The Roland Fantom G8 is the flagship model of the 2 Roland music workstations, namely the G6, and this l the Fantom G8. Whilst both models share many facets of the technology used in the creation of this series of music workstations, the G8 has a few extra tricks up its sleeve ....
Firstly it has a larger, (8.5" colour) more user friendly GUI (Graphic User Interface) - otherwise known as a screen to the likes of you and I. Other additional bells and whistles include a new sound engine, a new audio/MIDI sequencer with 128 MIDI tracks and 24 Audio tracks and the ability to route multiple effects to each sequencer part (up to 16 effects).
It also has a USB interface so that you can connect a mouse for a more practical way of clicking around the screen. The Fantom G8 can be expanded by the addition of up to 2 x ARX expansion boards and holds up to 256Mb of memory, it also accomodates external instruments by having on-board XLR Mic and quarter inch jack inputs for the audio track recording facility ...
You can load VST, AU and RTAS plug-ins for use with Cubase, Logic or Pro-Tools and the USB addition means that the data can be dumped to a PC or Mac. The outer casing of the unit has been designed with a more rugged and robust feel so it should easily withstand the rigours of the road ...

i found 4 srx sounds in the sounds list. thats hardly loads of srx sounds.
I sure hope they come out with a new Fantom to replace the G8. They need a new one with
more memory to do even more. Would be great to put some V-synth GT feature in it aswell.
Build in the super natural sound and do away with those boards.
Great review and a very cool keyboard, but I'm gonna stick with my Korg Kronos X :P

This is the beginning of the end of the workstation. At this point the customer is being betrayed for money!
This is not a real fantom! Its a new type of hybrid; This is a combination of false marketing and corruption; a sell out for quick money.
If the company thought about their customers, This proves that is never true....
I suppose someone realized this is a computer hooked up to keys; thus the life of the workstation is over.
Im assuming coming will be nice and created something for the few! However, it will never improve.. Much like the motive! Its 14 years old! and nothing has changed.
This is not a fantom. Just as the Jupiter 80 was never a real Jupiter. This company is deceiving people to make a quick buck...
