Sandi, you are a joy to watch with the lambs. So sweet and caring. When you talk to them I get the feeling they know what you're saying. When I started watching you I had no clue about sheep but now I am learning. Thank you for explaining what's going on with the ewes and their babies . I especially enjoy the little tails wiggling as they nurse. Also the jumping around. Thank you again for being a great person. I believe that every one that watch you feels like you are our friend.

MissMellyification yes, in the past when Sandi has X’d a ewe’s back for behavioral reasons it’s always for lamb abuse. She doesn’t want the headache again or to keep any of its line that might inherit the behavior.

3 fav parts of this video:
    1) Most fav is watching yr pup just randomly pop up in the background.
    2) The cuteness of mom pawing at her new baby. I could just heard her saying "Hey.. Get up!".
    3) When you were helping the mom feed the babies. Another lamb blocked the camera like "What? There's nothing to see here..."
    Love your vids!

From personal experience, rubbing or scratching sensations get to the brain faster than pain does. So maybe she is experiencing some kind of pain or other sensitivity in the udder region and you rubbing/scratching her back is what she is feeling and can basically ignore the other input.

Thank you for teaching us how to be successful at day one with an animal to its final day at your farm. Thank you for being an outlet for me...I've been lost for awhile and you've helped me in ways you'd never know...Thank you. I was born and raised on a dairy farm and when my parents sold out I kinda lost something that made me happy...but watching how you operate has started giving me the courage to possibly start a boar goat operation. This will 'dirty' shearing, the shearing guy came early and didn't have time to run everybody thru the handling maze. Only about 1/4 of the ewes got their delousing treatment. Shearer had cancellation. Wethers and new rams will not get thru 'maze' or anyone else until afterwards. GRRRR. Because we sell our wool ourselves it means extra work for us. We will rent deep freezer and put the fleeces in it for 20days. More costs.

Sandi, I thought of something to help with your problem momma. Using about 7 or 8 feet of 3/4 inch soft cotton lead rope. Loop the rope in a figure 8 pattern over the ewes back knot it at her chest so that the rope holds up the ewes hock/leg off the ground. That should train your ewe to feed her lambs on her own. It won't hurt her to hop on three legs for a day or two. To keep the rope on snugger, you might need a bungee cord hooked to the rope under her belly. Here's hoping it works. Love what you do, and admire your hardworking family.

Oh man kicking mom looks forward to her back rubs. Its frustrating that its a process with that ewe, but what a bond you guys are getting. She knows you will help her feel comfortable with her babies❤. That little tan baby looks like a calf, should call him/her Moo lol. Thank you for showing the births love all aspects of seeing how to keep your flock going and healthy. As always great job and good day!❤🐑

Lady think u forgot an important reason that I watch ur video. If I just wanted to see ewes lambing, there r a lot to pick from and I did watch some, but I found U, U r the main reason for me. U remind me of my mother and like that very much. Another reason is I like ur brain, it works very well, I find u very smart. U r also one of the few who will go the extra mile and there r days u show that cost but u don't quit. Strength in spades lady, be proud. Good luck on the lambing lady. Take care and keep that smile coming.

I'm so glad that you are not getting as involved in the birth process unless absolutely necessary. With the last group, it seemed like you were in a awful rush for the lambs to be born and helped them way to much. You can see the joy in your face this time with the babies where it wasn't there last time. I think it may of had something to do with all the stress of quarantine and you were so anxious. Much calmer this time around. Birth is a natural thing and they end up knowing what to do....mostly. lol.

She just struggles when she loses a lamb feeling like if i would've helped it probably wouldn't have happened. Therefore I think she was overly helping to avoid that. She just needs to find that good happy middle of helping to avoid stillborns and knowing when not to help. Man I'd love working with the babies but I dont think I could do her job 😄

So awesome! Love the video and glad you found a way around the lambing part. Love the babies! I did notice a trend, the last group finished for Mothers day and this group is on point for Fathers day... luck right? I am so proud of you to find a holistic approach for feeding the lambs.... I should have thought of that. I am sorry. Lucky that your lambs love you and you bring them comfort. I am assuming she is a new mom #4 that is.... And hey, there are people moms who hate natural feeding, so why would sheep be any different... right? Hugs from Halifax

Why do the ewes lick like crazy while they're in labor? Do you think it's because of the pain or gearing up to lick lambs after they're born?

In dogs when a mother won’t accept her babies, especially in feeding them, we give a several doses of calcium. Usually by the second dose, the female dog is accepting them. Can you try that?

    • @elizabethhalt2096
      @elizabethhalt2096 4 ปีที่แล้ว

If it was twin lamb (calcium deficiency) she'd know x they basically lay down, unmoving, even to eat, and look like they've gone blind. It usually happens in the last stages of their pregnancy if it will.

I wish I had a warm wooly lamb to snuggle with - we had a blizzard today, and my house has no insulation in the walls and ceilings - the raccoons ate all of it last year. So I'm freezing all of my unmentionable bits off until it's time to go to bed under all the blankets and quilts.
