of a vw bus.

Second,
I live in Vegas.
Please make the videos LONGER!!! Love your videos
Best of luck through all your new travels.
thanks, we're going to need it
Good people for good cause. wish you the best and I hope you can stop by our country Saudi Arabia in your drive across the world. Welcome!
Loving the new series!
Cheers Maksym - Good luck
I think i am addicted to your videos!
I'm binging again!! ahhhhhh so happy.
But those holes are needed to drain moisture out of the floor?
the hole he's referring to is for the sink & propane heater that would have originally been on the bus and they aren't using any more. There are no drain holes on the floor of a vw bus.
Thank you for the videos, I am working on a 1981 Chevy van to travel around the USA
Yes! Long episode. Love it :-)
Amazing production!
It will all come together keep up the great work merry Christmas
yeah this is going to get good!
Didn't know about the lack of access to the fuel pump, luckily the modern T2 Brazilians have them..
Awesome you guys... Keep it up, it is so much better to watch your channel rather than Netflix. Any plans to visit Florida.
Yes Florida is on our route! :)
@@KombiLife Awesome!!!! would love to meet you guys. I live in Tampa Bay area. Please share travel plans when possible :-)
I love watching your TH-cam channel, feels like I am watching some high rated Netflix Series program. Keep me looking forward to my Friday morning all the way in South Korea.
Just noticed the filming date in the comment section. Kudos
