1973 Somewhere in that crowd is a teenage me. The first time I went to see the CNY celebrations. Going there confirmed my lifelong love of all things Chinese.
Just took me down memory lane. I remember Chinatown back then like that with the big block of flats in the background. I also remember the tramp with the news paper directing cars for parking in Gerard Street lol. There's also a good documentary on Gerard Street' s knocking shops in the 1700's
Yes, I seem to recall a tall building in the background. Never knew what it was, but it just looked dark and spooky to me, although I have no idea whether we're referring to the same building. Had some good memories as a small kid going to Chinatown in the 1970s. Back then, most people spoke Cantonese. And there was a small cinema too (underground?). And back then, traffic was nowhere near as bad.
