I'm a big Ruger fan boy and was set to buy the security 9 compact until I saw the G2C and it wasn't even the price point that made me decide to buy it over the Ruger. I liked the fact that it was a comfortable three finger grip. it had 12 plus 1 over the 10 plus 1 Security 9 and all the reviews I saw on the G2C are positive. Having shot both of them I can tell you I much prefer the G2C. As for the Shield I think the two different magazines are a drawback, because if you do need a second mag It give you a different grip on the weapon not something I want to think about when my life depends on it.

One Sheriff bought his wife a Glock 19, which is a nice gun. She bought a PT111 G2 to carry instead. He was okay with it. He asked wheres the new Glock?
She told him she traded even for the Taurus, lol! She was kidding but loves to fired up her spouse!

My comment is almost exactly the same as yours. Except, I replace your Glock 17 with my Glock 21 Gen 4. My G2C which I purchased a few weeks ago is my third Taurus. I’ve put about 200 or so rounds through it without a single failure. The pricing of the G2C is one of the biggest mysteries I’ve come across in a long time. Taurus could easily ask $100 more and I still would feel like it’s underpriced.

I own two G2s and one G2c. My wife carries one of the G2s, my middle sone the other, and I have the 2C.My oldest son owns a Shield and a G2. I have shot his Shield, and I prefer my G2s because they feel better in my hand and I shoot better with them. My two G2s I purchased for $189, and the 2C I bought for $229 because I had a gift card to Cabelas, otherwise I could have gotten it a bit cheaper.I am about to buy another 2C for my 20 year old daughter..so obviously I trust them. I have not had a single issue with ANY of the three Taurus pistols and they have shot steel, brass, and aluminum with out a single failure of any kind. I cannot justify paying more for a pistol when the Gs work so damn well. I do carry a Smith and Wesson SD40VE in my vehicle and I love it too....however I only paid $200 for that one. Not dissing the Shield, its a good firearm, and I am not dissing Smith and Wesson. The G is a better value and is a great pistol.

I looked at what other guns they had, and the had a used (nearly new) M&P Shield 9mm for $225.00 😮 Couldn't believe it. Got it today. I've been carrying the PT111 G2 for almost 4 years. As another viewer pointed out Sig mags work.
As far as accessories Lakeline has springs, guide rods, sights, etc.
I do like the G2 ergos. Trigger is not a problem for me. Also, as Chris pointed out in his comment Taurus has stepped up Q.C. and not they are building a plant in the U.S.A. to manufacture firearms. So the "Made in the U.S.A" is a good thing!
Taurus get bashed a lot. I find it is usually by some, not all folks, that don't buy budget guns?
Me, I'm totally comfortable with carrying mine as my E.D.C.

I originally bought the G2c for the price. It's my first handgun. I don't have a lot of extra money, so the price was the determining factor. Now that I have it, and have used it, I think it's great. It works just fine and it has a good round capacity. I've never had to draw on anyone to protect myself, but if that ever happens, I'd rather have 12 (or 13) rounds compared to 7 (or 8). I love the trigger reset. When I shoot, I hold the trigger back during recoil then let it go forward to reset position for the next shot. Better able to put the next shot on target with less trigger pull the second time. I saw nothing about the Smith & Wesson to make me think I made a mistake in my purchase. The other guns are probably excellent as well, but for the price, you can't beat the G2c.

We have all been conditioned to believe that if we aren’t paying at least $400 for a handgun, even the sub-compact variety, then we must be getting junk. I have the m&p full size and the shield, but I always find myself grabbing the shield when I walked out the door it's (and I'm sure other guns of it's size) just so more comfortable to carry around than a big clunky pistol that feels like your carrying a brick around.

G2C more magazine capacity more capabilities with smoother follow up shots being more accurate, and best of all half the price of the Shield with a plus on all things the shield offers.

