"Meet A Jazz Angel" Bret Primack had three encounters with Mr. Space is the Place and here, he details an interview, a TV appearance, and a reunion that took place on a train from Chicago to New York. Sun Ra (born Herman Poole Blount, legal name Le Sony'r Ra; May 22, 1914 -- May 30, 1993) was a prolific jazz composer, bandleader, piano and synthesizer player, poet and philosopher known for his "cosmic philosophy," musical compositions and performances.

I saw a movie many years ago about Sun Ra. It was hilarious and subversive. At the time I think I was in Detroit at the Artist's
Workshop as the house drummer. That was a very touching period for jazz.

    • @JazzVideoGuy

The movie you saw was probably Space is the Place.

@@JazzVideoGuy That was it. I saw it in a theatre on Polk Street, San Francisco. With a date! She didn't get it. I thought it was very funny. I had, by that time, tracked down Ornette and my "new thing" jazz career was about to go nowhere. Thanks for the quick response, Bret. You are a national treasure.

The film is here on TH-cam. Quote from intro: "It's after the end of the world. Don't you know that yet?" I'm about your age, Bret, a drummer/keyboardist with some great stories. I hope I can share them with you by some means or other.

Certainly some of my most colorful concert memories include the Archestra, they never failed to entertain whether in free flight moments or semi-synchro phrases. Wonderful stuff. I am sure Sun Ra is traveling the spaceways from planet to planet. Great video as usual. Thanks

Dude Kudos to you for presenting Sun-Ra in a positive light. Most of the stuff you show is...consonant (for lack of a better word). Man, I wish more people had a broader stroke...a greater sense and appreciation in the way that you have it. This was fun to see. Thanks so much for your appreciation and honesty. We will carry on!
