Dan Reed was something very special for those who were touched by his music. if you dont get it , thats sad. YOu missed a very unique and wonderful artist.
So much energy, so much love, so very amazing. I just love this live version, it harnesses what was DRN in their prime, a very underrated band before their time. Dan is still amazing now and am fortunate enough to have met him a few times. Such a strong spirit held within that man - long may he be around to share the shine he gives out.
They`re good friends of mine.Did some percussion and back ups on Ritual in the studio with them! One of the best live shows ever, and great guys too!Melvin B. where you at Baby!Get at me!!
It's almost disappointing how they didn't end up as bit as Bon Jovi, AC/DC, or even The Stones. Their sound is just simply amazing. That being said, however, I believe with the right promoting and work, the DRN, or even just Dan by himself with his new solo music and his solo renditions of the old DRN classics, would EASILY go multi-platnium in no time. All it would take is one little push and you'd see Ritual, Rainbow Child, etc right at the top of the Top 40s. The potential is still there
Thanks for this video, these guys smoked! Saw them in New Orleans at city park. They rocked ass! Super nice too, got to meet them and get pictures, they couldn't have been Nicer. Dan is Super Nice, Killer talent. Most don't know He plays Guitar better than the Lead Guitarist! God Bless Him. They should re-release Ritual with some Killer chicks dancing with Dan. He could happen Today. He was just too ahead of His time for then I guess.
heylads, thanks for the info. I forgot who he was. I remember his local show and then he went and hit the big time. Man, it's been to long since I've been back to Washington "Damed Navy should have put me on the West Coast" and to long since I heard the Dan Reed Network.
they are back..touring europe thru 2013 and into 2014..new album soon too...and sounding as good as ever... and as someone said below... I was at the Manchester international 11 gig way back then.and yes it was awesome..I have it on tape !! lol remember tapes?
@TheNewsoul2, Yeah, I think DRN was a band that was just too ahead of their time. How cool would it be if they got back together? I bet it they did, it would be like no time had passed at all...chemistry-wise. I never had the opportunity to see them live back in the day, unfortunately.
I could never describe their musical style. Were they funk metal, pop rock, progressive pop? The keyboards with lead guitar is awesome Headphones are a must when listening to their Cd's.
Dan Reed Network were excellent, especially their third album. They were just about to go massive and Dan decided to shave his head to prove that his image didn't matter - turned out to be the most expensive haircut in history as it cost him his girlie following and his sales. Terrible shame as they were excellent live and on record.
Now I know what they look like. I had this Cassette in my Car since the late 80s, Never saw them but I played this tape to death. Ritual and get to you.not may bands went this direction , Mothers finest to name a few> Great stuff, too bad FUNk rock didn't really catch on.. love it.
The drummer the guitar player the bass player and even the singer although maybe not intricate story lines and maybe not absolutely the best but most definitely never the worst these were actually very talented people and for one reason or another they had almost never had publicity but they were very very good musicians and just as good as any other thing that was possibly mainstream it says if they were unheard of you never heard of them on the radio or on the LA talk show you never heard of them on MTV you never heard of them being on tour it seems they were seems like their promoters were just disrespecting them or not fulfilling their promise to even promote them and yet they were just as good regarding musicianship as just about any other '80s mainstream band and yet it says if they didn't exist thank goodness TH-cam and Google actually remember good musicians and it actually hurts me regarding spiritually and my heart that people that were this talented and this good seem to be almost invisible to the world although I remember them and I know a good musicians when I see them just as good as all the rest of them yet almost completely non-existent or vanished to the mainstream it disappoints me regarding an art and capitalism and the first amendment to describe musicianship or art at all
Man, I used to live in Washington State when that guy had a local TV show out of Seattle. What ever happened to that talk show host ? What was his name again ?
Bon Jovi was a machine, and the money Polygram spent to promote them came back tenfold because they were already established and on their way. When Bon Jovi came through in 1983, it was easier to get a record on the radio and on MTV. They shared the "label stable" with Def Leppard and BMG still got both of them airplay because independent promotion was still fairly uncommon. However, in 1988, no money, no airplay...except in the NW.
Another classic example of a GREAT band that did not get their FULL PROPS because, if you knew the story, it was the STUPID record execs that didn't promote the band fully or properly!!! How much great music, throughout the decades, has been lost to the ether because the "suits" (who don't know SHIT about music) deemed it as NOT economically viable to the music label?
The dan reed network were pioneers. they crafted hard rock/funk and soul into pop with hooks galore. The musicianship was unparalleled. this is a fuzzy recording so please dont judge it by this. the albums are another story. Beautifully produced and the song writing was crazy. at the time they were called "bon jovi meets prince". oasis on the other hand made two brilliant albums. ran out of ideas and have two of the biggest morons fronting them.
I like them. Bon Jovi too. Bon Jovi stole the show from many artists at this time, '88. No politics, just out done by the genius that is the Jovi! If you really listen to this tune ... after all they were on the same label..Ploygram...it's expensive to promote an act...Again not BS politics...true and honest politics.

Kicker is it could still easily go over and make millions today. That's the beauty of Dan's work. It just... fits. The sound is simply amazing.
DRN is what you get when you cross Bonjovi with Prince. Simply awesome I have all of their stuff!
