Because in one street, there are the standard homes, discounter stores, kiosks, kebab shops, and things like that. Then, literally right in the next street, there are all the posh restaurants, expensive shops with security guards, and high-class cars parked in front of houses that are little mansions. Their money, even a fraction of it, could prevent another incident like Grenfell from happening again.

The first week I moved to London from the states, I was staying at a hotel near grenfell. That night was horrific. But the combination of British “stiff upper lip” attitudes, and my own guilt in feeling that expressing the trauma of seeing something like that feels like pulling focus from the actual victims…. I just didn’t say anything. Same as when my neighbor murdered his twin 3 year old girls, and I kept my mouth shut about how traumatized I was seeing that… they weren’t my girls, and I didn’t know them well. But if I smell pennies, I break down into sobs (blood smells like pennies, and there was a ton). I’m finally starting to realize that it’s ok to acknowledge the trauma of witnessing these things. You don’t have to know the person to be haunted by their screams as they burn to death. To be broken hearted for their families. To relive that helpless feeling of watching people, knowing they were going to die, and unable to do anything about it. Don’t just suffer in silence over it ❤
As someone who lives in social housing the contempt shown to me by the council is staggering. I'm disabled and need adaptations. Been waiting for a move to an accessible property for 3 years with no end in sight. I want to go back to the village I lived in as a private tenant but can't afford to be kicked out when the landlord decides they want to sell because of the money that would go into making a home suitable. I've been told that it's an affluent area for affluent people by the disability services manager of the social housing association. Nobody seems at all concerned that he's trying to keep poor cripples out of his neighbourhood, or that I can't do basic things like bathe or cook or go outside. All completely legal. It's awesome.

Russell is bang on, as ever, and it's all very well to get roused, and collectively indignant - but unless the people of Britain get off their arses and vote, their "leaders" will continue to take the piss.
Sadly, as Russell pointed out, MPs from all parties have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. In many respects voting only legitimises and perpetuates the iniquities of the system. Arguably the only choice that the British people have is the colour of the rosette that their preferred candidate wears.
Love This Video. It's Tragically True. I am made to feel bad living in a 3 bedroom flat albeit that the 2 smaller bedrooms are no bigger than a Box Room, very little space, but because my children had to be cared for elsewhere, I can't move out and downsize and give it up to a family in need because I looked on my council website housing options pages and I'd end up in a High Rise for the Elderly paying more rent for the Care & Communal Living facilities that I don't want or want to pay for or worse still stuck in a High Rise in the roughest rat invested areas that I avoid at all costs. So Where's the safe clean damp mould mice and rat free triple glazed insulated sound proofed accommodation??

I live in Halifax/Dartmouth Nova Scotia Canada and we have the same problem. My teenage son and I lived in a bit of a run-down place in Windsor Nova Scotia 2012. The neighbours were great but I could never understand why he and I were always sick getting asthma. My lungs are now s**t, among other health problems. We found out what had caused our problems a couple of months later when they were renovating the apartment and found black mould in all the walls from the floor to the ceiling. We moved that year to Halifax/Dartmouth area and after several years of moving after being flooded out, frozen out and various other problems, I found the place I now live in and he shares an apartment with his girlfriend. I am a pensioner on a fixed income and live in a building without wheelchair access while now having to use a walker for assisted movement. I broke my neck at work in 1991 and after several surgeries and being told I would never work full time again, my employer and Worker's Compensation put me on permanent long time term disability. My wife left me and then offered to let me have custody of our youngest, my son, as she could no longer control him, he has ADHD. He had his moments over the years but turned into a nice thoughtful person who comes to help his old dad every couple of weeks. Anyway, somebody I knew was moving out of a building about 100 yards away, he was paying about the same as I am and told me about the apartment. The building had wheelchair access and an elevator so no more trying to get my walker up the stairs. Rents have gone crazy here, but there used to be a policy of allowing seniors to exchange an apartment in a building with access at the same rent, my rent is fixed at 10% per annum increases due to being a senior and having been in the apartment for over 5 years. When I enquired about an apartment swap I was told that although I am only paying $700 monthly as is my friend, if I move into the friend's apartment my rent would be $1,450 a month. With rents increasing from doubled to quadrupled, the only way I will be able to move is into a Nursing Home, which I don't want. So Canada has the same problems as the UK with housing even though the Government ignores the rental problem but is giving all kinds of help to people buying a home. 🤔🤔😒😒 th-cam.com/users/sgaming/emoji/7ff574f2/emoji_u1f612.png
i was just thinking even though this video story is old i bet there has been countless more times this has happnened and recently there was a fire in Grenfell looking building
I wonder how many properties in the UK are vacant and owned by foreign investors. It's a huge problem here in Canada as well as the US. In the US there are 30 vacant properties for every homeless person. In Canada it's roughly 5.5 per homeless person. So why the hell do we have homeless people?

an accurate indictment of government policies, delivered with humour and passion! As much as I admire HM the Queen, I do think that the Royal Family should be contributing to the upkeep of Buckingham Palace, and other "royal" residences. I enjoy opera, but surely the audience ticket-fees should cover the cost of staging one; and it certainly should not come at the expense of safety for others.
Do you fancy watching this video again? no mention of a Company short changing safety features and giving £5 million to an Opera Company. It was the Council not a Company.
The Irony is... those audiences applauding in this video, will in one way or another, still vote for those MPs or political party that hinders the need for more affordable housing! I have experienced Planning Applications for sale of Land to build more houses being opposed/declined by residents/councilors/MPs due to personal preference such as obstruction of scenery, influx of lower social-class and its negative impact (crime, devalued area/house price), noise pollution etc. Just saying...