  • @Predalien195
    @Predalien195 6 ปีที่แล้ว +50

I feel like most people would go with the Shield for brand name reasons and the assumed quality that comes with it. However, when you look at the size of the Shield and take that into consideration, the G2C is a much better gun for carry due to the capacity. One advantage of the G2C is it take Sig P226 magazines, so if you've already got one of those around or want to source more magazines it's a good route to go.
I've got an older PT140 G2, but aside from the lock being removed the G2C is pretty much the same design. And honestly the Taurus guns are pretty reliable these days. Their quality control has gone up tremendously over the years and they are no longer just producing cheap guns that dont work, they are kind of like the Kia and Hyundai of the firearm world. They had a rep for producing cheap stuff with good warranties, but now they produce stuff that has quality but is still quite affordable.
I just feel when you factor in everything considering the Shield just isnt the greatest buy when it comes to a single stack sub compact. It's the size of a double stack sub compact, so why wouldnt you go with more rounds for the same size? Like you mentioned, it has provisions for a light/laser, which while not super important to me personally I know it's a big deal to a lot of people. But the price split is where the G2C really pulls ahead... Now, I know some people recommend switching to Lake Line LLC guide rods and recoil springs to keep your Taurus from breaking, and while I've never had the need for the products myself, the price split difference is something to consider because you could get the gun plus the upgrades for less than the Shield stock in the box.
All in all, I'd say go with whatever makes you happy or whatever you feel is best. But for carry, the G2C wins in my eyes. For the range, the G2C wins due to capacity. And for home defense, like you said... the provisions for a light would make it a superior choice there. I suppose if the need for super deep concealment was there the Shield would work better due to weight restrictions and with a flush fit magazine, but there's plenty of better options over the Shield for the same task. So... All in all I think the G2C is the clear winner. I think people are starting to see Taurus is not producing crap and actually giving them a chance now.

+CRS Firearms Ever consider a feature length video? I mean I know some people arent into that kind of thing but I find often things cant always be covered in 5 minutes or so ya know? It may turn into a bit of a rant but if you do what things like keep a piece of paper with bullet points for topics of conversation and give each point enough time to fully flesh it out then that could work.
Some stuff like the whole it taking P226 magazines is something you just got to read around about and try it out(how I learned my PT140 takes P229 magazines).

I looked at both of these but in the end the old G2 Taurus won out, 12-1.... in the same profile. I liked the extra weight the Taurus had as well, it gave it a better first shot feel (in my opinion). I got another brand's 17 round mag as my back-up carry mag. The Shield and the LC9S would both need 4 mags to get to 30.

Now that I finally have both guns I can comment. There are pros and cons both ways, but right now I am leaning to the Taurus (I've got the PT111 G2). The G2 is an easier gun to run and has the loaded round indicator and a more positive safety. I can use my index finger (I'm a lefty) to release the slide; whereas I can't do it with the Shield. It also grips and aims better. The G2 is like the Taurus revolvers from the eighties that were "almost" as good as the S&W's but not quite the same quality. LOL - I wish I still had some of those old Taurus revolvers from back then.

I’ve owned both as well. I’ve found that I was far more accurate with the g2c than the shield and so was 4 friends and family members I let shoot both weapons. The g2c isn’t built as refined as the shield but I’m at 700rds now with no failures so Who cares!! The g2c is half the price, has double strike capabilities, better trigger reset, holds significantly more rounds without adding any substantial size, is compatible with pt 111 mags as well as sig 226 mags and at least to me and a mountain of people on youtube has been proven ultra reliable even with crap ammo. Never been a Taurus fan but it’s a fine firearm and in my opinion a better choice

Ditto. G2C is my first carry gun, to explore the concept. For me, much better ergo than the Shield, which feels like holding a 1x4 board.
Initially, the size of the G2C was intimidating to carry, and wondered if I made a mistake and should have found a smaller single-stack. But after sticking with it, I agree with some of the online pundits who recommend double-stack subcompacts for new ccw, to prove to yourself that it really is (surprisingly) possible to get used to it. And then maybe add a slim single-stack or pocket gun to the pile for really light summer wear. ("Super-carry".)

Allen Helton I carry the PT111 G2. Never even consider a failure will occur when you need it! It would be like lying in bed and wondering if you car will start because you had to replace the battery a month ago?
Sig, S&W, Glock, Ruger, etc. can ALL have an issue. Kimber, finely crafted pistol, that in my opinion ia a really unreliable gun! Is it a fine, crafted and pretty gun, yup! These darn .45 a.c.p. semi autos having a huge struggle with different mags? However, they are pretty, lol!

