Cops can only use less lethal force if another officer is available to provide lethal force in the event the less lethal force fails. If they can't use both simultaneously they MUST choose to use lethal force to ensure their use of force doesn't provoke the purp into injuring others or damaging property on the scene.

The issue is here in America, people who refer to BLM refer to it as a movement and explicitly not an organization. They recognize there is an organization called BLM, but insist that it isn't representative and was created after the movement started.
So when people are referring to BLM they are probably most of the time referring to people who consider themselves advocates of the "BLM movement" and not the organization.
As you know, the name "Black Lives Matter" was already designed to confuse, and this is another layer of confusion regarding the name. Many believe it's intentional. Many prefer to treat any and all of them as one entity to be mocked and ridiculed.

What annoys the piss out of me is the number of people making bullshit claims that “She only had a knife!”
There is no ONLY. The Tueller Rule is predicated on the concept that a person with a knife is MORE DANGEROUS in close quarters than the person with a gun. A gun only fires in ONE DIRECTION and has a finite amount of ammunition. A knife can cut at any direction and never runs out of ammunition.
The rule of thumb when it comes to knife defense is: you are going to get cut. Expect it. Be prepared that it’s going to get bloody.
A Krav Maga black belt from the IDF stopped a terrorist in Jerusalem in 2013. This guy fought knife defense to the Mossad; he was cut so badly he had to retire from teaching.
    Knives are DANGEROUS.

Psychologist here, it's basically just very basic training to calm someone down who's in an acute state of distress or point someone towards mental health services if they need help/support. It does not train a person at all to manage it themselves with cognitive-behavioural interventions or verbal/physical de-escalation (I've had years of training both at university and on the job to do this safely and effectively as a psychologist, compared to one day's training for mental health first aiders!). I personally (and professionally) consider 'mental health first aid' a waste of time and resources, but I imagine that some would inevitably disagree.
EDIT: here's a summary: "Mental Health First Aiders learn the 5-step Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE): assess for risk of suicide or harm; listen nonjudgmentally; give reassurance and information; encourage appropriate professional help; and encourage self-help and other support strategies." As I say, it's a very basic and minor intervention that's only really suitable in specific conditions, compared to the sort of stuff I'm used to.

FYI in the US the legal definition of the word "unarmed" specifically only pertains to firearms. It doesn't pertain to knives, swords, machetes, or any blade weapons - even chainsaws.
So when the media reports that police ended an "unarmed black man/woman," 9 times out of 10 they were armed with a blade. The media just knows they can get away with this piece of IegaI technicality.
I guarantee you some news outlets are already covering _this_ incident as "...unarmed black woman."

    • @nyarlat2609
      @nyarlat2609 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

It's a technicality, but not a legal one. A blade still counts as lethal force, which constitutes a lethal response. This is why you may consider one with a drawn blade to be armed for the purpose of self defense.

If they want a real victim to make noise about, they can learn about Sonya Massey.
Problem is the officer is already in jail.

Maybe if these people would stop flipping out on other people, they wouldn't get shot. Sonya Massey assaulted that cop, and while you can make a call about use of force, you can also point out that she shouldn't have been flinging boiling water at people.
      Just saying.

I commented about 2 years ago that the people who demanded cops have bodycame would regret it because they seemed to havw forgotten that THEY'RE on camera as well. It goes both ways but they didn't want to believe it or ACCEPT it but hey. I said my bit, people screeched, I'm just watching their crap fall down.

They never accepted that most of the time when they get shot, it's because they were doing something that risked somebody else's life.
They are now learning accountability the hard way.

To be fair, whenever anyone's life is being memorialised, if the manner of their death is "negative" (eg suicide), it usually isn't mentioned

TH-cam doesn't seem to want people to talk about Sasha Edwards. In fact, the entire media-- both the mainstream legacy and online gonzo mob-- seem to have entirely forgotten Edwards. Either that or there's another more sinister reason for the deliberate blanket avoidance.

I do but everyone lost interest in her when it turned out the shooter wasn't white. Probably not a very nice woman seeing as she was at some druggy all-night party leaving her two young children at home on a school night.
