You dont need to leave out history, its all our history. Its your channel. You always honor the homes and places you visit. Your terms and commentary doesnt change the beauty of historical places or history. We should strive to respect and appreciate our own ability to watch and discern.
I really appreciate that! I always hope it’s evident in my videos that I just want to document these old incredible forgotten places before they are gone! @@urbanexploringwithkappy1773 That is one well built structure. The students must have enjoyed learning there especially when it was the newest school in the area. Based on the pile of gypsum in the first floor hall and the studs in the nearby classroom, the modification of what must have been the girl's bathroom with a tub, and the oven upstairs it appears someone may have lived there for a time. That small room on the second floor was possibly the principal's office. The front portico is a thing of envy that would be a welcomed addition to many homes today. That building would make a great regional museum, but that would require a tidy sum at this point. Another excellent video and for me an instant favorite.

What in the world are you blabbering about? Lots of horrible things happened in the past. My husband’s relatives perished in Buchenwald in a camp. But I appreciate the history and the maintenance of the site as a rememberance.

They're a bunch of rabid fools who always throw the baby along with the bath water. This building just needs a new owner who would convert it into a house full of love. It could be anybody... Yes, even an Afro American, provided he harbors dreams instead of spite!
Those classroom closets were actually called coatrooms, sometimes cloakroom, you'd hang your coat up, leave your lunch, and maybe boots, depending on the weather. Growing up in Fairbanks AK, in the 1960s, us girls also had to leave our pants in there, we could only wear them outside, when it was below zero. Yep, I'm that old. Lol. Great video, thanks!
We also called them cloakrooms in our old elementary school in Baltimore, which was built in the 1920s. I went there in the 1950s and early '60s, so I'm right up there with you.

Unlike brick homes of today, where they build the house and then construct a layer of bricks as a form of "siding", the brick walls were constructed first (most of the time, 2 - 3 brick thick), and then the inside was finished out. Much sturdier than modern construction
My grandpa, Dad, older brother and l all went to a school that looks like that one. Guys would slide down the banisters, get caught and smacked, or fall off, and cry. There was a tub in the bathroom in the kindergarten classroom for kids who had "accidents" or fell in mud. It was to be torn down, and a modern elementary built, but the community said no. It was saved, and elementary children are still going there today.Of course, the lead paint and asbestos were removed! Thanks, Kappy!
Wish i could visit my old grade school. It was demolished years ago. I can still see it in my mind, but it would be fun to walk through the halls once again before I'm gone.

When I was twelve years old my parents moved us in an old school house and we renovated it into a three bedroom home. The stage was renovated so it was the master bedroom. It was made to be really nice inside.
I was raised in a very small town in Texas. The elementary school was built around 1920. The school still stands. But they use it now as the police department.
Kappy, this school looked so much like the school I attended in the early 50’s. It was first through the fourth grade and was a segregated all white school. Has the same kind of seats you showed. I lived on a mill village and the school was built by the man that owned the mills. He built it for the mill village children to attend.
This is so cool - way back when I and my friend found an old mining town in the Cascades. Wasn't on the map. The buildings were more than half gone but we found the old school. It still had the desks, wood stove and old chalkboards, even some old chalk pieces. The outhouse was in the back, no toilets. In the main classroom was a big pile of leaves, branches and vines. It stunk! When we left to check out some of the other buildings we met "The Bear". We got in our truck and said goodbye to that little place. Never went back to check out the mines that we could see as we were heading out. Guess the old school made a great bear condo...Thank you for the video Kappy!!

The one with the inset shelves does appear to be that, and the adjoining room with the oven (probably added after the school was closed) may have been for art class based on the two large tables, one having a recessed top.

This is a great video! I started school in 1960 and so much in this building reminds me of the school I attended-the large windows, the chalkboards(ours were green and the chalk was a light yellow), the transoms, and the cloakrooms. The teachers used to call our coats, scarves, jackets, and hats ‘wraps.’ I loved watching this video. As always, I appreciate your kindness as well as your knowledge. I was talking to someone a couple days ago and found our that she loves watching urban exploration videos, too. I told her about what an excellent job you do, gave her your channel’s info, and suggested that she “Check it out!”

