To be honest, no. The original series was perfect and had a proper ending. Without Peter Sallis, Michael Hordern and Richard Pearson, it could never be the same.
Watching the first 2/3 of this trailer, I was thinking 'Wind in the Willows meets Watership Down?' But then Attenborough's voice kicks in, and this trailer becomes something else altogether that is very reflective on our times. Not just the UK, but globally.
@@Sentientmatter8 they weren’t claymation figures, they were movable models each one. Watch the behind the scenes documentary on Cosgrove Hall, it shows you how they made the figures and sets.
This is so inspiring. Shocking that we have become one of the most nature depleted places on the planet especially as we as a nation are animal lovers. We as humans finally release this planet isn’t just our planet. We need to quit the growth of the major cities and leave some room for our natural landscape. Me and my Mum have just signed up for volunteering at The Wildlife Trust!
I was so excited seeing the first part, thinking, "Yay!! Wes Anderson made one of my favorite books into stop animation"....and then I got a knot in my stomach seeing the rest...
This is exactly why politicians should give more of a shit about what’s happening to our environment and especially our wildlife than about fighting amongst themselves and getting themselves ridiculously bogged-down in this omnishambles that is Brexit!
When I saw the title and the thumbnail I got really excited because I absolutely love the wind in the willows and to see it remade with modern styled stop motion really made me get nostalgic because of the 1983 Cosgrove hall one but when it turned out to be just an advert for wildlife support, I was disappointed. Not that there is anything wrong with support of wildlife, I'm all for that, it's just I thought it was one thing then it turned out to be another.
EXACTLY!!!!! Although, the image of Mole scraping to get out while his hole is blocked by the road above is VERY sad. In a way I'm almost glad that that isn't a part of any movie because that's not what the author originally intended Wind in the Willows to be!
Me too. The book is beautifully written, and this looks like any modern cartoon type thing. Where is the prose? "The Mole never heard a word he was saying. Absorbed in the new life he was entering upon, intoxicated with the sparkle, the ripple, the scents and the sounds and the sunlight, he trailed a paw in the water and dreamed long waking dreams. The Water Rat, like the good little fellow he was, sculled steadily on and forebore to disturb him."
Dude, you’re making art and trying to save the planet at the same time over here. That really was beautiful though. I was disappointed to find out it wasn’t going to be an actual film but I also really appreciate what you’re doing here. Good on y’all.
Not gonna lie, I thought this was an actual movie trailer, but it turned out to be a "Save Nature" PSA. But a very well made PSA. I would still love see this get adapted into a stop motion movie in the near future. :)
I was really hoping this was going to be a movie. I appreciate it being an advert for Wildlife trusts. Its a good idea. But man, I so wish this was a movie and I love the original book.
...wait... so this isnt a legit movie. (Not to be bashful or anything, i got the message very well and the way on how they did it was bloody astounding}
There are three full length movies from 1983, 1995 and 2006 sharing this title as well as a short series. I'm not sure where others are getting the idea that this is not a trailer made from clips of the actual film but they are quite mistaken.
As strange as it may sound, 'bashful' = socially shy; timid. It doesn't have to do with bashing things. The 'bash' here comes from the obsolete word 'abashed' which means 'embarrassed'.
I don't like the style of animation. The frame rate frustrates my eyes and doesn't flow very well. Cosgrove Hall was a little slow, but that sort of suited the style of it. It was like Last of the Summer Wine and Darling Buds of May. It reflected a gentile slow paced life. I get that this in someway probably highlights that modern day is not that way, but I prefer to be lost in the old as an escape rather than jolted in to the present.
I literally think I could have done a better Mr Toad. Can't beat the original and David Jason. A genuinely magic part of my childhood. It's the only way!
Seeing this destruction first hand in my village of Harworth in S. Yorkshire, as the urban sprawl spreads, wiping out every field and open land we had. It's happening all over in England. Heart breaking.
Of all the characters I've never seen a wild weasle, mole, water vole in the UK...the only badgers are the dead ones on the side of the roads. At least I've seen a toad....
There's plenty of things we can do to help though :) like letting a tiny little bit of your garden grow wild. By putting up a bee/insect house or cutting a small hole in your fence so hedgehogs can access next doors garden instead of trying to cross the road. I agree though, I want to volunteer at the wildlife trust badger vaccination program because I've never seen a living badger too.
Awe-inspiring. WOW!👍👍👍 Make a DVD and ask Netflix to show it, and you could sell the production perhaps Disney would help in the making and funding... Just a thought.
You might not believe me, but last night I had a dream and in that dream I heard the old Wind in the Willows theme song by Ralph McTell. I just searched for it and found this video which was released today. What a strange coincidence. In my dream I also found an old illustrated book I had when I was a child which focused on the death of Mr. Badger by old age. It was one of the first books I read which introduced me to death, along with St-Exupéry's "The Little Prince".
They've had the original models this whole time?? They need to reshoot the 1983 Wind in the Willows with modern cameras! Heck keep the original audio, I just can't watch the 240p version without my eyes hurting.

Same. Adore the Cosgrove Hall version!
I’d totally watch a new Wind In The Willows movie

How was this not picked up to be a real film? Incredible!
It's a great add for a great cause. But I still wish we would get a Wind in the Willows movie like teased in the beginning. Looked wonderfull!
Maybe if they had actually remade a stop motion film like this it would help younger generations to care more
Yeah :(

The 1983 Cosgrove Hall production is the one to watch. It is simply sublime and will never be beaten.
We really must eradicate this idea that economic growth is the most important thing.
Sadly, it's not just economic growth. It's species-wide. Our choice to have an economic underpinning as our reason to be will likely undo us.