It's unconscionable that one of the most basic of human requirements - shelter from the elements - is such a hideously expensive thing to obtain. This resounded very hard with me. Our president in Ghana is building a "national cathedral" to the glory of God when schools, healthcare, social housing, roads etc are virtually nonexistent. The cost? $350m+ I hear tell. We live in a sick world.🤬
Until country leaders and big business owners live like 'average' people there always will be a class system. Because apparently they deserve to have more money than everyone else
God will provide,as long as it's not his own money...........

Yay Russell Howard joining the ranks of the peoples voice, Russel Brand has been leading the charge WE NEED MORE LIKE THEM!
Russell Brand? The "gentleman" who with Jonathan Ross harrassed the Fawlty Towers actor who played Manuel about his daughter? THAT Russell?
He's now "virtuous"?
Russell Brand? The "gentleman" who with Jonathan Ross harrassed the Fawlty Towers actor who played Manuel about his daughter? THAT Russell?

Done.
O i didnt know this...well....then this makes him an even more beautiful and a wonderful person than he already is
Holy shit no way! I just went from 100% respect for Rus to 1000%. An inspiration for sure
So he's doing more than Boris. I'd vote for him.
Where can i find info on the flars hes building?
Thank You for sharing that information; it increases exponentially my admiration for this unique comedian with his brilliantly delivered analyses of contemporary issues. There is passion Russell's mockery, but given that he truly is "walking the talk" he has every right to wax eloquent on the failings of elected officials who actually are sworn into "office" as custodians of the public good.
A truly great person. He is spot on about MP's .
WELL SAID! VERY REFRESHING TO HEAR SOME ONE WELL KNOWN STANDING UP FOR THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T GET ANYTHING LIKE ENOUGH REPRESENTATION! THOSE PEOPLE NEED JUSTICE,AND YOU ARE THE SORT OF GUY WHO COULD WIN IT FOR THEM!
a pioneer of social change and a comedian, absolutely brilliant
When comedians can’t find the joke, it’s not funny anymore.
I felt that emotion Russ, we all do 💋
“You can’t change the meaning of words just to suit you!” I know right? That would be like calling a war a special military operation or something...
🇺🇦
I believe we had a "Conflict" in the Falklands. Certainly looked like a war to the guys that died or were burned when the ships were hit.
@@andyangyh We did declare war, so it was a conflict against an invading enemy.
@Top Lobster one look at trans neurology says that trans people are valid, read a paper or something please. Jamiedodger (a TH-camr and a doctor) has a whole video about it.
Oh Russell you are a wonderful human being, thanks for making me not feel so alone.
What a beautiful rant! Russell is Brilliant and right.🌹
loved Russell's show for a long time. This man talks so much sense, why isn't he running for PM, I'd vote for him
The first week I moved to London from the states, I was staying at a hotel near grenfell.
I pay rent but their attitude is like that of a bad charity where i should be glad of whatever they deem i deserve. Ran by middle class scum, the person currently running the department(they all change jobs every couple of years so no one is ever responsuble)git her degree in the history of art!!!!. They see themselves as charity workers not landlords
You pay rent from where? Government handouts? Dont make me laugh
No job? Go out and work for a living, then you wouldnt be living in social housing.
Beggers cant be chosers
I live in social housing.
Been missing fire doors in my building since before grenfell, and I'm still missing them.
Try renting from Clarion clowns….they are the worst housing association on earth 🤡
@@mydogeatspukeit is absolutely disgusting that the council, who should be representing all of us equally, cannot provide you and many others I'm sure with the correct accessibility in your own homes. You are entitled to it as a human and for them to continue to disregard and outright ignore that, is so awful.
You are such a breath of fresh air , thank you
Great delivery of an important subject. Well done Russell! 👍🏾
Russ looked like he was struggling not to tear up near the end 💛🙏
Russel is a comedian but also a voice for the people. Fair play mate.
I have so much respect for Russell Howard
Thank you, Russel, I have always admired you, how you stand up for the average Brit who is not even born with a plastic spoon in their mouth (let alone a silver one) .. you are such a decent, adorable human being. So many could learn from you ! x
That is a very touching piece of social commentary.
I couldn't put it much clearer than that. I have came from the bottom of the pit and still trying to grind it out for my family rather than asking the government for help as they just don't care. I want to start a charity up where we can help a family better their way of living in all ways as there is so much money out there for us all to live a happy life
RIP to the victims of Grenfell. My condolences to their families and friends 🙏
Russell would theoretically make a great PM. He has everyone included together but unfortunately I don't think he could stand their poncy bullshit. Nice idea though
0:40 Now those are robust bootstraps!
Brilliant and never out of date!
Amazingly well said I'm glad Russell is acting as a voice for me and all of you who see this and have been so low you had a bench or a park that you called your home when in reality it was a tree with just the perfect amount of shade under it to call your spot ....
This guy is absolutely on point. What a shame this message is only out there as part of an entertainment programme. This needs spreading far and wide - it's time for our supposed leaders to hold themselves to account.
I actually cheered at the end of this, physically cheered, at a video. I am never normally one to support celebs using their platform to talk about political views but the emotion russel had at the end was incredible and i say GOOD.ON .YOU.MATE.
love russell howard as much i did of Sean Lock god rest his soul ,
1984 is here! George Orwell talked about messing with language but did we listen. love and light
Russell Howard what a geezer!!!! Never a truer word than in jest! 😁✊👍👍👍👍👊✌️🌹.
Love this video so much. U can see and hear ur passion and emotion on this topic . Well done Russell on this 1 especially. All ur videos are spot on. But this 1 I felt ❤️
Absolutely amazing. You should be a leader
Thankyou for sharing your beautiful information. Even though it was funny but I pray that the message gets through.
We vote one prick out we put another in
I love how Russell can make a British accent sound even more British
Look up Slough borough council bankrupt on BBC, they spent 28k on indoor plants, even a poor worker said he had to water them himself as the 20k a year gardener to come in and water had to be let go.... prime example of people in slight power to most powerful in the country are just greedy. Johnson does not care, he might try to sound like he does but he does not, as long as himself and his mate are sorted that's all that matters. There all the same though, tell lies to keep themselves in high paid positions.
Don’t you just LOVE Russell Howard?❤️❤️❤️
spot on bud!
Nice one bruvva.! Very powerful.
We need you as our new PM. Your absolutely spot on
I live in Halifax/Dartmouth Nova Scotia Canada and we have the same problem.