Hi Kappy. I love explorations of old schools . They are so cool. It almost seems to me that room upstairs with the brick walls could have been some sort of small gymnasium that they used for recess and the like if the kids couldn't play outside. We have an old elementary school in our town that a developer made into apartments . There are also a couple of rural schools near by that they did the same thing. Built better than anything new today that's for sure. Looks like you've got some interesting explorations to come.
I’m really stumped about those rooms with bars on the windows! As another viewer said I think the upstairs room with all the shelving would be a library. And the small room in the middle front of the upstairs could have been an office. Such a lovely building! Thank you Kappy!
Love the old schools! And I have never seen water tanks on a toilet like those 2 , crazy. Those wooden chairs you saw with the fold down seats were just like the ones we had in the Jr High I went to. It was originally the high school.

Those are "Vogal" Frost-Free toilets. They were designed to be able to withstand subfreezing temperatures without sustaining any damage. Someone should salvage them.
I don't know if they were manufactured before the 1920s, but it's possible they are as old as the school. They were a very new concept at the time. Indoor plumbing was just becoming more affordable to the masses. Flushing toilets were around as early as the 1870s, but were only found in wealthy homes.@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773

Great old building, the water tanks for those toilets sure were different than any ive ever seen. Must have been a very nice school, nice big classrooms and lots of natural light. Things that a lot of modern schools dont have. Thr previews look amazing. Thanks, Kappy

Uh no, that building is not salvageable. It’s obvious it’s having foundation issues, and would be too expensive to possibly fix. I’m actually glad to see this building fall in. It has too much dark history.
@@Ronin.Samurai From what I can tell the foundation and floor systems are independent from each other. The outer walls/building facade would be caving in too if that were the case but the windows, doors, and roof line remain straight and true. The foundation and footings themselves would extend a few feet below grade, but the rotting away flooring is a foot above grade as seen at 5:20. That building is far from falling in on itself Another place in the video that also confirms what I say is at 7:25 where you can see the floor separating from the buildings wall. the floor is falling in but the windows are all true. Dark history you say? What's so evil about children getting an education? This dark statement in your reply is only your silly imagination going wild.
@@jimdent351 sorry but you are completely wrong. The foundation and floor are not separated/independent of each other. They are clearly one unit. I’m no house expert, but I can tell when a foundation and the floors are separated or not. As for the dark history, if you actually did your homework, and listened to Kappy, you would know this school had segregation, which meant innocent children of a different skin color were separated from those who were white. If you knew anything about segregated schools, you would know black children had the bare minimum, such as out of date school books, broken chairs and lights, little to no heating/air conditioning, school buildings falling apart, etc, while white children had everything and had plenty of money. If you know anything about American history, you would know the horrendous crap people of different skin color had to go through, and still go through today. I’m a fellow white person, and I’m ashamed and embarrassed over the evil things we did to innocent people just because people of different skin color didn’t look and act like us white people. That school, along with the old plantations of the south, and statues condoning the evil American people of the past all need to be taken down, and completely eradicated. The evil crap us white people of America did belong in history books, that’s it.
@@Ronin.Samurai The only dark past that building has is the lack of lumens coming from it's light fixtures. It's a school for crying out loud where they taught reading, writing, and arithmetic. He says in the video that it operated during a dark time in history. What does that even mean? Is it because it operated when Europe was at war, or is it because they only taught white children? So because only white children attended class here that the buildings history is dark? Right now there's a war in Ukraine, and Israel is at war too. Does that mean we should tear down every operational school in America right now? You're comment is ludicrous IMO.

I went to a school similar to this but it has two wings. One on each side of the main entrance. It too was built in 1915, the same year my father was born. Here's something interesting I'm throwing in for kicks, my father's father, my grandfather was born in 1880... My mother also went to that school (Sanders School, Blue Island Illinois), all of my siblings went there too. Sadly, like this school it was abandoned because of foundation problems that were too expensive to fix. This is such a cool flash back to my childhood. Another awesome adventure Kappy! I love seeing these old buildings. If there are any old electrical panels (fuse boxes) and other electrical fixtures, I would love to see close up shots of those as well as plumbing fixtures.
My guess is first upstairs room was a gym looks like a basketball back board on wall. Next might be auditorium then small one office. Then kitchen for lunches last with shelves the library. I agree this would have made a great house if caught in time. Love your explores, videos look forward to them
So unusual to see the tin type on the ceilings in a school building…this was once a very nice school! Would make this into a home . Love the old toilets..would restore them as well. You can almost hear the children who once went to school here and the teachers giving the assignments to the children to work on..the chalk writing on chalkboards…..amazing!