I agree and would also carry he G2c over the shield any day and i do. The G2c is just a better gun and like i said in another post, the Shield scares me as i have had some problems with double feeds. I am over 5000 rounds with the G2c and not one problem at all and i love it. It is perfect for carry, its light and just feels awesome in my hand. The stippling is so good i can shoot with one hand, i could hardly hang on to my Glock 43 with 2 hands as it would jump out of my hands. This gun shoots way better and is fast becoming at least by the post one huge gun for Taurus, and it is deserving too!!

I know that if I somehow came across $6-700 to get me a really nice brand new low to mid tier Sig Sauer and it gave me a boat load of issues,I wouldn't exactly be very thrilled, knowing that I could find something between $2-300 used or new that would perform more reliably. However,I will admit that every major brand of firearm is capable of producing the occasional lemon. For now,all I have is an old 20 gauge Mossberg pump strictly for keeping around the house that seems to work just fine, but you can't legally carry a shotgun with you on the street wherever you may go,especially considering the fact that I live in a conceal carry only state.

    • @erebus38
      @erebus38 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

That specific gun is pretty much defined as a cheap American made Glock knock off based upon it's design, but who am I to complain if it works just as reliably and besides,I've also heard that you can get an aftermarket trigger kit that will more than compensate for the stock S&W trigger if it doesn't suit you. As long as it doesn't look like Hi-Point or "Brick" as I like to call it and it's not so heavy and massive then it seems just fine with me. Heck,I'd even go with the the double action only SCCY CPX-2 and would probably be just fine with something like that!

  • @dwaynebeavers2088

Taurus G2C round capacity and external safety is what sold me and the price point also and the hand grip with holding it, because I have a SA 9 but I can't get a good grip on it and I have to get a new firing pin put in it and that's when I got the G2C and it was a trade-in and the guy only shot 20 rounds thru it and if it wasn't for it being there at the time I was going to buy a Sccy's CPX1 because of the external safety, because at the time when Glock came out without the external safety quite secret service agents were shooting themselves in the foot, because they were used to pulling out there sidearm with their finger on the trigger that's when they started retraining everyone in law enforcement to keep the index finger off the trigger.

I have been thinking for some time now to buy a dedicated pistol for the truck that was budget priced but reliable. The agency I now work for is not LE so I leave my gun in the truck. There has been a real heavy run of vehicle break ins in my town and they are expert at grabbing cash and guns. I have gone back and forth on the Taurus but it sure seems like there is a lot of good going for it. And replacing a $200 Taurus is a lot less painful than a vintage Hi Power, which I now carry.

My first gun was a taurus pt709. Mine only had one magazine in box (was supposed to have 2). Failed to feed every round after the first 50 shots. Finish was pretty terrible and this is actually an important consideration on an every day carry weapon; they see a lot of wear and exposure to moisture. I wanted to love the gun but learned a very important lesson. There's a reason for their reputation. Customer service was terrible. Gave me some bs about certain mags made in different countries wont work on every 709. Mind you we're talking strictly about pt709 FACTORY mags purchased from their website. Once you purchase a higher quality handgun you will notice the difference immediately. Not even necessarily more expensive. You can pick up the original Shields for sub 300 NEW.
I would recommend Taurus revolvers, because those are established and widely known to function well. I would never bet my life on a Taurus semiauto.

Despite my misgivings about the 9mm I now own a G2C in that caliber. BECAUSE I don't trust the 9mm, regardless of bullet design, weight, or ammo manufacturer, all that much I also ordered a third magazine and purchased three boxes of "premium self defense ammo" as well as four boxes of FMJ ammo so that I could practice as much as possible with my new purchase in anticipation of placing it into service as my "summer carry". I must confess a twinge of caliber jealousy but was tickled that you, and I hope many others, have scooped up G2Cs that were still on store shelves, in the superior (in the real world...Been there done that, as well as have many of my past and present fellow LEOs have learned from bitter experience.) .40S&W chambering.

