Wow. This took me back to my formative years. My mom used to decorate our living area almost the same way, but she was not as good as my aunt in Bale Ha-Manenzhe in the Limpopo valley of South Africa. This is disappearing fast. Thanks for the post. As a budding filmmaker, I am tempted to archive.some of the homes that still decorate this way. Well done!!
Am from Nigeria, I have not seen any traditional huts built this elaborate. It is beautiful and colorful. It shows what can be done with traditional architecture.
I am lost for words, this is beyond exquisite, I wonder why we have trained our minds to call this architecture primitive? I am so tired of the cement boxes we build these days that suck the life out of us because of population and all. African must go back to the basics, this is where real beauty is.
I love the beautiful homes but I must confess I come back for that beautiful tune at the beginning ," Ayikho einye ndawo enje ngekhaya" I wish there was a link to the music. I don't know how to get this music.
I dream of a large round house with separate spaces for sleeping, eating, socialising, a large yellow front door, six glass windows, on two or three floor levels, large staircase connects the levels and flat round roof. Would they build this architecture in Ghana, I wonder?
so how did our ancestors survive before colonialism and machinery/you probably mean industrialisation. life in Africa only began with machinery or what???
I just watched this for the second time. These women are so talented!!!! The designs are absolutely stunning. By the way, I saw a bucket of water in a couple of homes, and it made me wonder how far the well is. Was the bike the first prize? Do the women know how to ride a bike?
iloirtimusiikista hello, the well can be a few kms away. The plough is the first prize. The young women can ride bikes, specially girls, but it is mainly men
@@zouero Thanks for your reply. I'm curious: How difficult would it be to get a well to this village, so that the women (I assume) would not have to walk several kms to get water? (I'm exhausted just thinking about it.)
@@iloirtimusiikista even when the well is at the homestead we still do buckets so that we don't have to be constantly running back and forth to the well😊
@@natashamakiwa8657 Of course, I didn't think of that! If they don't get running water any time soon, it would be good if they could have large buckets with wheels. I've seen them. Stay healthy!

They speak isiNdebele. The language is very similar to isiZulu because most of the Ndebeles in Zimbabwe originated from KZN, they left the area with Mzilikazi in the 1800s and settled in Zimbabwe.
Hello, where are you? In Zimbabwe, you would have to provide the materials, such as home made bricks, poles and thatch. Plus the labour, for the building, then for the deco
@@zouero I'm planning on building one in Somalia. I don't know how to get the materials but i'm sure the people are going to be more than happy to point me to the right direction. I just need a estimate average price to build it. That would be labour and materials. Just a rough estimate. Thank you for responding.
@@KhalidAlirunsheeg in Zimbabwe, it could be around 600/700 dollars minimum. I have no idea of the prices in Somalia. But I wish you all the best in your project
So why are rural Afrikans killing themselves to to raise meager funds just to construct small piddly conventional brick houses when they can build palaces and castles from material available to them.. 🤔
It is not about building the most extraordinary cathedral in over 100 years with thousands of people but about making the most humble home into a piece of true Art using the surrounding materials, with 1 person working hard during a month, knowing that this will last only until the rains wash it away. A 1000 years ago, around Winchester, most builders lived in poor houses which have not survived the time, but I doubt they were very appealing. Ugly constructions with the excuse of poverty are common features of this world, in all countries. Let's hope that some will take example to the people of Zimbabwe and make their home an artwork, no matter what, to make this world more beautiful, also for the pleasure of people like you who might come in this part of the world.
Originally Ndebeles migrated from south Africa under Mzilikazi. They were known as the Khumalos. They are the Ngunis so most of their culture is similar to the Zulu culture
The way God intended us to live on His Earth. Proudly Zimbabwean.❤
The Ndebele are very very clean and tidy too as well as being creative
Being clean and tidy is in the genes of black South Africans so the Ndebele over there are following their South African roots
Africa is my continent,Zimbabwe is my fav country,i hope to visit one day