I remember goin to ole school houses with wooden floors. The bathroom sure was old style, first time seeing one like that. Kinda reminded me of the old gas tanks use be,at service stations..it would definitely be awesome to turn into a bed and breakfast or nice home. Funny how folks with plenty money don't care bout stuff like this, but ones who can't afford it, wanna do something with ole houses n save em.. thanks for sharin a amazin video.. always look forward to em..

That old school reminds me a lot of the old school that is here in West Feliciana parish. It was built about the same time. Luckily it is being maintained and longtime residents of the parish are raising money and getting grants to restore it. I think it was used as a school until 1952. As a child we would go in it to play when we could sneak in. I remember being very impressed with its beauty even as a child. Thanks for the video!

What a great video! If you had deep pockets this would make a lovely big home. The light from the large windows is fantastic. The only deterrent would be the road noise and the train going by. I would prefer the sounds of the stream and the birds.

Those toilets were interesting. How did they flush? Must have been a chain or something. That’s so cool that they are still intact. And the tank above the sink-must have been for water? That was state of the art when they built that. So beautiful! Love the ceilings and architecture. And you always have the history of the explore.
My childhood elementary school (southern VA) was originally the high school when built in 1930s as part of the WPA. My father in law graduated from there. As seniors they were required to drive the school buses! It then became an elementary school and I attended in the late 70s. Them our son went there in the late 90s. Had those huge windows and lots of tile work. A gorgeous original auditorium. Happily it was added to and remains in use today as a county public school. It now has air conditioning off course. The beautiful old library was moved. But it’s still place full of wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing. ❤
I remember going to an elementary school like this. Those seats that are all in a row and connected were in the auditorium or the gathering room. This is back when teachers sent you to the principles office to be spanked, yes, spanked if you were bad in school. Life was different back then. Thanks for sharing and have a great day

I suspect that all the paint has lead in it. The cost of removing it, I'm guessing, would be a real problem.

I was trying to picture the kids sitting in those old chairs an the bathroom toilets were definitely something I've never seen, it truly is so sad to let such a wonderful piece of history fall to the ground but thanks to you we all got to be a little part of it during this video, always enjoy all the beautiful places you take us to, also this was too kool for school ❤

Hi Kappy. I love explorations of old schools . They are so cool. It almost seems to me that room upstairs with the brick walls could have been some sort of small gymnasium that they used for recess and the like if the kids couldn't play outside. We have an old elementary school in our town that a developer made into apartments . There are also a couple of rural schools near by that they did the same thing. Built better than anything new today that's for sure. Looks like you've got some interesting explorations to come.
I’m really stumped about those rooms with bars on the windows! As another viewer said I think the upstairs room with all the shelving would be a library. And the small room in the middle front of the upstairs could have been an office. Such a lovely building!

Those wooden chairs you saw with the fold down seats were just like the ones we had in the Jr High I went to. It was originally the high school.

Those are "Vogal" Frost-Free toilets. They were designed to be able to withstand subfreezing temperatures without sustaining any damage. Someone should salvage them.

I don't know if they were manufactured before the 1920s, but it's possible they are as old as the school. They were a very new concept at the time. Indoor plumbing was just becoming more affordable to the masses. Flushing toilets were around as early as the 1870s, but were only found in wealthy homes.@@urbanexploringwithkappy1773