The G2c feels better in my hand. I have small hands and I still had to buy a rubber grip to fatten up the grip on the Shield. The other issue was that I had the first shield, which had a solid, smooth plastic grip. This one seems to be much more thought out and practical. I love my G2c though. Actually sold my shield to buy my Taurus. It was accurate right out of the box and I haven’t had a malfunction so far out of 500 rounds. Plus, the G2c comes in different colors (all of which are practical dull colors). That second strike capability would go a long way with the Shield. For some reason, out of a number of different types and brands of ammo, I experienced a lot of light primer strikes with my Shield that I haven’t experienced with my G2c. Plus, I love the idea that in such a compact firearm, I can still carry 12+1 rounds without buying extensions. Even with aftermarket extensions the most you’ll get out of a Shield is 10+1. And good luck finding a +2 extension for less than $25-$30. I honestly believe that I made the right decision for myself in going to the G2c. I’m not saying the Shield is a bad firearm, but it wasn’t for me, that’s for sure. A lot of people complain about the first initial trigger pull of the G2c, and I get it, but you’re not gonna find many firearms with the same awesome reset. That reset makes me smile every time at the range.

It was a range gun, so keep that in mind, but I ran the M&P and my G2 back to back, and even if the Smith had been half the price of the G2 I wouldn't take it. It sounds weird, but it just felt...cheap. I know Taurus has a bad rep, and I went into owning one expecting it, but I've been pleased so far. If you can rent one somewhere (no range near me rents out Taurus guns), do it. I think you'll be pleased. Run it back to back with some of its competitors, and you might be surprised.

@@ramsinc5521 Personally, I did not get the G2S, but those who may buy it include person's from commie states with magazine capacity restrictions, and those who are looking for a slimmer and lighter, more concealable single stack. Not everyone wants the extra weight and bulk of more rounds. Personally, I carry to capacity with one in the chamber and at least one extra magazine. But I became accustomed to bearing weight and gear in the military, so I'm not bothered by it.

The G2C is probably more comparable to an M&P9C since the Shield is a subcompact. A better comparison would've been with the G2S but I agree that the Shield is more aesthetically pleasing.

I got my Taurus G2C for precisely the reason you showed. I got a Mossberg Maverick 88 12 gauge for home defense (with the 18" barrel) , but even it was a bit unwieldy in the small doorways and hallway of my home. So I wanted a backup gun and nightstand gun that later on I could use to get a concealed carry permit with as well (and to carry). The G2C ticked off all the checkboxes on all the reviews I've looked at (with emphasis on reviews from average users and not just big youtubers).
So far I'm quite happy with it, but I do need to get a good flashlight for it. I'll likely later on replace the sights with fiber-optics sights for better performance in low light, but overall I can't complain. Definitely a huge step up from the Hi-point C9 that I almost decided to buy. (Nothing wrong with the Hi-point if that's all someone can afford though). I also thought about buying a Taurus Spectrum, but quickly realized that the Spectrum was primarily a carry gun and not ideal as a home defense gun. Plus it's .380 which is more expensive and doesn't have nearly the massive range of ammo types available like you can find in 9mm.
The only thing I'm a little wary of on the G2C is the safety on it after hearing about issues with malfunctioning safeties that older model PT-111's have had. I'm hoping they corrected those issues, but I'm practicing using the secondary safety every time I unholster it at the range and when dry-fire practicing at home with it. That way it becomes muscle memory for me to flip off the safety when I draw it. I also love the memory point pads on it which is one thing you forgot to mention.
So yeah, overall quite an impressive little pistol.

