JAMESTOWN, N.Y. -- The Jamestown Lounge Co., founded 95 years ago, will close next week because of financial problems.
John Conti, who operated the firm with a group of businessmen, Friday said the firm will close Monday because banks had refused to grant the company additional financing.
Jamestown Lounge, which at one time employed 100 workers but recently employed 35 people, has been operating under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Act since March 1982.
'In the last year, we have pared our operation to the bone,' said Conti, who along with the other businessmen operated the firm for more than a year. 'We were operating very efficiently and felt we had a future.'
Conti said the furniture plant and its equipment will go on the auction block next week.
The firm was founded in 1888 to manufacture upholstered furniture.