Uh no, that building is not salvageable. It’s obvious it’s having foundation issues, and would be too expensive to possibly fix. I’m actually glad to see this building fall in. It has too much dark history.
@@Ronin.Samurai From what I can tell the foundation and floor systems are independent from each other. The outer walls/building facade would be caving in too if that were the case but the windows, doors, and roof line remain straight and true. The foundation and footings themselves would extend a few feet below grade, but the rotting away flooring is a foot above grade as seen at 5:20. That building is far from falling in on itself
Another place in the video that also confirms what I say is at 7:25 where you can see the floor separating from the buildings wall. the floor is falling in but the windows are all true. Dark history you say? What's so evil about children getting an education? This dark statement in your reply is only your silly imagination going wild.
@@jimdent351 sorry but you are completely wrong. The foundation and floor are not separated/independent of each other. They are clearly one unit. I’m no house expert, but I can tell when a foundation and the floors are separated or not. As for the dark history, if you actually did your homework, and listened to Kappy, you would know this school had segregation, which meant innocent children of a different skin color were separated from those who were white. If you knew anything about segregated schools, you would know black children had the bare minimum, such as out of date school books, broken chairs and lights, little to no heating/air conditioning, school buildings falling apart, etc, while white children had everything and had plenty of money. If you know anything about American history, you would know the horrendous crap people of different skin color had to go through, and still go through today. I’m a fellow white person, and I’m ashamed and embarrassed over the evil things we did to innocent people just because people of different skin color didn’t look and act like us white people. That school, along with the old plantations of the south, and statues condoning the evil American people of the past all need to be taken down, and completely eradicated. The evil crap us white people of America did belong in history books, that’s it.
@@Ronin.Samurai The only dark past that building has is the lack of lumens coming from it's light fixtures. It's a school for crying out loud where they taught reading, writing, and arithmetic. He says in the video that it operated during a dark time in history. What does that even mean? Is it because it operated when Europe was at war, or is it because they only taught white children? So because only white children attended class here that the buildings history is dark?
Right now there's a war in Ukraine, and Israel is at war too. Does that mean we should tear down every operational school in America right now? You're comment is ludicrous IMO.

I went to a school similar to this but it has two wings. One on each side of the main entrance. It too was built in 1915, the same year my father was born. Here's something interesting I'm throwing in for kicks, my father's father, my grandfather was born in 1880... My mother also went to that school (Sanders School, Blue Island Illinois), all of my siblings went there too. Sadly, like this school it was abandoned because of foundation problems that were too expensive to fix. This is such a cool flash back to my childhood. Another awesome adventure Kappy! I love seeing these old buildings. If there are any old electrical panels (fuse boxes) and other electrical fixtures, I would love to see close up shots of those as well as plumbing fixtures.

My guess is first upstairs room was a gym looks like a basketball back board on wall. Next might be auditorium then small one office. Then kitchen for lunches last with shelves the library. I agree this would have made a great house if caught in time. Love your explores, videos look forward to them

So unusual to see the tin type on the ceilings in a school building…this was once a very nice school! Would make this into a home . Love the old toilets..would restore them as well. I remember goin to ole school houses with wooden floors. The bathroom sure was old style, first time seeing one like that. Kinda reminded me of the old gas tanks use be,at service stations..it would definitely be awesome to turn into a bed and breakfast or nice home. Funny how folks with plenty money don't care bout stuff like this, but ones who can't afford it, wanna do something with ole houses n save em.. thanks for sharin a amazin video.. always look forward to em..

That old school reminds me a lot of the old school that is here in West Feliciana parish. It was built about the same time. Luckily it is being maintained and longtime residents of the parish are raising money and getting grants to restore it. I think it was used as a school until 1952.
As a child we would go in it to play when we could sneak in. I remember being very impressed with its beauty even as a child.

Once again a classic video!! Now they make replicas if tin celings fir house renovations, people like that victorian look. Very easy to imagine that school house. in any season,si charming,should have beey renovated and made a historic spot and maybe a school house again, awesome find!!💯👍🏼

What a great video! If you had deep pockets this would make a lovely big home. The light from the large windows is fantastic. The only deterrent would be the road noise and the train going by. I would prefer the sounds of the stream and the birds.

Those toilets were interesting. How did they flush? Must have been a chain or something. That’s so cool that they are still intact. And the tank above the sink-must have been for water? That was state of the art when they built that. So beautiful! Love the ceilings and architecture. And you always have the history of the explore.

My childhood elementary school (southern VA) was originally the high school when built in 1930s as part of the WPA. My father in law graduated from there. As seniors they were required to drive the school buses! It then became an elementary school and I attended in the late 70s. Them our son went there in the late 90s. Had those huge windows and lots of tile work. A gorgeous original auditorium. Happily it was added to and remains in use today as a county public school. It now has air conditioning off course. The beautiful old library was moved. But it’s still place full of wonderful memories. Thanks for sharing. ❤

I remember going to an elementary school like this. Those seats that are all in a row and connected were in the auditorium or the gathering room. This is back when teachers sent you to the principles office to be spanked, yes, spanked if you were bad in school. Life was different back then. Thanks for sharing and have a great day