I own both (actually a PT111 G2 which is the same thing as the G2C but with the slide lock) I like both. I carry both. The S&W is a little slimmer and easier to conceal, which is an issue where I live because it is a very warm climate most of the year and very light clothes are the order of the day. They have both been 100% reliable. I have had the Taurus since 2015 and the S&W since 2016. They both have cycled perfectly with any ammo I have used. I do not normally use steel case ammo, but a friend had some trouble in his Taurus with some TulAmmo and gave the rest of the box to me. They worked in my gun, but I only had about 30 to test. I also own a Beretta Nano and a Kahr CM9, Browning Hi-Power and a Tisas Hi-Power clone round out my 9mm choices. All have been 100%. Beretta recommends 124 gr. bullets or heavier for the Nano, so I use 124 FMJ NATO loads for practice in all the guns.
The Taurus is an excellent, outstanding, value for the money. Adjustable sights, 12 rounds, multiple strike ability, concealable size and perfect function. Trigger? Not the greatest, but for a CC gun, perfectly good. Accuracy? Really very good. None of these guns are a match winning target gun, but the accuracy of the Taurus is far beyond "minimum" acceptable. I own a lot of guns because I can and because I enjoy shooting them. If I had limited funds and had to choose one, I would go with the Taurus and never look back. My ONLY complaint is that the Taurus has WAY aggressive texturing on the grip and it is abrasive to my tactical "muffin top". If I carried it every day I would do something to tame that. The texturing is great for shooting and getting a grip on things, but uncomfortable rubbing on bare skin. FWIW, the "2.0" S&W Shield is the same. My "1.0" Shield is very comfortable to carry and still textured enough for a good grip.
    Thanks, great video!

I'm kinda of a rough gun owner. I don't spend my time oiling my glock 2 times a day and polishing it all week. I used my glock to hammer nails(the but end) dropped it in the pond, left in a John boat for days, and just rough and tough farm life. After the glock fell apart, the g 2c took it's place, and to this day, works fine.

My point is that I don't buy a 70 thousand dollar 4 wheel drive truck just so I can spend my time bragging about what it could do,if I wasn't scared to take it off road and scratching it, or washing it and never hit the mud. I don't read the directions on tooth paste or ketchup bottles. There's always a gun outside, somewhere, that I can get to. And if there's a child on my property, in the middle of nowhere, that would be bad parenting. My point is simply this, if your going to be a gun of mine, you got to be tough. And this little jewel seems to fit right in, so far

Please explain, exactly, how you used a polymer frame pistol (the butt end) with a polymer magazine to drive nails. Please. And if you took the polymer mag out, what did you hit the nail with? I really am interested in precisely how you did that. Please explain.
Explain precisely how the Glock "fell apart" What does that mean? Exactly. What part or parts "fell" off? Do you hammer nails with the G2C? Are you saying the G2C is a better hammer than the Glock is?
I don't own a Glock, but I do own a G2C and a S&W Shield. I have never used either for a hammer. Doing that with a loaded gun would be FUCKING STUPID (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) and would eventually end up with a result Charles Darwin could predict, and doing it with an unloaded gun would seem impossible since there is nothing there but a big hole when the magazine is removed. Nor have I left them in a John boat, but I do not oil them every day or polish them (polish polymer and flat finish coatings on stainless steel slides?) Neither has been dropped in a pond, but I suspect they would survive because....SO WHAT!?!?!?!?!? Dropped in a pond? That is hardly a torture test.
I look forward to your detailed answers.
Oh...and imaginary truck stories are not invited. Please stick to the particulars of using guns as hammers and the benefits of the G2C as a hammer.

I did not realize it had 2nd strike capability so I ejected and fired the remaining rounds no problem. I am not sure if it was me and that LONG trigger pull on the first round or if it was the gun. bottom line the Taurus g2c has no competition right now in the concealed carry Market the only thing comprable would be Glock 19 which is way bigger and harder to conceal or the Sig p365 which are having a lot of problems and the Taurus cost 1/3 the price and has more features like double strike capabilities and external safety.. I have more expensive guns but I absolutely love the Taurus g2c and that thing is my everyday carry... I just finished putting a thousand rounds through it and it runs flawless you can shoot any type of 9 mm out of there... I also have a $600 steyer.. and that thing won't cycle 115 grain 9mm.. get my $200 Taurus shoots everything.. this gun is literally one of the best deals on the market right now.. it not only Compares to more expensive guns but it's way better

I have no regret about this purchase, I only put 100 rounds down range after purchase of the G2C but at 15 yards the only pistol I had better groups with was my Beretta 92s.