I've never heard him sound so emotional at the end
Love you Russel don't ever stop ✌️

Russell for President
Wow this is brilliant, fair play to Russell for calling this out. Grenfell absolutely should never have happened.
This guy is a legend...
Absolutely spot on !
That sounded more like a Diane Abbot lecture than comedy.
It feels like nothing will ever change :/
i was just thinking even though this video story is old i bet there has been countless more times this has happnened and recently there was a fire in Grenfell looking building
Been missing fire doors in my flat since before Grenfell, and I'm still missing them to this day.
What an absolutely amazing man
Love you Russell!!!!
I wonder how many properties in the UK are vacant and owned by foreign investors. It's a huge problem here in Canada as well as the US. In the US there are 30 vacant properties for every homeless person. In Canada it's roughly 5.5 per homeless person.
So why the hell do we have homeless people?
Russell your a legend
Praise Sir Russell
You do know that the US congress voted to count a serving of pizza with tomato sauce as a vegetable, right?
Maybe they know the world is about to end very soon so aren't bothered with the threat of a revolution
@@anarcho-communist11 They don't "know" that the world is about to end. They hope to, by their actions, precipitate the end of the world by trying to force their imaginary God's hand. It's idiocy from top to bottom.

I would vote for Russell
Something to remember for next elections when voting rather than getting divided on petty issues 👍
1:50 the best reaction XD
Well said.
an accurate indictment of government policies, delivered with humour and passion! As much as I admire HM the Queen, I do think that the Royal Family should be contributing to the upkeep of Buckingham Palace, and other "royal" residences. I am truly appalled to hear that the Company that short-changed the safety-features of Grenfel Tower gave $5 million to an Opera Company ...
I love this guy.
Lol xx love it🤣👍💜🧡 fqd up fact frappé..with full feudal furrowed brow....guys...we got this xx
Wonderful. Really wonderful
And with that attitude I would definitely vote for you Russ, the next PM
The Irony is... those audiences applauding in this video, will in one way or another, still vote for those MPs or political party that hinders the need for more affordable housing!
I have experienced Planning Applications for sale of Land to build more houses being opposed/declined by residents/councilors/MPs due to personal preference such as obstruction of scenery, influx of lower social-class and its negative impact (crime, devalued area/house price), noise pollution etc.
Just saying...
Anytime government gets involved in housing, prices go up.
Nice insight👍💙
Well said Russell

Top man 👍
Haven't even watched this yet but for years I thought it's hilarious yet fucked up how nothing has been sorted out, almost like it was swept under the carpet
Great job.

Well said Russ
Russell for Prime Minister
It's unconscionable that one of the most basic of human requirements - shelter from the elements - is such a hideously expensive thing to obtain. I live in Australia, and the cost of housing and accommodation here is not far behind Britain for being prohibitively expensive, and completely out of reach for a great many people. When I hear about my state's government blowing obscene amounts of money on a new sports stadium or some other relatively non-essential piece of frivolity, I just want to scream.
Bang on!
Russell is just a decent human.
